Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Muddaththir Verse 56
Al-Muddaththir [74]: 56 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَمَا يَذْكُرُوْنَ اِلَّآ اَنْ يَّشَاۤءَ اللّٰهُ ۗهُوَ اَهْلُ التَّقْوٰى وَاَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ ࣖ (المدثر : ٧٤)
- wamā
- وَمَا
- And not
- yadhkurūna
- يَذْكُرُونَ
- will pay heed
- illā
- إِلَّآ
- except
- an
- أَن
- that
- yashāa
- يَشَآءَ
- wills
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُۚ
- Allah

- هُوَ

- ahlu
- أَهْلُ
- (is) worthy
- l-taqwā
- ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ
- to be feared
- wa-ahlu
- وَأَهْلُ
- and worthy
- l-maghfirati

Transliteration:
Wa maa yazkuroona illaaa any yashaaa'al laah; Huwa ahlut taqwaa wa ahlul maghfirah(QS. al-Muddathir:56)
English / Sahih Translation:
And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. (QS. Al-Muddaththir, ayah 56)

And they will not take advice unless Allah so wills. He is worthy to be feared, and worthy to forgive.

English Literal
And they do not mention/remember except that God wills/wants , He is worthy/relation (owner of) the fear and obedience, and (He is) worthy/relation (owner of) the forgiveness.445

Tafsir jalalayn
And they will not remember (yadhkurna or [read second person plural] tadhkurna) unless God wills [it]. He is [the One] worthy of [your] fear, and [the One] worthy to forgive, by forgiving those who fear Him. Meccan, consisting of 40 verses.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلاَّ أَن يَشَاء اللَّهُ
So, whosoever wills receives admonition (from it)! And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills;
This is similar to Allah's statement,
وَمَا تَشَأءُونَ إِلاَّ أَن يَشَأءَ اللَّهُ
And you cannot will unless Allah wills. (81;29)
Concerning Allah's statement,
هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ
He is the One, deserving the Taqwa and He is the One Who forgives.
This means that He deserves to be feared and He is eligible to forgive the sin of whoever turns to Him and repents.
This was said by Qatadah.
