Surah 'Abasa - Word by Word

عَبَسَ وَتَوَلّٰىٓۙ ١

He [i.e., the Prophet (^) ] frowned and turned away (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 1)

اَنْ جَاۤءَهُ الْاَعْمٰىۗ ٢

Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 2)

وَمَا يُدْرِيْكَ لَعَلَّهٗ يَزَّكّٰىٓۙ ٣

But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 3)

اَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرٰىۗ ٤

Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 4)

اَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنٰىۙ ٥

As for he who thinks himself without need, (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 5)

فَاَنْتَ لَهٗ تَصَدّٰىۗ ٦

To him you give attention. (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 6)

وَمَا عَلَيْكَ اَلَّا يَزَّكّٰىۗ ٧

And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 7)

وَاَمَّا مَنْ جَاۤءَكَ يَسْعٰىۙ ٨

But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 8)

وَهُوَ يَخْشٰىۙ ٩

While he fears [Allah], (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 9)

فَاَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهّٰىۚ ١٠

From him you are distracted. (QS. [80] 'Abasa: 10)
