Al-Qur'an Surah At-Tawbah Verse 82

At-Tawbah [9]: 82 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

فَلْيَضْحَكُوْا قَلِيْلًا وَّلْيَبْكُوْا كَثِيْرًاۚ جَزَاۤءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوْا يَكْسِبُوْنَ (التوبة : ٩)

falyaḍḥakū
فَلْيَضْحَكُوا۟
So let them laugh
qalīlan
قَلِيلًا
a little
walyabkū
وَلْيَبْكُوا۟
and let them weep
kathīran
كَثِيرًا
much
jazāan
جَزَآءًۢ
(as) a recompense
bimā
بِمَا
for what
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they used to
yaksibūna
يَكْسِبُونَ
earn

Transliteration:

Falyadhakoo qaleelanw walyabkoo kaseeran jazaaa'am bimaa kaanoo yaksiboon (QS. at-Tawbah:82)

English / Sahih Translation:

So let them laugh a little and [then] weep much as recompense for what they used to earn. (QS. At-Tawbah, ayah 82)

So let them laugh a little...

Ibn Abi Talhah reported that Ibn Abbas commented,

"Life is short, so let them laugh as much as they like in it. But when life ends and they are returned to Allah, the Exalted and Most Honored, they will start crying forever without end."

وَلْيَبْكُواْ كَثِيرًا جَزَاء بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكْسِبُونَ



and (they will) cry much as a recompense of what they used to earn (by committing sins).
