Al-Qur'an Surah Al-A'raf Verse 42

Al-A'raf [7]: 42 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَالَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا اِلَّا وُسْعَهَآ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ اَصْحٰبُ الْجَنَّةِۚ هُمْ فِيْهَا خٰلِدُوْنَ (الأعراف : ٧)

wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
But those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe
waʿamilū
وَعَمِلُوا۟
and do
l-ṣāliḥāti
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ
[the] righteous deeds
لَا
not
nukallifu
نُكَلِّفُ
We burden
nafsan
نَفْسًا
any soul
illā
إِلَّا
except
wus'ʿahā
وُسْعَهَآ
(to) its capacity
ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those
aṣḥābu
أَصْحَٰبُ
(are the) companions
l-janati
ٱلْجَنَّةِۖ
(of) Paradise
hum
هُمْ
they
fīhā
فِيهَا
in it
khālidūna
خَٰلِدُونَ
(will) abide forever

Transliteration:

Wallazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati la nukallifu nafsan illaa wus'ahaaa ulaaa'ika Ashaabul jannati hum feehaa khaalidoon (QS. al-ʾAʿrāf:42)

English / Sahih Translation:

But those who believed and did righteous deeds – We charge no soul except [within] its capacity. Those are the companions of Paradise; they will abide therein eternally. (QS. Al-A'raf, ayah 42)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Those who believe and do good deeds,-We do not obligate anyone beyond his capacity-they are the people of Paradise; they shall remain there for ever.

As for those who believe and do good—We never require of any soul more than what it can afford—it is they who will be the residents of Paradise. They will be there forever.

English Literal

And those who believed and made/did the correct/righteous deeds, We do not burden/impose a self except its endurance/capacity , those are the Paradises` owners/company , they are in it immortally/eternally.

And those who accepted faith and performed good deeds according to their capacity - We do not burden any one, except within its capacity - are the people of Paradise; they shall abide in it forever.

Tafsir jalalayn

And those who believe and perform righteous deeds (wa'lladhna man wa-`amil'l-slihti is the subject) We do not charge any soul beyond its scope, its capacity for action (l nukallifu nafsan ill wus`ah, `We do not charge any soul beyond its scope', constitutes a parenthetical statement, intervening between it [the above subject] and its predicate, which is [the following]) those are the inhabitants of Paradise, abiding therein.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Destination of Righteous Believers

After Allah mentioned the condition of the miserable ones, He then mentioned the condition of the happy ones, saying,

وَالَّذِينَ امَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ

But those who believed, and worked righteousness,

Their hearts have believed and they performed good deeds with their limbs and senses, as compared to those who disbelieved in the Ayat of Allah and were arrogant with them.

Allah also said that embracing faith and implementing it are easy, when He said,

وَالَّذِينَ امَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلاَّ وُسْعَهَا أُوْلَـيِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ
