Al-Qur'an Surah At-Tawbah Verse 54
At-Tawbah [9]: 54 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَمَا مَنَعَهُمْ اَنْ تُقْبَلَ مِنْهُمْ نَفَقٰتُهُمْ اِلَّآ اَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوْا بِاللّٰهِ وَبِرَسُوْلِهٖ وَلَا يَأْتُوْنَ الصَّلٰوةَ اِلَّا وَهُمْ كُسَالٰى وَلَا يُنْفِقُوْنَ اِلَّا وَهُمْ كٰرِهُوْنَ (التوبة : ٩)

- ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
- (to) the prayer

- إِلَّا
- except
- wahum
- وَهُمْ
- while they

- كُسَالَىٰ
- (are) lazy
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- yunfiqūna
- يُنفِقُونَ
- they spend
- illā
- إِلَّا

- وَهُمْ

- kārihūna
- كَٰرِهُونَ
- (are) unwilling
Transliteration:
Wa maa mana'ahum an tuqbala minhum nafaqaatuhum illaaa annnahum kafaroo billaahi wa bi Rasoolihee wa laa yaatoonas Salaata illaa wa hum kusaalaa wa laa yunfiqoona illaa wa hum kaarihoon(QS. at-Tawbah:54)
English / Sahih Translation:
And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger and that they come not to prayer except while they are lazy and that they do not spend except while they are unwilling. (QS. At-Tawbah, ayah 54)

Nothing has prevented their spending from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger, and they do not come to the Salāh but lazily, and do not spend but without volition.

And nothing prevents their contributions from being accepted except that they (practically) disbelieve in Allâh and His Messenger and they perform not the Prayer but lazily and they spend not (in the cause of Allâh) but reluctantly.
English Literal
And nothing prevented/prohibited them that their expenses/expenditures that (E) be accepted/received from them, except that they disbelieved by God, and with His messenger and they do not come (to) the prayers except and (while) they are lazy, and they do not spend except and (while) they are hating.

The only reason their contributions are not accepted is that they have denied God and His Messenger, they come to the prayer half heartedly, and they offer contributions unwillingly.

What prevents the acceptance of their contributions is nothing but the fact that they disbelieved in God and His Messenger, and that they do not approach the prayer except lazily, and that they do not spend except grudgingly.
Tafsir jalalayn
And nothing prevents their expenditure from being accepted (read as yuqbala or tuqbala) from them, but that they (innahum is the subject of the verb, while an tuqbala, `being accepted' constitutes the object) have disbelieved in God and His Messenger, and that they do not come to [perform] prayer save as idlers, sluggishly, and that they do not expend without their being reluctant, to expend, for they consider it a financial penalty.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
وَمَا مَنَعَهُمْ أَن تُقْبَلَ مِنْهُمْ نَفَقَاتُهُمْ
And nothing prevents their contributions from being accepted from them,
Allah mentions the reason behind not accepting their charity from them,
إِلاَّ أَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُواْ بِاللّهِ وَبِرَسُولِهِ
except that they disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger.
and the deeds are accepted if they are preceded with faith,
وَلَا يَأْتُونَ الصَّلَةَ إِلاَّ وَهُمْ كُسَالَى
and that they came not to the Salah except in a lazy state.
Therefore, they neither have good intention nor eagerness to perform the acts (of faith),
وَلَا يُنفِقُونَ إِلاَّ وَهُمْ كَارِهُونَ
and that they offer not contributions but unwillingly.
The Truthful, to whom the Truth was revealed, Muhammad, peace be upon him, said that;
Allah does not stop giving rewards until you (believers) stop performing good deeds, and that Allah is Tayyib (Good and Pure) and only accepts what is Tayyib. This is why Allah does not accept charity or good deeds from the people described in these Ayat, because He only accepts it from those who have Taqwa
