Surah At-Tariq - Word by Word

(The Nightcommer)

bismillaahirrahmaanirrahiim
1

وَالسَّمَاۤءِ وَالطَّارِقِۙ ١

wal-samāi
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ
By the sky
wal-ṭāriqi
وَٱلطَّارِقِ
and the night comer
By the sky and the night comer . (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 1)
Tafsir
2

وَمَآ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا الطَّارِقُۙ ٢

wamā
وَمَآ
And what
adrāka
أَدْرَىٰكَ
can make you know
مَا
what
l-ṭāriqu
ٱلطَّارِقُ
the night comer (is)?
And what can make you know what is the night comer? (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 2)

النَّجْمُ الثَّاقِبُۙ ٣

al-najmu
ٱلنَّجْمُ
(It is) the star
l-thāqibu
ٱلثَّاقِبُ
the piercing!
It is the piercing star (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 3)

اِنْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۗ ٤

in
إِن
Not
kullu
كُلُّ
(is) every
nafsin
نَفْسٍ
soul
lammā
لَّمَّا
but
ʿalayhā
عَلَيْهَا
over it
ḥāfiẓun
حَافِظٌ
(is) a protector
There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 4)

فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْاِنْسَانُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ ٥

falyanẓuri
فَلْيَنظُرِ
So let see
l-insānu
ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ
man
mimma
مِمَّ
from what
khuliqa
خُلِقَ
he is created
So let man observe from what he was created. (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 5)

خُلِقَ مِنْ مَّاۤءٍ دَافِقٍۙ ٦

khuliqa
خُلِقَ
He is created

مِن
from
māin
مَّآءٍ
a water
dāfiqin
دَافِقٍ
ejected
He was created from a fluid, ejected, (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 6)

يَّخْرُجُ مِنْۢ بَيْنِ الصُّلْبِ وَالتَّرَاۤىِٕبِۗ ٧

yakhruju
يَخْرُجُ
Coming forth
min
مِنۢ
from
bayni
بَيْنِ
between
l-ṣul'bi
ٱلصُّلْبِ
the backbone
wal-tarāibi
وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ
and the ribs
Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 7)

اِنَّهٗ عَلٰى رَجْعِهٖ لَقَادِرٌۗ ٨

innahu
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed He
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
to
rajʿihi
رَجْعِهِۦ
return him
laqādirun
لَقَادِرٌ
(is) Able
Indeed, He [i.e., Allah], to return him [to life], is Able. (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 8)

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى السَّرَاۤىِٕرُۙ ٩

yawma
يَوْمَ
(The) Day
tub'lā
تُبْلَى
will be tested
l-sarāiru
ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ
the secrets
The Day when secrets will be put on trial, (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 9)

فَمَا لَهٗ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ وَّلَا نَاصِرٍۗ ١٠

famā
فَمَا
Then not
lahu
لَهُۥ
(is) for him
min
مِن
any
quwwatin
قُوَّةٍ
power
walā
وَلَا
and not
nāṣirin
نَاصِرٍ
any helper
Then he [i.e., man] will have no power or any helper. (QS. [86] At-Tariq: 10)
