Al-Qur'an Surah At-Tawbah Verse 96

At-Tawbah [9]: 96 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

يَحْلِفُوْنَ لَكُمْ لِتَرْضَوْا عَنْهُمْ ۚفَاِنْ تَرْضَوْا عَنْهُمْ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَرْضٰى عَنِ الْقَوْمِ الْفٰسِقِيْنَ (التوبة : ٩)

yaḥlifūna
يَحْلِفُونَ
They swear
lakum
لَكُمْ
to you
litarḍaw
لِتَرْضَوْا۟
that you may be pleased
ʿanhum
عَنْهُمْۖ
with them
fa-in
فَإِن
But if
tarḍaw
تَرْضَوْا۟
you are pleased
ʿanhum
عَنْهُمْ
with them
fa-inna
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَا
(is) not pleased
yarḍā
يَرْضَىٰ
(is) not pleased
ʿani
عَنِ
with
l-qawmi
ٱلْقَوْمِ
the people
l-fāsiqīna
ٱلْفَٰسِقِينَ
(who are) defiantly disobedient

Transliteration:

Yahlifoona lakum litardaw 'anhum fa in tardaw 'anhum fa innal laaha laa yardaa 'anil qawmil faasiqeen (QS. at-Tawbah:96)

English / Sahih Translation:

They swear to you so that you might be satisfied with them. But if you should be satisfied with them – indeed, Allah is not satisfied with a defiantly disobedient people. (QS. At-Tawbah, ayah 96)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

They swear before you, so that you may be pleased with them. So, even if you are pleased with them, Allah will not be pleased with the sinning people.

They will swear to you in order to please you. And even if you are pleased with them, Allah will never be pleased with the rebellious people.

They will swear unto you, that ye may be pleased with them but if ye are pleased with them, Allah is not pleased with those who disobey.

They will swear to you in order to please you. But even if you become pleased with them, Allah will not be pleased with such an evil-doing folk.

They will plead on oath that you accept them. Even if you accept them, remember God does not accept people who are disobedient.

They swear before you that you may be pleased with them; so if you become pleased with them, then indeed Allah will never be pleased with the sinful.

They swear to you that you may be reconciled to them. But even if you are reconciled to them, Allah shall not be reconciled to the transgressing lot.

They will swear to you so that you may be pleased with them. But even should you be pleased with them, God will not be pleased with the transgressing people.

They will swear to you that you may be pleased with them; but even if you are pleased with them (they should know that) Allâh will not be pleased with the disobedient people.

English Literal

They swear/take oath to you to accept/approve of them, so if you accept/approve of them, so that God does not accept/approve of the nation the debauchers .

They swear before you that you may be pleased with them; so if you become pleased with them, then indeed Allah will never be pleased with the sinful.

They will swear unto you that you may accept them; but if you accept them, Allah, verily accepts not a people who work abomination.

They (the hypocrites) swear to you (Muslims) that you may be pleased with them, but if you are pleased with them, certainly Allah is not pleased with the people who are Al-Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).

They will swear by Allah to you, when you return to them, so that you may leave them alone. So leave them alone. Surely they are unclean and their refuge is hell -- a recompense for what they earned.

They will swear to you that you may be pleased with them; but if you are pleased with them, yet surely Allah is not pleased with the transgressing people.

They (the hypocrites) swear to you (Muslims) that you may be pleased with them, but if you are pleased with them, certainly Allah is not pleased with the people who are Fasiqin (rebellious).

Wahiduddin Khan

they will swear to you, so that you may be pleased with them. But [even] if you are pleased with them, God is not pleased with rebellious people.

Talal Itani

They will swear to you that you may accept them. But even if you accept them, God does not accept the wicked people.

Tafsir jalalayn

They will swear to you, that you may be satisfied with them; but if you are satisfied with them, God will surely not be satisfied with the wicked folk, that is, with them; your satisfaction is of no avail in the face of the wrath of God.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

يَحْلِفُونَ لَكُمْ لِتَرْضَوْاْ عَنْهُمْ فَإِن تَرْضَوْاْ عَنْهُمْ

They (the hypocrites) swear to you (Muslims) that you may be pleased with them, but if you are pleased with them,

Allah said that if the believers forgive the hypocrites when they swear to them,

فَإِنَّ اللّهَ لَا يَرْضَى عَنِ الْقَوْمِ الْفَاسِقِينَ



certainly Allah is not pleased with the people who are Fasiqin.

who rebel against the obedience of Allah and His Messenger.
Fisq, means, `deviation'
