Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Layl Verse 16

Al-Layl [92]: 16 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

الَّذِيْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰىۗ (الليل : ٩٢)

alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
The one who
kadhaba
كَذَّبَ
denied
watawallā
وَتَوَلَّىٰ
and turned away

Transliteration:

Allazee kazzaba wa tawallaa (QS. al-Layl:16)

English / Sahih Translation:

Who had denied and turned away. (QS. Al-Layl, ayah 16)

Tafsir jalalayn

he who denies, the Prophet, and turns away, from faith -- this delimiting [of those who deserve to enter this fire] constitutes an interpretation of His saying, But He forgives other than that to whomever He will [Q. 4;48], which in turn suggests that what is meant is that entry [into the Fire] which will be everlasting.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

الَّذِي كَذَّبَ


Who denies, meaning, in his heart.

وَتَوَلَّى




and turns away.

meaning, from acting with his limbs and performing deeds according to their pillars.

Imam Ahmad recorded from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah said,

كُلُّ أُمَّتِي يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّـةَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِلاَّ مَنْ أَبَى

All of my followers will enter Paradise on the Day of Judgement except for whoever refuses.

They (the Companions) said, "Who would refuse, O Messenger of Allah"

He replied,

مَنْ أَطَاعَنِي دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ وَمَنْ عَصَانِي فَقَدْ أَبَى

Whoever obeys me, he will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me, then he has refused.

Al-Bukhari also recorded this Hadith.

Allah then says,

وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الاَْتْقَى
