Ali 'Imran [3]: 69 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَدَّتْ طَّاۤىِٕفَةٌ مِّنْ اَهْلِ الْكِتٰبِ لَوْ يُضِلُّوْنَكُمْۗ وَمَا يُضِلُّوْنَ اِلَّآ اَنْفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُوْنَ (آل عمران : ٣)

Transliteration:
Waddat taaa'ifatum min Ahlil Kitaabi law yudil loonakum wa maa yudilloona illaaa anfusahum wa maa yash'uroon(QS. ʾĀl ʿImrān:69)
English / Sahih Translation:
A faction of the People of the Scripture wish they could mislead you. But they do not mislead except themselves, and they perceive [it] not. (QS. Ali 'Imran, ayah 69)

Tafsir jalalayn
When the Jews called Mu`dh [b. Jabal], Hudhayfa [b. al-Yamn] and `Ammr [b. Ysir] to [join] their religion, the following was revealed; There is a party of the People of the Scripture who yearn to make you go astray; yet they cause none to stray, except themselves, because the sin for their leading [others] astray falls upon them, while the believers do not heed them in this; but they are not aware, of this.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
The Envy the Jews Feel Towards Muslims; Their Wicked Plots Against Muslims
Allah says;
وَدَّت طَّأيِفَةٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَوْ يُضِلُّونَكُمْ وَمَا يُضِلُّونَ إِلاَّ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ
A party of the People of the Scripture wish to lead you astray. But they shall not lead astray anyone except themselves, and they perceive not.
Allah states that the Jews envy the faithful and wish they could misguide them.
Allah states that the punishment of this behavior will fall back upon them, while they are unaware.
Allah criticizes them,
يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِأيَاتِ اللّهِ وَأَنتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ
