Al-Qur'an Surah Yunus Verse 51
Yunus : 51 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
اَثُمَّ اِذَا مَا وَقَعَ اٰمَنْتُمْ بِهٖۗ اٰۤلْـٰٔنَ وَقَدْ كُنْتُمْ بِهٖ تَسْتَعْجِلُوْنَ (يونس : ١٠)
- Is (it) then
- (it had) occurred
- you (will) believe
- in it?
- And certainly
- you were
- seeking to hasten it
- seeking to hasten it
Asumma izaa maa waqa'a aamantum bih; aaal'aana wa qad kuntum bihee tasta'jiloon(QS. al-Yūnus:51)
English / Sahih Translation:
Then is it that when it has [actually] occurred you will believe in it? Now? And you were [once] for it impatient. (QS. Yunus, ayah 51)
Is it only when it befalls you that you will believe in it? (It will be said to you at that time, “Have you believed) now, while you used to demand (in mockery) that it should come sooner?”
Will you believe in it only after it has overtaken you? Now? But you always wanted to hasten it!”
Will you believe in it only after it befalls you? Now! While you used to seek its hastening?”
What, when it has come to pass, will you then believe in it? Now, when already you seek to hasten it!'
Will you believe in it, when it actually happens?’ It will be said, ‘Now [you believe], when [before] you sought to hasten it?’
Is It, then, when it hath befallen, that ye will believe therein Now?- whereas ye have surely been hastening it On.
"Would ye then believe in it at last, when it actually cometh to pass? (It will then be said); 'Ah! now? and ye wanted (aforetime) to hasten it on!'
Is it only when this chastisement has actually overtaken you that you will believe in it? (And when the chastisement will surprise you), you will try to get away from it, although it is you who had sought to hasten its coming.'
Will you believe it when it comes to pass? Indeed, you will believe it then. How impatient you were to hasten it!
“So will you believe it only when it has occurred? What! You believe in it now, whereas you were impatient* for it before? (* Eagerly demanding for it to occur.)
‘What! Do you believe it when it has befallen? Now? While you would seek to hasten it [earlier]?!’
What! Is it only when it has come to pass that you will believe in it? (That day it will be said to you:) "What? (Do you believe in it) now, after you had (in your contemptuous unbelief) wished it to be hastened?"
`Will you then believe in it when this (punishment) has (actually) befallen (you)? (It will be useless then and you will be told), "Now (you believe!) whereas you were keen on hastening it on before the appointed time".´
Is it then when (it) happened! (expression of wonderment) you believed with it/Him now, and you had been with it/Him hurrying/hastening .
"So will you believe it only when it has occurred? What! You believe in it now, whereas you were impatient * for it before? (* Eagerly demanding for it to occur.)
Say, "Have you considered, when His punishment comes to you, by night or day, which portion thereof will the sinners wish to hasten?
Is it then, that when it has actually befallen, that you will believe in it? What! Now (you believe)? And you used (aforetime) to hasten it on!"
Say: Do you see if His chastisement overtakes you by night or by day? What then is there of it that the guilty would hasten?
And when it comes to pass, will you believe in it? What! now (you believe), and already you wished to have it hastened on.
Is it (only) then, when it hath befallen you, that ye will believe? What! (Believe) now, when (until now) ye have been hastening it on (through disbelief)?
Besides, if He was to send them the punishment which they want to quickly experience, would they then have faith?
And when it overtakes you, is it then that you will believe in it, now, when you already try to hasten it!
Is it then that when it has actually befallen, you will believe in it What! Now (you believe) And you used (aforetime) to hasten it on!"
Will you believe in it only after it has overtaken you, although it was your wish to hurry it on?"
“Then, when it falls, will you believe in it? Now? When before you tried to hasten it?”
Is it [only] then, when it has come to pass, [when] it has befallen you, that you will believe therein?, that is, in God, or [it means] in the chastisement, when it has come down (the [use of] hamza [in a-thumma, `is it then'] is to deny [the possibility of] deferrment [of chastisement], in other words, it [your belief] will not be accepted from you [in that instance] and it will be said to you; Now, do you believe, when [until now] you have been hastening it on?', in mockery [of it].
قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَتَاكُمْ عَذَابُهُ بَيَاتًا أَوْ نَهَارًا مَّاذَا يَسْتَعْجِلُ مِنْهُ الْمُجْرِمُونَ أَثُمَّ إِذَا مَا وَقَعَ امَنْتُم بِهِ الانَ وَقَدْ كُنتُم بِهِ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ
Say;"Tell me, if His torment should come to you by night or by day, which portion thereof would the criminals hasten on Is it then that when it has actually befallen, you will believe in it What! Now (you believe) And you used (aforetime) to hasten it on!"
When the punishment befalls them, they will say;
رَبَّنَأ أَبْصَرْنَا وَسَمِعْنَا
"Our Lord! We have now seen and heard." (32;12)
Allah also said;
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْاْ بَأْسَنَا قَالُواْ ءَامَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ وَكَـفَرْنَا بِمَا كُنَّا بِهِ مُشْرِكِينَ
فَلَمْ يَكُ يَنفَعُهُمْ إِيمَـنُهُمْ لَمَّا رَأَوْاْ بَأْسَنَا سُنَّةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِى قَدْ خَلَتْ فِى عِبَادِهِ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ الْكَـفِرُونَ
So when they saw Our punishment, they said;"We believe in Allah alone and reject (all) that we used to associate with Him as (His) partners.
Then their faith could not avail them when they saw Our punishment. (Like) this has been the way of Allah in dealing with His servants. And there the disbelievers lost utterly (when Our torment covered them)." (40;84-85
