Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Layl Verse 8

Al-Layl [92]: 8 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَاَمَّا مَنْۢ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنٰىۙ (الليل : ٩٢)

wa-ammā
وَأَمَّا
But as for
man
مَنۢ
(him) who
bakhila
بَخِلَ
withholds
wa-is'taghnā
وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
and considers himself free from need

Transliteration:

Wa ammaa mam bakhila wastaghnaa (QS. al-Layl:8)

English / Sahih Translation:

But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need (QS. Al-Layl, ayah 8)

But the one who is miser and deems himself self-sufficient,

Tafsir jalalayn

But as for him who is niggardly, with what is due to God, and deems himself self-sufficient, without need for His reward, [92;9] and denies the best [word],

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَأَمَّا مَن بَخِلَ


But he who is greedy,

meaning, with that which he has.

وَاسْتَغْنَى




and thinks himself self-sufficient,

Ikrimah reported that Ibn Abbas said,

"This means he is stingy with his wealth and considers himself to be in no need of his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic."

This was recorded by Ibn Abi Hatim.

وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنَى
