Al-Qur'an Surah Hud Verse 68

as though they had never lived there. Lo! The people of Thamūd disbelieved their Lord. Lo! Ruined were the people of Thamūd.

As though they did not inhabit/enrich in it, is (it) not that Thamud disbelieved (in) their Lord, is not destruction/death/curse to Thamud?

Tafsir jalalayn

as if (ka-an had been softened and its subject omitted, in other words [understand it as] ka'annahum) they had not dwelt there, in their dwelling-place; `Lo! Thamd disbelieved in their Lord, lo! away with Thamd!' (this may be read, declined, li-Thamdan, or left, as indeclinable, li-Thamda, referring to the district or the tribe).

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

As if they had never lived there. No doubt! Verily, Thamud disbelieved in their Lord. So away with Thamud!
