قَالُوْا وَاَقْبَلُوْا عَلَيْهِمْ مَّاذَا تَفْقِدُوْنَ ٧١
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- wa-aqbalū
- وَأَقْبَلُوا۟
- turning towards
- ʿalayhim
- عَلَيْهِم
- them
- mādhā
- مَّاذَا
- "What (is it)
- tafqidūna
- تَفْقِدُونَ
- you miss?"
They said while approaching them, "What is it you are missing?" (QS. [12] Yusuf: 71)Tafsir
قَالُوْا نَفْقِدُ صُوَاعَ الْمَلِكِ وَلِمَنْ جَاۤءَ بِهٖ حِمْلُ بَعِيْرٍ وَّاَنَا۠ بِهٖ زَعِيْمٌ ٧٢
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- nafqidu
- نَفْقِدُ
- "We are missing
- ṣuwāʿa
- صُوَاعَ
- (the) cup
- l-maliki
- ٱلْمَلِكِ
- (of) the king
- waliman
- وَلِمَن
- And for (one) who
- jāa
- جَآءَ
- brings
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- it
- ḥim'lu
- حِمْلُ
- (is) a load
- baʿīrin
- بَعِيرٍ
- (of) a camel
- wa-anā
- وَأَنَا۠
- and I
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- for it
- zaʿīmun
- زَعِيمٌ
- (is) responsible"
They said, "We are missing the measure of the king. And for he who produces it is [the reward of] a camel's load, and I am responsible for it." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 72)Tafsir
قَالُوْا تَاللّٰهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ مَّا جِئْنَا لِنُفْسِدَ فِى الْاَرْضِ وَمَا كُنَّا سَارِقِيْنَ ٧٣
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- tal-lahi
- تَٱللَّهِ
- "By Allah
- laqad
- لَقَدْ
- certainly
- ʿalim'tum
- عَلِمْتُم
- you know
- mā
- مَّا
- not
- ji'nā
- جِئْنَا
- we came
- linuf'sida
- لِنُفْسِدَ
- that we cause corruption
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-arḍi
- ٱلْأَرْضِ
- the land
- wamā
- وَمَا
- and not
- kunnā
- كُنَّا
- we are
- sāriqīna
- سَٰرِقِينَ
- thieves"
They said, "By Allah, you have certainly known that we did not come to cause corruption in the land, and we have not been thieves." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 73)Tafsir
قَالُوْا فَمَا جَزَاۤؤُهٗٓ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ كٰذِبِيْنَ ٧٤
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- famā
- فَمَا
- "Then what
- jazāuhu
- جَزَٰٓؤُهُۥٓ
- (will be the) recompense (of) it
- in
- إِن
- if
- kuntum
- كُنتُمْ
- you are
- kādhibīna
- كَٰذِبِينَ
- liars"
They [the accusers] said, "Then what would be its recompense if you should be liars?" (QS. [12] Yusuf: 74)Tafsir
قَالُوْا جَزَاۤؤُهٗ مَنْ وُّجِدَ فِيْ رَحْلِهٖ فَهُوَ جَزَاۤؤُهٗ ۗ كَذٰلِكَ نَجْزِى الظّٰلِمِيْنَ ٧٥

- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- jazāuhu
- جَزَٰٓؤُهُۥ
- "Its recompense
- man
- مَن
- (is that one) who
- wujida
- وُجِدَ
- it is found
- fī
- فِى
- in
- raḥlihi
- رَحْلِهِۦ
- his bag
- fahuwa
- فَهُوَ
- then he
- jazāuhu
- جَزَٰٓؤُهُۥۚ
- (will be) his recompense
- kadhālika
- كَذَٰلِكَ
- Thus
- najzī
- نَجْزِى
- (do) we recompense
- l-ẓālimīna
- ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
- the wrongdoers"
[The brothers] said, "Its recompense is that he in whose bag it is found – he [himself] will be its recompense. Thus do we recompense the wrongdoers." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 75)Tafsir
فَبَدَاَ بِاَوْعِيَتِهِمْ قَبْلَ وِعَاۤءِ اَخِيْهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَخْرَجَهَا مِنْ وِّعَاۤءِ اَخِيْهِۗ كَذٰلِكَ كِدْنَا لِيُوْسُفَۗ مَا كَانَ لِيَأْخُذَ اَخَاهُ فِيْ دِيْنِ الْمَلِكِ اِلَّآ اَنْ يَّشَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ ۗنَرْفَعُ دَرَجَاتٍ مَّنْ نَّشَاۤءُۗ وَفَوْقَ كُلِّ ذِيْ عِلْمٍ عَلِيْمٌ ٧٦
- fabada-a
- فَبَدَأَ
- So he began
- bi-awʿiyatihim
- بِأَوْعِيَتِهِمْ
- with their bags
- qabla
- قَبْلَ
- before
- wiʿāi
- وِعَآءِ
- (the) bag
- akhīhi
- أَخِيهِ
- (of) his brother
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- then
- is'takhrajahā
- ٱسْتَخْرَجَهَا
- he brought it out
- min
- مِن
- from
- wiʿāi
- وِعَآءِ
- (the) bag
- akhīhi
- أَخِيهِۚ
- (of) his brother
- kadhālika
- كَذَٰلِكَ
- Thus
- kid'nā
- كِدْنَا
- (did) We plan
- liyūsufa
- لِيُوسُفَۖ
- for Yusuf
- mā
- مَا
- He could not
- kāna
- كَانَ
- He could not
- liyakhudha
- لِيَأْخُذَ
- take
- akhāhu
- أَخَاهُ
- his brother
- fī
- فِى
- by
- dīni
- دِينِ
- the law
- l-maliki
- ٱلْمَلِكِ
- (of) the king
- illā
- إِلَّآ
- except
- an
- أَن
- that
- yashāa
- يَشَآءَ
- Allah willed
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُۚ
- Allah willed
- narfaʿu
- نَرْفَعُ
- We raise
- darajātin
- دَرَجَٰتٍ
- (in) degrees
- man
- مَّن
- whom
- nashāu
- نَّشَآءُۗ
- We will
- wafawqa
- وَفَوْقَ
- but over
- kulli
- كُلِّ
- every
- dhī
- ذِى
- possessor
- ʿil'min
- عِلْمٍ
- (of) knowledge
- ʿalīmun
- عَلِيمٌ
- (is) the All-Knower
So he began [the search] with their bags before the bag of his brother; then he extracted it from the bag of his brother. Thus did We plan for Joseph. He could not have taken his brother within the religion [i.e., law] of the king except that Allah willed. We raise in degrees whom We will, but over every possessor of knowledge is one [more] knowing. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 76)Tafsir
۞ قَالُوْٓا اِنْ يَّسْرِقْ فَقَدْ سَرَقَ اَخٌ لَّهٗ مِنْ قَبْلُۚ فَاَسَرَّهَا يُوْسُفُ فِيْ نَفْسِهٖ وَلَمْ يُبْدِهَا لَهُمْۚ قَالَ اَنْتُمْ شَرٌّ مَّكَانًا ۚوَاللّٰهُ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَصِفُوْنَ ٧٧

- قَالُوٓا۟
- They said
- in
- إِن
- "If
- yasriq
- يَسْرِقْ
- he steals
- faqad
- فَقَدْ
- then verily
- saraqa
- سَرَقَ
- stole
- akhun
- أَخٌ
- a brother
- lahu
- لَّهُۥ
- of his
- min
- مِن
- before"
- qablu
- قَبْلُۚ
- before"
- fa-asarrahā
- فَأَسَرَّهَا
- But Yusuf kept it secret

- يُوسُفُ
- But Yusuf kept it secret

- فِى
- within
- nafsihi
- نَفْسِهِۦ
- himself
- walam
- وَلَمْ
- and (did) not
- yub'dihā
- يُبْدِهَا
- reveal it

- لَهُمْۚ
- to them
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- antum
- أَنتُمْ
- "You
- sharrun
- شَرٌّ
- (are the) worse
- makānan
- مَّكَانًاۖ
- (in) position
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- and Allah
- aʿlamu
- أَعْلَمُ
- knows best
- bimā
- بِمَا
- of what
- taṣifūna
- تَصِفُونَ
- you describe"
They said, "If he steals – a brother of his has stolen before." But Joseph kept it within himself and did not reveal it to them. He said, "You are worse in position, and Allah is most knowing of what you describe." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 77)Tafsir
قَالُوْا يٰٓاَيُّهَا الْعَزِيْزُ اِنَّ لَهٗٓ اَبًا شَيْخًا كَبِيْرًا فَخُذْ اَحَدَنَا مَكَانَهٗ ۚاِنَّا نَرٰىكَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِيْنَ ٧٨

- قَالُوا۟
- They said
- yāayyuhā
- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- "O
- l-ʿazīzu
- ٱلْعَزِيزُ
- Aziz!
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- lahu
- لَهُۥٓ
- he has
- aban
- أَبًا
- a father
- shaykhan
- شَيْخًا
- old
- kabīran
- كَبِيرًا
- [great]
- fakhudh
- فَخُذْ
- so take
- aḥadanā
- أَحَدَنَا
- one of us
- makānahu
- مَكَانَهُۥٓۖ
- (in) his place
- innā
- إِنَّا
- Indeed we
- narāka
- نَرَىٰكَ
- [we] see you
- mina
- مِنَ
- of
- l-muḥ'sinīna
- ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
- the good-doers"
They said, "O Azeez, indeed he has a father [who is] an old man, so take one of us in place of him. Indeed, we see you as a doer of good." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 78)Tafsir
قَالَ مَعَاذَ اللّٰهِ اَنْ نَّأْخُذَ اِلَّا مَنْ وَّجَدْنَا مَتَاعَنَا عِنْدَهٗٓ ۙاِنَّآ اِذًا لَّظٰلِمُوْنَ ࣖ ٧٩
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- maʿādha
- مَعَاذَ
- "Allah forbid
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- "Allah forbid
- an
- أَن
- that
- nakhudha
- نَّأْخُذَ
- we take
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- man
- مَن
- (one) who
- wajadnā
- وَجَدْنَا
- we found
- matāʿanā
- مَتَٰعَنَا
- our possession
- ʿindahu
- عِندَهُۥٓ
- with him
- innā
- إِنَّآ
- Indeed, we
- idhan
- إِذًا
- then
- laẓālimūna
- لَّظَٰلِمُونَ
- surely (would be) wrongdoers"
He said, "[I seek] the refuge of Allah [to prevent] that we take except him with whom we found our possession. Indeed, we would then be unjust." (QS. [12] Yusuf: 79)Tafsir
فَلَمَّا اسْتَا۟يْـَٔسُوْا مِنْهُ خَلَصُوْا نَجِيًّاۗ قَالَ كَبِيْرُهُمْ اَلَمْ تَعْلَمُوْٓا اَنَّ اَبَاكُمْ قَدْ اَخَذَ عَلَيْكُمْ مَّوْثِقًا مِّنَ اللّٰهِ وَمِنْ قَبْلُ مَا فَرَّطْتُّمْ فِيْ يُوْسُفَ فَلَنْ اَبْرَحَ الْاَرْضَ حَتّٰى يَأْذَنَ لِيْٓ اَبِيْٓ اَوْ يَحْكُمَ اللّٰهُ لِيْۚ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الْحٰكِمِيْنَ ٨٠
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- So when
- is'tayasū
- ٱسْتَيْـَٔسُوا۟
- they despaired
- min'hu
- مِنْهُ
- of him
- khalaṣū
- خَلَصُوا۟
- they secluded themselves
- najiyyan
- نَجِيًّاۖ
- (in) private consultation
- qāla
- قَالَ
- Said
- kabīruhum
- كَبِيرُهُمْ
- the eldest among them
- alam
- أَلَمْ
- "Do not
- taʿlamū
- تَعْلَمُوٓا۟
- you know
- anna
- أَنَّ
- that
- abākum
- أَبَاكُمْ
- your father
- qad
- قَدْ
- has taken
- akhadha
- أَخَذَ
- has taken
- ʿalaykum
- عَلَيْكُم
- upon you
- mawthiqan
- مَّوْثِقًا
- a promise
- mina
- مِّنَ
- by
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- wamin
- وَمِن
- and before
- qablu
- قَبْلُ
- and before
- mā
- مَا
- that
- farraṭtum
- فَرَّطتُمْ
- you failed
- fī
- فِى
- concerning
- yūsufa
- يُوسُفَۖ
- Yusuf?
- falan
- فَلَنْ
- So never
- abraḥa
- أَبْرَحَ
- will I leave
- l-arḍa
- ٱلْأَرْضَ
- the land
- ḥattā
- حَتَّىٰ
- until
- yadhana
- يَأْذَنَ
- permits
- lī
- لِىٓ
- me
- abī
- أَبِىٓ
- my father
- aw
- أَوْ
- or
- yaḥkuma
- يَحْكُمَ
- Allah decides
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah decides
- lī
- لِىۖ
- for me
- wahuwa
- وَهُوَ
- and He
- khayru
- خَيْرُ
- (is) the Best
- l-ḥākimīna
- ٱلْحَٰكِمِينَ
- (of) the judges
So when they had despaired of him, they secluded themselves in private consultation. The eldest of them said, "Do you not know that your father has taken upon you an oath by Allah and [that] before you failed in [your duty to] Joseph? So I will never leave [this] land until my father permits me or Allah decides for me, and He is the best of judges. (QS. [12] Yusuf: 80)Tafsir
