Al-Qur'an Surah An-Nahl Verse 52

An-Nahl [16]: 52 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَلَهٗ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَلَهُ الدِّيْنُ وَاصِبًاۗ اَفَغَيْرَ اللّٰهِ تَتَّقُوْنَ (النحل : ١٦)

walahu
وَلَهُۥ
And to Him (belongs)
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wal-arḍi
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
and the earth
walahu
وَلَهُ
and to Him
l-dīnu
ٱلدِّينُ
(is due) the worship
wāṣiban
وَاصِبًاۚ
constantly
afaghayra
أَفَغَيْرَ
Then is it other (than)
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
tattaqūna
تَتَّقُونَ
you fear?

Transliteration:

Wa lahoo maa fis samaawaati wal ardi wa lahud deenu waasibaa; afaghairal laahi tattaqoon (QS. an-Naḥl:52)

English / Sahih Translation:

And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him is [due] worship constantly. Then is it other than Allah that you fear? (QS. An-Nahl, ayah 52)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

And to Him belongs what is in the heavens and the earth, and it is only He who deserves obedience as ever due. Would you, then, fear someone other than Allah?

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him ˹alone˺ is the everlasting devotion. Will you then fear any other than Allah?

All that is in the heavens and on the earth belongs to Him. Obedience is due to Him forever. Will you still take something other than Allâh as (your) shield?

English Literal

And to Him what (is) in the skies/space and the earth/Planet Earth, and to Him (is) the permanent/continuous/lasting religion, so is other than God you fear and obey?183

Faridul Haque

And to Him only belongs all whatever is in the heavens and in the earth, and obeying Him only is obligatory; so will you fear anyone other than Allah?

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and in the earth, and to Him is duty (obedience) due unceasingly (or religion is for Him fundamentally and forever). Will you then fear other than Allah?

To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and (all that is in) the earth and Ad-Din Wasiba is His [(i.e. perpetual sincere obedience to Allah is obligatory). None has the right to be worshipped but Allah)]. Will you then fear any other than Allah?

And Allah has said: Take not two gods. He is only one God: So Me alone should you fear.

To Him belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and on the earth, and obedience is due to Him alone. Will you then fear anyone other than God?

To Him belongs everything in the heavens and the earth; and to Him obedience is due always. Do you, then, fear anyone other than God?

Tafsir jalalayn

And to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, as possessions, creatures and servants. And to Him belongs the religion, the obedience, that endures, the [one] everlasting (wsiban, is a circumstantial qualifier referring to al-dn, `the religion', and is operated by the sense of the adverbial clause). Will you then fear any other than God?, when He is the True God, other than Whom there is no god (the interrogative is a [statement of] rejection and rebuke).

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

And Allah said "Do not worship two gods. Indeed, He (Allah) is only One God. Then fear Me Alone.To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth and the religion.

Allah tells us that there is no god but He, and that no one else should be worshipped except Him, alone, without partners, for He is the Sovereign, Creator, and Lord of all things.

وَلَهُ الدِّينُ وَاصِبًا

His is the religion Wasiba,

Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, Ikrimah, Maymun bin Mahran, As-Suddi, Qatadah and others said that;

this means forever.

It was also reported that Ibn Abbas said,

"It means obligatory."

Mujahid said;

"It means purely for Him,"

i.e., worship is due to Him Alone, from whoever is in the heavens and on earth.

As Allah says;

أَفَغَيْرَ دِينِ اللَّهِ يَبْغُونَ وَلَهُ أَسْلَمَ مَن فِى السَّمَـوَتِ وَالاٌّرْضِ طَوْعًا وَكَرْهًا وَإِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُونَ

Do they seek other than the religion of Allah, while to Him submitted all creatures in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly. And to Him shall they all be returned. (3;83)

This is in accordance with the opinion of Ibn Abbas and Ikrimah, which is that this Ayah is merely stating the case.

According to the opinion of Mujahid,

it is by way of instruction, i.e., it is saying;You had better fear associating partners in worship with Me, and be sincere in your obedience to Me.

As Allah says;

أَلَا لِلَّهِ الدِّينُ الْخَالِصُ

Surely, the pure religion (sincere devotion) is for Allah only. (39;3)
