(Luqman)

21

وَاِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمُ اتَّبِعُوْا مَآ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ قَالُوْا بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ اٰبَاۤءَنَاۗ اَوَلَوْ كَانَ الشَّيْطٰنُ يَدْعُوْهُمْ اِلٰى عَذَابِ السَّعِيْرِ ٢١

wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when
qīla
قِيلَ
it is said
lahumu
لَهُمُ
to them
ittabiʿū
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟
"Follow
مَآ
what
anzala
أَنزَلَ
Allah (has) revealed"
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah (has) revealed"
qālū
قَالُوا۟
they say
bal
بَلْ
"Nay
nattabiʿu
نَتَّبِعُ
we will follow
مَا
what
wajadnā
وَجَدْنَا
we found
ʿalayhi
عَلَيْهِ
on it
ābāanā
ءَابَآءَنَآۚ
our forefathers"
awalaw
أَوَلَوْ
Even if
kāna
كَانَ
Shaitaan was
l-shayṭānu
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ
Shaitaan was
yadʿūhum
يَدْعُوهُمْ
(to) call them
ilā
إِلَىٰ
to
ʿadhābi
عَذَابِ
(the) punishment
l-saʿīri
ٱلسَّعِيرِ
(of) the Blaze!
And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that upon which we found our fathers." Even if Satan was inviting them to the punishment of the Blaze? (QS. [31] Luqman: 21)
Tafsir
22

۞ وَمَنْ يُّسْلِمْ وَجْهَهٗٓ اِلَى اللّٰهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقٰىۗ وَاِلَى اللّٰهِ عَاقِبَةُ الْاُمُوْرِ ٢٢

waman
وَمَن
And whoever
yus'lim
يُسْلِمْ
submits
wajhahu
وَجْهَهُۥٓ
his face
ilā
إِلَى
to
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
while he
muḥ'sinun
مُحْسِنٌ
(is) a good- doer
faqadi
فَقَدِ
then indeed
is'tamsaka
ٱسْتَمْسَكَ
he has grasped
bil-ʿur'wati
بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ
the handhold
l-wuth'qā
ٱلْوُثْقَىٰۗ
the most trustworthy
wa-ilā
وَإِلَى
And to
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
ʿāqibatu
عَٰقِبَةُ
(is the) end
l-umūri
ٱلْأُمُورِ
(of) the matters
And whoever submits his face [i.e., self] to Allah while he is a doer of good – then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold. And to Allah will be the outcome of [all] matters. (QS. [31] Luqman: 22)
Tafsir
23

وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَلَا يَحْزُنْكَ كُفْرُهٗۗ اِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ فَنُنَبِّئُهُمْ بِمَا عَمِلُوْاۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلِيْمٌۢ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُوْرِ ٢٣

waman
وَمَن
And whoever
kafara
كَفَرَ
disbelieves
falā
فَلَا
let not
yaḥzunka
يَحْزُنكَ
grieve you
kuf'ruhu
كُفْرُهُۥٓۚ
his disbelief
ilaynā
إِلَيْنَا
To Us
marjiʿuhum
مَرْجِعُهُمْ
(is) their return
fanunabbi-uhum
فَنُنَبِّئُهُم
then We will inform them
bimā
بِمَا
of what
ʿamilū
عَمِلُوٓا۟ۚ
they did
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
ʿalīmun
عَلِيمٌۢ
(is) the All-Knower
bidhāti
بِذَاتِ
of what
l-ṣudūri
ٱلصُّدُورِ
(is in) the breasts
And whoever has disbelieved – let not his disbelief grieve you. To Us is their return, and We will inform them of what they did. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts. (QS. [31] Luqman: 23)
Tafsir
24

نُمَتِّعُهُمْ قَلِيْلًا ثُمَّ نَضْطَرُّهُمْ اِلٰى عَذَابٍ غَلِيْظٍ ٢٤

numattiʿuhum
نُمَتِّعُهُمْ
We grant them enjoyment
qalīlan
قَلِيلًا
(for) a little
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
naḍṭarruhum
نَضْطَرُّهُمْ
We will force them
ilā
إِلَىٰ
to
ʿadhābin
عَذَابٍ
a punishment
ghalīẓin
غَلِيظٍ
severe
We grant them enjoyment for a little; then We will force them to a massive punishment. (QS. [31] Luqman: 24)
Tafsir
25

وَلَىِٕنْ سَاَلْتَهُمْ مَّنْ خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضَ لَيَقُوْلُنَّ اللّٰهُ ۗقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ ۗبَلْ اَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ ٢٥

wala-in
وَلَئِن
And if
sa-altahum
سَأَلْتَهُم
you ask them
man
مَّنْ
"Who
khalaqa
خَلَقَ
created
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wal-arḍa
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
and the earth?"
layaqūlunna
لَيَقُولُنَّ
They will surely say
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُۚ
"Allah"
quli
قُلِ
Say
l-ḥamdu
ٱلْحَمْدُ
"All praises
lillahi
لِلَّهِۚ
(are) for Allah"
bal
بَلْ
But
aktharuhum
أَكْثَرُهُمْ
most of them
لَا
(do) not
yaʿlamūna
يَعْلَمُونَ
know
And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and earth?" they would surely say, "Allah." Say, "[All] praise is [due] to Allah"; but most of them do not know. (QS. [31] Luqman: 25)
Tafsir
26

لِلّٰهِ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ هُوَ الْغَنِيُّ الْحَمِيْدُ ٢٦

lillahi
لِلَّهِ
To Allah (belongs)
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wal-arḍi
وَٱلْأَرْضِۚ
and the earth
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
huwa
هُوَ
He
l-ghaniyu
ٱلْغَنِىُّ
(is) Free of need
l-ḥamīdu
ٱلْحَمِيدُ
the Praiseworthy
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. Indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy. (QS. [31] Luqman: 26)
Tafsir
27

وَلَوْ اَنَّ مَا فِى الْاَرْضِ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ اَقْلَامٌ وَّالْبَحْرُ يَمُدُّهٗ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖ سَبْعَةُ اَبْحُرٍ مَّا نَفِدَتْ كَلِمٰتُ اللّٰهِ ۗاِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَزِيْزٌ حَكِيْمٌ ٢٧

walaw
وَلَوْ
And if
annamā
أَنَّمَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
min
مِن
of
shajaratin
شَجَرَةٍ
(the) trees
aqlāmun
أَقْلَٰمٌ
(were) pens
wal-baḥru
وَٱلْبَحْرُ
and the sea
yamudduhu
يَمُدُّهُۥ
(to) add to it
min
مِنۢ
after it
baʿdihi
بَعْدِهِۦ
after it
sabʿatu
سَبْعَةُ
seven
abḥurin
أَبْحُرٍ
seas
مَّا
not
nafidat
نَفِدَتْ
would be exhausted
kalimātu
كَلِمَٰتُ
(the) Words
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِۗ
(of) Allah
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
ʿazīzun
عَزِيزٌ
(is) All-Mighty
ḥakīmun
حَكِيمٌ
All-Wise
And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was ink], replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words of Allah would not be exhausted. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise. (QS. [31] Luqman: 27)
Tafsir
28

مَا خَلْقُكُمْ وَلَا بَعْثُكُمْ اِلَّا كَنَفْسٍ وَّاحِدَةٍ ۗاِنَّ اللّٰهَ سَمِيْعٌۢ بَصِيْرٌ ٢٨

مَّا
Not
khalqukum
خَلْقُكُمْ
(is) your creation
walā
وَلَا
and not
baʿthukum
بَعْثُكُمْ
your resurrection
illā
إِلَّا
but
kanafsin
كَنَفْسٍ
as a soul
wāḥidatin
وَٰحِدَةٍۗ
single
inna
إِنَّ
Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
samīʿun
سَمِيعٌۢ
(is) All-Hearer
baṣīrun
بَصِيرٌ
All-Seer
Your creation and your resurrection will not be but as that of a single soul. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Seeing. (QS. [31] Luqman: 28)
Tafsir
29

اَلَمْ تَرَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ يُوْلِجُ الَّيْلَ فِى النَّهَارِ وَيُوْلِجُ النَّهَارَ فِى الَّيْلِ وَسَخَّرَ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَۖ كُلٌّ يَّجْرِيْٓ اِلٰٓى اَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى وَّاَنَّ اللّٰهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ خَبِيْرٌ ٢٩

alam
أَلَمْ
Do not
tara
تَرَ
you see
anna
أَنَّ
that
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
yūliju
يُولِجُ
causes to enter
al-layla
ٱلَّيْلَ
the night
فِى
into
l-nahāri
ٱلنَّهَارِ
the day
wayūliju
وَيُولِجُ
and causes to enter
l-nahāra
ٱلنَّهَارَ
the day
فِى
into
al-layli
ٱلَّيْلِ
the night
wasakhara
وَسَخَّرَ
and has subjected
l-shamsa
ٱلشَّمْسَ
the sun
wal-qamara
وَٱلْقَمَرَ
and the moon
kullun
كُلٌّ
each
yajrī
يَجْرِىٓ
moving
ilā
إِلَىٰٓ
for
ajalin
أَجَلٍ
a term
musamman
مُّسَمًّى
appointed
wa-anna
وَأَنَّ
and that
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
bimā
بِمَا
of what
taʿmalūna
تَعْمَلُونَ
you do
khabīrun
خَبِيرٌ
(is) All-Aware
Do you not see [i.e., know] that Allah causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term, and that Allah, of whatever you do, is Aware? (QS. [31] Luqman: 29)
Tafsir
30

ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ وَاَنَّ مَا يَدْعُوْنَ مِنْ دُوْنِهِ الْبَاطِلُۙ وَاَنَّ اللّٰهَ هُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْكَبِيْرُ ࣖ ٣٠

dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
bi-anna
بِأَنَّ
(is) because
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
huwa
هُوَ
He
l-ḥaqu
ٱلْحَقُّ
(is) the Truth
wa-anna
وَأَنَّ
and that
مَا
what
yadʿūna
يَدْعُونَ
they call
min
مِن
besides Him
dūnihi
دُونِهِ
besides Him
l-bāṭilu
ٱلْبَٰطِلُ
(is) [the] falsehood
wa-anna
وَأَنَّ
and that
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
huwa
هُوَ
He
l-ʿaliyu
ٱلْعَلِىُّ
(is) the Most High
l-kabīru
ٱلْكَبِيرُ
the Most Great
That is because Allah is the True Reality, and that what they call upon other than Him is falsehood, and because Allah is the Most High, the Grand. (QS. [31] Luqman: 30)
