Al-Qur'an Surah At-Tawbah Verse 126
At-Tawbah [9]: 126 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
اَوَلَا يَرَوْنَ اَنَّهُمْ يُفْتَنُوْنَ فِيْ كُلِّ عَامٍ مَّرَّةً اَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ لَا يَتُوْبُوْنَ وَلَا هُمْ يَذَّكَّرُوْنَ (التوبة : ٩)

Transliteration:
Awalaa yarawna annahum yuftanoona fee kulli 'aamim marratan aw marrataini summa laa yatooboona wa laa hum yazzakkkaroon(QS. at-Tawbah:126)
English / Sahih Translation:
Do they not see that they are tried every year once or twice but then they do not repent nor do they remember? (QS. At-Tawbah, ayah 126)

Tafsir jalalayn
Do they not see, that is, the hypocrites ([in which case] read a-wa-l yarawna; or if read a-wa-l tarawna, `do you, O believers, not see') that they are tested, afflicted, every year once or twice?, with drought and diseases. Still they do not repent, of their hypocrisy, nor do they remember, [nor] do they heed admonition.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
Hypocrites suffer Afflictions
Allah says,
أَوَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُمْ يُفْتَنُونَ
See they not that they are put in trial,
being tested,
فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ مَّرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ ثُمَّ لَا يَتُوبُونَ وَلَا هُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ
once or twice every year! Yet, they turn not in repentance, nor do they learn a lesson.
They neither repent from their previous sins nor learn a lesson for the future.
Mujahid said that;
hypocrites are tested with drought and hunger.
Allah said;
وَإِذَا مَا أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ نَّظَرَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ هَلْ يَرَاكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ ثُمَّ انصَرَفُواْ صَرَفَ اللّهُ قُلُوبَهُم بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لاَّ يَفْقَهُون
