(The Women)

121

اُولٰۤىِٕكَ مَأْوٰىهُمْ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَلَا يَجِدُوْنَ عَنْهَا مَحِيْصًا ١٢١

ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those -
mawāhum
مَأْوَىٰهُمْ
their abode
jahannamu
جَهَنَّمُ
(is) Hell
walā
وَلَا
and not
yajidūna
يَجِدُونَ
they will find
ʿanhā
عَنْهَا
from it
maḥīṣan
مَحِيصًا
any escape
The refuge of those will be Hell, and they will not find from it an escape. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 121)
Tafsir
122

وَالَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنّٰتٍ تَجْرِيْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُ خٰلِدِيْنَ فِيْهَآ اَبَدًاۗ وَعْدَ اللّٰهِ حَقًّا ۗوَمَنْ اَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللّٰهِ قِيْلًا ١٢٢

wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
And those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe[d]
waʿamilū
وَعَمِلُوا۟
and do
l-ṣāliḥāti
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
[the] righteous deeds
sanud'khiluhum
سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ
We will admit them
jannātin
جَنَّٰتٍ
(in) Gardens
tajrī
تَجْرِى
flow
min
مِن
from
taḥtihā
تَحْتِهَا
underneath it
l-anhāru
ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ
the rivers
khālidīna
خَٰلِدِينَ
will abide
fīhā
فِيهَآ
in it
abadan
أَبَدًاۖ
forever
waʿda
وَعْدَ
A Promise
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
ḥaqqan
حَقًّاۚ
(in) truth
waman
وَمَنْ
and who
aṣdaqu
أَصْدَقُ
(is) truer
mina
مِنَ
than
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
qīlan
قِيلًا
(in) statement?
But the ones who believe and do righteous deeds – We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. [It is] the promise of Allah, [which is] truth, and who is more truthful than Allah in statement. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 122)
Tafsir
123

لَيْسَ بِاَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَآ اَمَانِيِّ اَهْلِ الْكِتٰبِ ۗ مَنْ يَّعْمَلْ سُوْۤءًا يُّجْزَ بِهٖۙ وَلَا يَجِدْ لَهٗ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ وَلِيًّا وَّلَا نَصِيْرًا ١٢٣

laysa
لَّيْسَ
Not
bi-amāniyyikum
بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ
by your desire
walā
وَلَآ
and not
amāniyyi
أَمَانِىِّ
(by the) desire
ahli
أَهْلِ
(of the) People
l-kitābi
ٱلْكِتَٰبِۗ
(of) the Book
man
مَن
Whoever
yaʿmal
يَعْمَلْ
does
sūan
سُوٓءًا
evil
yuj'za
يُجْزَ
will be recompensed
bihi
بِهِۦ
for it
walā
وَلَا
and not
yajid
يَجِدْ
he will find
lahu
لَهُۥ
for him
min
مِن
from
dūni
دُونِ
besides
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
waliyyan
وَلِيًّا
any protector
walā
وَلَا
and not
naṣīran
نَصِيرًا
any helper
It [i.e., Paradise] is not [obtained] by your wishful thinking nor by that of the People of the Scripture. Whoever does a wrong will be recompensed for it, and he will not find besides Allah a protector or a helper. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 123)
Tafsir
124

وَمَنْ يَّعْمَلْ مِنَ الصّٰلِحٰتِ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ اَوْ اُنْثٰى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ يَدْخُلُوْنَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلَا يُظْلَمُوْنَ نَقِيْرًا ١٢٤

waman
وَمَن
And whoever
yaʿmal
يَعْمَلْ
does
mina
مِنَ
[of]
l-ṣāliḥāti
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
[the] righteous deeds
min
مِن
from
dhakarin
ذَكَرٍ
(the) male
aw
أَوْ
or
unthā
أُنثَىٰ
female
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
and he
mu'minun
مُؤْمِنٌ
(is) a believer
fa-ulāika
فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
then those
yadkhulūna
يَدْخُلُونَ
will enter
l-janata
ٱلْجَنَّةَ
Paradise
walā
وَلَا
and not
yuẓ'lamūna
يُظْلَمُونَ
they will be wronged
naqīran
نَقِيرًا
(even as much as) the speck on a date-seed
And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer – those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged, [even as much as] the speck on a date seed. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 124)
Tafsir
125

وَمَنْ اَحْسَنُ دِيْنًا مِّمَّنْ اَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهٗ لِلّٰهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ وَّاتَّبَعَ مِلَّةَ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ حَنِيْفًا ۗوَاتَّخَذَ اللّٰهُ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ خَلِيْلًا ١٢٥

waman
وَمَنْ
And who
aḥsanu
أَحْسَنُ
(is) better
dīnan
دِينًا
(in) religion
mimman
مِّمَّنْ
than (one) who
aslama
أَسْلَمَ
submits
wajhahu
وَجْهَهُۥ
his face
lillahi
لِلَّهِ
to Allah
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
and he
muḥ'sinun
مُحْسِنٌ
(is) a good-doer
wa-ittabaʿa
وَٱتَّبَعَ
and follows
millata
مِلَّةَ
(the) religion
ib'rāhīma
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
(of) Ibrahim
ḥanīfan
حَنِيفًاۗ
(the) upright?
wa-ittakhadha
وَٱتَّخَذَ
And was taken
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
(by) Allah
ib'rāhīma
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
Ibrahim
khalīlan
خَلِيلًا
(as) a friend
And who is better in religion than one who submits himself to Allah while being a doer of good and follows the religion of Abraham, inclining toward truth? And Allah took Abraham as an intimate friend. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 125)
Tafsir
126

وَلِلّٰهِ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِى الْاَرْضِۗ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُّحِيْطًا ࣖ ١٢٦

walillahi
وَلِلَّهِ
And for Allah
مَا
(is) what
فِى
(is) in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wamā
وَمَا
and what
فِى
(is) in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِۚ
the earth
wakāna
وَكَانَ
and is
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
bikulli
بِكُلِّ
of every
shayin
شَىْءٍ
thing
muḥīṭan
مُّحِيطًا
All-Encompassing
And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And ever is Allah, of all things, encompassing. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 126)
Tafsir
127

وَيَسْتَفْتُوْنَكَ فِى النِّسَاۤءِۗ قُلِ اللّٰهُ يُفْتِيْكُمْ فِيْهِنَّ ۙوَمَا يُتْلٰى عَلَيْكُمْ فِى الْكِتٰبِ فِيْ يَتٰمَى النِّسَاۤءِ الّٰتِيْ لَا تُؤْتُوْنَهُنَّ مَا كُتِبَ لَهُنَّ وَتَرْغَبُوْنَ اَنْ تَنْكِحُوْهُنَّ وَالْمُسْتَضْعَفِيْنَ مِنَ الْوِلْدَانِۙ وَاَنْ تَقُوْمُوْا لِلْيَتٰمٰى بِالْقِسْطِ ۗوَمَا تَفْعَلُوْا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ بِهٖ عَلِيْمًا ١٢٧

wayastaftūnaka
وَيَسْتَفْتُونَكَ
And they seek your ruling
فِى
concerning
l-nisāi
ٱلنِّسَآءِۖ
the women
quli
قُلِ
Say
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
"Allah
yuf'tīkum
يُفْتِيكُمْ
gives you the ruling
fīhinna
فِيهِنَّ
about them
wamā
وَمَا
and what
yut'lā
يُتْلَىٰ
is recited
ʿalaykum
عَلَيْكُمْ
to you
فِى
in
l-kitābi
ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
the Book
فِى
concerning
yatāmā
يَتَٰمَى
orphans
l-nisāi
ٱلنِّسَآءِ
[the] girls
allātī
ٱلَّٰتِى
(to) whom
لَا
not
tu'tūnahunna
تُؤْتُونَهُنَّ
(do) you give them
مَا
what
kutiba
كُتِبَ
is ordained
lahunna
لَهُنَّ
for them
watarghabūna
وَتَرْغَبُونَ
and you desire
an
أَن
to
tankiḥūhunna
تَنكِحُوهُنَّ
marry them
wal-mus'taḍʿafīna
وَٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ
and the ones who are weak
mina
مِنَ
of
l-wil'dāni
ٱلْوِلْدَٰنِ
the children
wa-an
وَأَن
and to
taqūmū
تَقُومُوا۟
stand
lil'yatāmā
لِلْيَتَٰمَىٰ
for orphans
bil-qis'ṭi
بِٱلْقِسْطِۚ
with justice
wamā
وَمَا
And whatever
tafʿalū
تَفْعَلُوا۟
you do
min
مِنْ
of
khayrin
خَيْرٍ
good
fa-inna
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
kāna
كَانَ
is
bihi
بِهِۦ
about it
ʿalīman
عَلِيمًا
All-Knowing
And they request from you, [O Muhammad], a [legal] ruling concerning women. Say, "Allah gives you a ruling about them and [about] what has been recited to you in the Book concerning the orphan girls to whom you do not give what is decreed for them – and [yet] you desire to marry them – and concerning the oppressed among children and that you maintain for orphans [their rights] in justice." And whatever you do of good – indeed, Allah is ever Knowing of it. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 127)
Tafsir
128

وَاِنِ امْرَاَةٌ خَافَتْ مِنْۢ بَعْلِهَا نُشُوْزًا اَوْ اِعْرَاضًا فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَآ اَنْ يُّصْلِحَا بَيْنَهُمَا صُلْحًا ۗوَالصُّلْحُ خَيْرٌ ۗوَاُحْضِرَتِ الْاَنْفُسُ الشُّحَّۗ وَاِنْ تُحْسِنُوْا وَتَتَّقُوْا فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ خَبِيْرًا ١٢٨

wa-ini
وَإِنِ
And if
im'ra-atun
ٱمْرَأَةٌ
a woman
khāfat
خَافَتْ
fears
min
مِنۢ
from
baʿlihā
بَعْلِهَا
her husband
nushūzan
نُشُوزًا
ill-conduct
aw
أَوْ
or
iʿ'rāḍan
إِعْرَاضًا
desertion
falā
فَلَا
then (there is) no
junāḥa
جُنَاحَ
sin
ʿalayhimā
عَلَيْهِمَآ
on both of them
an
أَن
that
yuṣ'liḥā
يُصْلِحَا
they make terms of peace
baynahumā
بَيْنَهُمَا
between themselves -
ṣul'ḥan
صُلْحًاۚ
a reconciliation
wal-ṣul'ḥu
وَٱلصُّلْحُ
and [the] reconciliation
khayrun
خَيْرٌۗ
(is) best
wa-uḥ'ḍirati
وَأُحْضِرَتِ
And are swayed
l-anfusu
ٱلْأَنفُسُ
the souls
l-shuḥa
ٱلشُّحَّۚ
(by) greed
wa-in
وَإِن
But if
tuḥ'sinū
تُحْسِنُوا۟
you do good
watattaqū
وَتَتَّقُوا۟
and fear (Allah)
fa-inna
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
kāna
كَانَ
is
bimā
بِمَا
of what
taʿmalūna
تَعْمَلُونَ
you do
khabīran
خَبِيرًا
All-Aware
And if a woman fears from her husband contempt or evasion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them – and settlement is best. And present in [human] souls is stinginess. But if you do good and fear Allah – then indeed Allah is ever, of what you do, Aware. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 128)
Tafsir
129

وَلَنْ تَسْتَطِيْعُوْٓا اَنْ تَعْدِلُوْا بَيْنَ النِّسَاۤءِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُمْ فَلَا تَمِيْلُوْا كُلَّ الْمَيْلِ فَتَذَرُوْهَا كَالْمُعَلَّقَةِ ۗوَاِنْ تُصْلِحُوْا وَتَتَّقُوْا فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ كَانَ غَفُوْرًا رَّحِيْمًا ١٢٩

walan
وَلَن
And never
tastaṭīʿū
تَسْتَطِيعُوٓا۟
will you be able
an
أَن
to
taʿdilū
تَعْدِلُوا۟
deal justly
bayna
بَيْنَ
between
l-nisāi
ٱلنِّسَآءِ
[the] women
walaw
وَلَوْ
even if
ḥaraṣtum
حَرَصْتُمْۖ
you desired
falā
فَلَا
but (do) not
tamīlū
تَمِيلُوا۟
incline
kulla
كُلَّ
(with) all
l-mayli
ٱلْمَيْلِ
the inclination
fatadharūhā
فَتَذَرُوهَا
and leave her (the other)
kal-muʿalaqati
كَٱلْمُعَلَّقَةِۚ
like the suspended one
wa-in
وَإِن
And if
tuṣ'liḥū
تُصْلِحُوا۟
you reconcile
watattaqū
وَتَتَّقُوا۟
and fear (Allah)
fa-inna
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
kāna
كَانَ
is
ghafūran
غَفُورًا
Oft-Forgiving
raḥīman
رَّحِيمًا
Most Merciful
And you will never be able to be equal [in feeling] between wives, even if you should strive [to do so]. So do not incline completely [toward one] and leave another hanging. And if you amend [your affairs] and fear Allah – then indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 129)
Tafsir
130

وَاِنْ يَّتَفَرَّقَا يُغْنِ اللّٰهُ كُلًّا مِّنْ سَعَتِهٖۗ وَكَانَ اللّٰهُ وَاسِعًا حَكِيْمًا ١٣٠

wa-in
وَإِن
And if
yatafarraqā
يَتَفَرَّقَا
they separate
yugh'ni
يُغْنِ
will be enriched
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
(by) Allah
kullan
كُلًّا
each (of them)
min
مِّن
from
saʿatihi
سَعَتِهِۦۚ
His abundance
wakāna
وَكَانَ
and is
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
wāsiʿan
وَٰسِعًا
All-Encompassing
ḥakīman
حَكِيمًا
All-Wise
But if they separate [by divorce], Allah will enrich each [of them] from His abundance. And ever is Allah Encompassing and Wise. (QS. [4] An-Nisa: 130)
