Al-Qur'an Surah At-Tawbah Verse 44

Those who believe in Allah and in the Last Day do not ask you to excuse them from Jihād with their wealth and lives. Allah is aware of the God-fearing.

English Literal

Those who believe by God and the Day the Last/Resurrection Day do not ask for your permission/pardon that they struggle/do their utmost with their properties/possessions and themselves, and God (is) knowledgeable with the fearing and obeying.

Tafsir jalalayn

Those who believe in God and the Last Day do not ask leave of you, to stay behind, that they may struggle with their possessions and their lives; and God knows the pious.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

لَا يَسْتَأْذِنُكَ

would not ask your leave,

to stay behind from Jihad,

الَّذِينَ يُوْمِنُونَ بِاللّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الاخِرِ أَن يُجَاهِدُواْ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ

Those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, to be exempted from fighting with their properties and their lives.

because they consider Jihad an act of worship. This is why when Allah called them to perform Jihad, they obeyed and hasten to act in His obedience,

وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالْمُتَّقِينَ
