(The Letter "Saad")

11

جُنْدٌ مَّا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُوْمٌ مِّنَ الْاَحْزَابِ ١١

jundun
جُندٌ
Soldiers
مَّا
there
hunālika
هُنَالِكَ
there
mahzūmun
مَهْزُومٌ
(they will be) defeated
mina
مِّنَ
among
l-aḥzābi
ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
the companies
[They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers]. (QS. [38] Sad: 11)
Tafsir
12

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوْحٍ وَّعَادٌ وَّفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو الْاَوْتَادِۙ ١٢

كَذَّبَتْ
Denied
qablahum
قَبْلَهُمْ
before them
qawmu
قَوْمُ
(the) people
nūḥin
نُوحٍ
(of) Nuh
waʿādun
وَعَادٌ
and Aad
wafir'ʿawnu
وَفِرْعَوْنُ
and Firaun
dhū
ذُو
(the) owner
l-awtādi
ٱلْأَوْتَادِ
(of) the stakes
The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes, (QS. [38] Sad: 12)
Tafsir
13

وَثَمُوْدُ وَقَوْمُ لُوْطٍ وَّاَصْحٰبُ لْـَٔيْكَةِ ۗ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الْاَحْزَابُ ١٣

wathamūdu
وَثَمُودُ
And Thamud
waqawmu
وَقَوْمُ
and (the) people
lūṭin
لُوطٍ
(of) Lut
wa-aṣḥābu
وَأَصْحَٰبُ
and (the) companions
al'aykati
لْـَٔيْكَةِۚ
(of) the wood
ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those
l-aḥzābu
ٱلْأَحْزَابُ
(were) the companies
And [the tribe of] Thamud and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket [i.e., people of Madyan]. Those are the companies. (QS. [38] Sad: 13)
Tafsir
14

اِنْ كُلٌّ اِلَّا كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ ࣖ ١٤

kadhaba
كَذَّبَ
denied
l-rusula
ٱلرُّسُلَ
the Messengers
faḥaqqa
فَحَقَّ
so was just
ʿiqābi
عِقَابِ
My penalty
Each of them denied the messengers, so My penalty was justified. (QS. [38] Sad: 14)
Tafsir
15

وَمَا يَنْظُرُ هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ اِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِنْ فَوَاقٍ ١٥

wamā
وَمَا
And not
yanẓuru
يَنظُرُ
await
hāulāi
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
these
illā
إِلَّا
but
ṣayḥatan
صَيْحَةً
a shout
wāḥidatan
وَٰحِدَةً
one;
مَّا
not
lahā
لَهَا
for it
min
مِن
any
fawāqin
فَوَاقٍ
delay
And these [disbelievers] await not but one blast [of the Horn]; for it there will be no delay. (QS. [38] Sad: 15)
Tafsir
16

وَقَالُوْا رَبَّنَا عَجِّلْ لَّنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ ١٦

waqālū
وَقَالُوا۟
And they say
rabbanā
رَبَّنَا
"Our Lord!
ʿajjil
عَجِّل
Hasten
lanā
لَّنَا
for us
qiṭṭanā
قِطَّنَا
our share
qabla
قَبْلَ
before
yawmi
يَوْمِ
(the) Day
l-ḥisābi
ٱلْحِسَابِ
(of) the Account"
And they say, "Our Lord, hasten for us our share [of the punishment] before the Day of Account." (QS. [38] Sad: 16)
Tafsir
17

اِصْبِرْ عَلٰى مَا يَقُوْلُوْنَ وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوٗدَ ذَا الْاَيْدِۚ اِنَّهٗٓ اَوَّابٌ ١٧

iṣ'bir
ٱصْبِرْ
Be patient
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
over
مَا
what
yaqūlūna
يَقُولُونَ
they say
wa-udh'kur
وَٱذْكُرْ
and remember
ʿabdanā
عَبْدَنَا
Our slave
dāwūda
دَاوُۥدَ
Dawood
dhā
ذَا
the possessor of strength
l-aydi
ٱلْأَيْدِۖ
the possessor of strength
innahu
إِنَّهُۥٓ
Indeed, he (was)
awwābun
أَوَّابٌ
repeatedly turning
Be patient over what they say and remember Our servant, David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back [to Allah]. (QS. [38] Sad: 17)
Tafsir
18

اِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا الْجِبَالَ مَعَهٗ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِالْعَشِيِّ وَالْاِشْرَاقِۙ ١٨

innā
إِنَّا
Indeed We
sakharnā
سَخَّرْنَا
subjected
l-jibāla
ٱلْجِبَالَ
the mountains
maʿahu
مَعَهُۥ
with him
yusabbiḥ'na
يُسَبِّحْنَ
glorifying
bil-ʿashiyi
بِٱلْعَشِىِّ
in the evening
wal-ish'rāqi
وَٱلْإِشْرَاقِ
and [the] sunrise
Indeed, We subjected the mountains [to praise] with him, exalting [Allah] in the [late] afternoon and [after] sunrise. (QS. [38] Sad: 18)
Tafsir
19

وَالطَّيْرَمَحْشُوْرَةً ۗ كُلٌّ لَهٗٓ اَوَّابٌ ١٩

wal-ṭayra
وَٱلطَّيْرَ
And the birds
maḥshūratan
مَحْشُورَةًۖ
assembled
kullun
كُلٌّ
all
lahu
لَّهُۥٓ
with him
awwābun
أَوَّابٌ
repeatedly turning
And the birds were assembled, all with him repeating [praises]. (QS. [38] Sad: 19)
Tafsir
20

وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهٗ وَاٰتَيْنٰهُ الْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ الْخِطَابِ ٢٠

washadadnā
وَشَدَدْنَا
And We strengthened
mul'kahu
مُلْكَهُۥ
his kingdom
waātaynāhu
وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُ
and We gave him
l-ḥik'mata
ٱلْحِكْمَةَ
[the] wisdom
wafaṣla
وَفَصْلَ
and decisive
l-khiṭābi
ٱلْخِطَابِ
speech
And We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and discernment in speech. (QS. [38] Sad: 20)
