Surah Ad-Duhaa - Word by Word

(The Morning Hours)

bismillaahirrahmaanirrahiim
1

وَالضُّحٰىۙ ١

wal-ḍuḥā
وَٱلضُّحَىٰ
By the morning brightness
By the morning brightness . (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 1)
Tafsir
2

وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا سَجٰىۙ ٢

wa-al-layli
وَٱلَّيْلِ
And the night
idhā
إِذَا
when
sajā
سَجَىٰ
it covers with darkness
And [by] the night when it covers with darkness, (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 2)
Tafsir
3

مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلٰىۗ ٣

مَا
Not
waddaʿaka
وَدَّعَكَ
has forsaken you
rabbuka
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
wamā
وَمَا
and not
qalā
قَلَىٰ
He is displeased
Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you]. (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 3)
Tafsir
4

وَلَلْاٰخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ الْاُوْلٰىۗ ٤

walalākhiratu
وَلَلْءَاخِرَةُ
And surely the Hereafter
khayrun
خَيْرٌ
(is) better
laka
لَّكَ
for you
mina
مِنَ
than
l-ūlā
ٱلْأُولَىٰ
the first
And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life]. (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 4)
Tafsir
5

وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيْكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضٰىۗ ٥

walasawfa
وَلَسَوْفَ
And soon
yuʿ'ṭīka
يُعْطِيكَ
will give you
rabbuka
رَبُّكَ
your Lord
fatarḍā
فَتَرْضَىٰٓ
then you will be satisfied
And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied. (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 5)
Tafsir
6

اَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيْمًا فَاٰوٰىۖ ٦

alam
أَلَمْ
Did not
yajid'ka
يَجِدْكَ
He find you
yatīman
يَتِيمًا
an orphan
faāwā
فَـَٔاوَىٰ
and gave shelter?
Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge? (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 6)
Tafsir
7

وَوَجَدَكَ ضَاۤلًّا فَهَدٰىۖ ٧

wawajadaka
وَوَجَدَكَ
And He found you
ḍāllan
ضَآلًّا
lost
fahadā
فَهَدَىٰ
so He guided
And He found you lost and guided [you], (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 7)
Tafsir
8

وَوَجَدَكَ عَاۤىِٕلًا فَاَغْنٰىۗ ٨

wawajadaka
وَوَجَدَكَ
And He found you
ʿāilan
عَآئِلًا
in need
fa-aghnā
فَأَغْنَىٰ
so He made self-sufficient
And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient. (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 8)
Tafsir
9

فَاَمَّا الْيَتِيْمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْۗ ٩

fa-ammā
فَأَمَّا
So as for
l-yatīma
ٱلْيَتِيمَ
the orphan
falā
فَلَا
then (do) not
taqhar
تَقْهَرْ
oppress
So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him]. (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 9)
Tafsir
10

وَاَمَّا السَّاۤىِٕلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ ١٠

wa-ammā
وَأَمَّا
And as for
l-sāila
ٱلسَّآئِلَ
him who asks
falā
فَلَا
then (do) not
tanhar
تَنْهَرْ
repel
And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him]. (QS. [93] Ad-Duhaa: 10)
