Surah At-Tawbah - Page: 6

(The Repentance)

51

قُلْ لَّنْ يُّصِيْبَنَآ اِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ اللّٰهُ لَنَاۚ هُوَ مَوْلٰىنَا وَعَلَى اللّٰهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ ٥١

qul
قُل
Say
lan
لَّن
"Never
yuṣībanā
يُصِيبَنَآ
will befall us
illā
إِلَّا
except
مَا
what
kataba
كَتَبَ
Allah has decreed
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah has decreed
lanā
لَنَا
for us
huwa
هُوَ
He
mawlānā
مَوْلَىٰنَاۚ
(is) our Protector"
waʿalā
وَعَلَى
And on
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
falyatawakkali
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ
[so] let the believers put (their) trust
l-mu'minūna
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
[so] let the believers put (their) trust
Say, "Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector." And upon Allah let the believers rely. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 51)
Tafsir
52

قُلْ هَلْ تَرَبَّصُوْنَ بِنَآ اِلَّآ اِحْدَى الْحُسْنَيَيْنِۗ وَنَحْنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمْ اَنْ يُّصِيْبَكُمُ اللّٰهُ بِعَذَابٍ مِّنْ عِنْدِهٖٓ اَوْ بِاَيْدِيْنَاۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوْٓا اِنَّا مَعَكُمْ مُّتَرَبِّصُوْنَ ٥٢

قُلْ
Say
hal
هَلْ
"Do
tarabbaṣūna
تَرَبَّصُونَ
you await
binā
بِنَآ
for us
illā
إِلَّآ
except
iḥ'dā
إِحْدَى
one
l-ḥus'nayayni
ٱلْحُسْنَيَيْنِۖ
(of) the two best (things)
wanaḥnu
وَنَحْنُ
while we
natarabbaṣu
نَتَرَبَّصُ
[we] await
bikum
بِكُمْ
for you
an
أَن
that
yuṣībakumu
يُصِيبَكُمُ
Allah will afflict you
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah will afflict you
biʿadhābin
بِعَذَابٍ
with a punishment
min
مِّنْ
from
ʿindihi
عِندِهِۦٓ
[near] Him
aw
أَوْ
or
bi-aydīnā
بِأَيْدِينَاۖ
by our hands?
fatarabbaṣū
فَتَرَبَّصُوٓا۟
So wait
innā
إِنَّا
indeed, we
maʿakum
مَعَكُم
with you
mutarabbiṣūna
مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ
(are) waiting"
Say, "Do you await for us except one of the two best things [i.e., martyrdom or victory] while we await for you that Allah will afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands? So wait; indeed we, along with you, are waiting." (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 52)
Tafsir
53

قُلْ اَنْفِقُوْا طَوْعًا اَوْ كَرْهًا لَّنْ يُّتَقَبَّلَ مِنْكُمْ ۗاِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا فٰسِقِيْنَ ٥٣

qul
قُلْ
Say
anfiqū
أَنفِقُوا۟
"Spend
ṭawʿan
طَوْعًا
willingly
aw
أَوْ
or
karhan
كَرْهًا
unwillingly;
lan
لَّن
never
yutaqabbala
يُتَقَبَّلَ
will be accepted
minkum
مِنكُمْۖ
from you
innakum
إِنَّكُمْ
Indeed you
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
[you] are
qawman
قَوْمًا
a people
fāsiqīna
فَٰسِقِينَ
defiantly disobedient"
Say, "Spend willingly or unwillingly; never will it be accepted from you. Indeed, you have been a defiantly disobedient people." (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 53)
Tafsir
54

وَمَا مَنَعَهُمْ اَنْ تُقْبَلَ مِنْهُمْ نَفَقٰتُهُمْ اِلَّآ اَنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوْا بِاللّٰهِ وَبِرَسُوْلِهٖ وَلَا يَأْتُوْنَ الصَّلٰوةَ اِلَّا وَهُمْ كُسَالٰى وَلَا يُنْفِقُوْنَ اِلَّا وَهُمْ كٰرِهُوْنَ ٥٤

wamā
وَمَا
And not
manaʿahum
مَنَعَهُمْ
prevents them
an
أَن
that
tuq'bala
تُقْبَلَ
is accepted
min'hum
مِنْهُمْ
from them
nafaqātuhum
نَفَقَٰتُهُمْ
their contributions
illā
إِلَّآ
except
annahum
أَنَّهُمْ
that they
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieve
bil-lahi
بِٱللَّهِ
in Allah
wabirasūlihi
وَبِرَسُولِهِۦ
and in His Messenger
walā
وَلَا
and not
yatūna
يَأْتُونَ
they come
l-ṣalata
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
(to) the prayer
illā
إِلَّا
except
wahum
وَهُمْ
while they
kusālā
كُسَالَىٰ
(are) lazy
walā
وَلَا
and not
yunfiqūna
يُنفِقُونَ
they spend
illā
إِلَّا
except
wahum
وَهُمْ
while they
kārihūna
كَٰرِهُونَ
(are) unwilling
And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger and that they come not to prayer except while they are lazy and that they do not spend except while they are unwilling. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 54)
Tafsir
55

فَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ اَمْوَالُهُمْ وَلَآ اَوْلَادُهُمْ ۗاِنَّمَا يُرِيْدُ اللّٰهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ بِهَا فِى الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ اَنْفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كٰفِرُوْنَ ٥٥

falā
فَلَا
So (let) not
tuʿ'jib'ka
تُعْجِبْكَ
impress you
amwāluhum
أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ
their wealth
walā
وَلَآ
and not
awlāduhum
أَوْلَٰدُهُمْۚ
their children
innamā
إِنَّمَا
Only
yurīdu
يُرِيدُ
Allah intends
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah intends
liyuʿadhibahum
لِيُعَذِّبَهُم
to punish them
bihā
بِهَا
with it
فِى
in
l-ḥayati
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
the life
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world
watazhaqa
وَتَزْهَقَ
and should depart
anfusuhum
أَنفُسُهُمْ
their souls
wahum
وَهُمْ
while they
kāfirūna
كَٰفِرُونَ
(are) disbelievers
So let not their wealth or their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in worldly life and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 55)
Tafsir
56

وَيَحْلِفُوْنَ بِاللّٰهِ اِنَّهُمْ لَمِنْكُمْۗ وَمَا هُمْ مِّنْكُمْ وَلٰكِنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ يَّفْرَقُوْنَ ٥٦

wayaḥlifūna
وَيَحْلِفُونَ
And they swear
bil-lahi
بِٱللَّهِ
by Allah
innahum
إِنَّهُمْ
indeed they
laminkum
لَمِنكُمْ
surely (are) of you
wamā
وَمَا
while not
hum
هُم
they
minkum
مِّنكُمْ
(are) of you
walākinnahum
وَلَٰكِنَّهُمْ
but they
qawmun
قَوْمٌ
(are) a people
yafraqūna
يَفْرَقُونَ
(who) are afraid
And they swear by Allah that they are from among you while they are not from among you; but they are a people who are afraid. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 56)
Tafsir
57

لَوْ يَجِدُوْنَ مَلْجَاً اَوْ مَغٰرٰتٍ اَوْ مُدَّخَلًا لَّوَلَّوْا اِلَيْهِ وَهُمْ يَجْمَحُوْنَ ٥٧

لَوْ
If
yajidūna
يَجِدُونَ
they could find
malja-an
مَلْجَـًٔا
a refuge
aw
أَوْ
or
maghārātin
مَغَٰرَٰتٍ
caves
aw
أَوْ
or
muddakhalan
مُدَّخَلًا
a place to enter
lawallaw
لَّوَلَّوْا۟
surely they would turn
ilayhi
إِلَيْهِ
to it
wahum
وَهُمْ
and they
yajmaḥūna
يَجْمَحُونَ
run wild
If they could find a refuge or some caves or any place to enter [and hide], they would turn to it while they run heedlessly. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 57)
Tafsir
58

وَمِنْهُمْ مَّنْ يَّلْمِزُكَ فِى الصَّدَقٰتِۚ فَاِنْ اُعْطُوْا مِنْهَا رَضُوْا وَاِنْ لَّمْ يُعْطَوْا مِنْهَآ اِذَا هُمْ يَسْخَطُوْنَ ٥٨

wamin'hum
وَمِنْهُم
And among them
man
مَّن
(is he) who
yalmizuka
يَلْمِزُكَ
criticizes you
فِى
concerning
l-ṣadaqāti
ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ
the charities
fa-in
فَإِنْ
Then if
uʿ'ṭū
أُعْطُوا۟
they are given
min'hā
مِنْهَا
from it
raḍū
رَضُوا۟
they are pleased;
wa-in
وَإِن
but if
lam
لَّمْ
not
yuʿ'ṭaw
يُعْطَوْا۟
they are given
min'hā
مِنْهَآ
from it
idhā
إِذَا
then
hum
هُمْ
they
yaskhaṭūna
يَسْخَطُونَ
(are) enraged
And among them are some who criticize you concerning the [distribution of] charities. If they are given from them, they approve; but if they are not given from them, at once they become angry. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 58)
Tafsir
59

وَلَوْ اَنَّهُمْ رَضُوْا مَآ اٰتٰىهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَرَسُوْلُهٗۙ وَقَالُوْا حَسْبُنَا اللّٰهُ سَيُؤْتِيْنَا اللّٰهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهٖ وَرَسُوْلُهٗٓ اِنَّآ اِلَى اللّٰهِ رَاغِبُوْنَ ࣖ ٥٩

وَلَوْ
And if
annahum
أَنَّهُمْ
[that] they
raḍū
رَضُوا۟
(were) satisfied
مَآ
(with) what
ātāhumu
ءَاتَىٰهُمُ
Allah gave them
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah gave them
warasūluhu
وَرَسُولُهُۥ
and His Messenger
waqālū
وَقَالُوا۟
and said
ḥasbunā
حَسْبُنَا
"Sufficient for us
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
(is) Allah
sayu'tīnā
سَيُؤْتِينَا
Allah will give us
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah will give us
min
مِن
of
faḍlihi
فَضْلِهِۦ
His Bounty
warasūluhu
وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ
and His Messenger
innā
إِنَّآ
Indeed, we
ilā
إِلَى
to
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
rāghibūna
رَٰغِبُونَ
turn our hopes"
If only they had been satisfied with what Allah and His Messenger gave them and said, "Sufficient for us is Allah; Allah will give us of His bounty, and [so will] His Messenger; indeed, we are desirous toward Allah," [it would have been better for them]. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 59)
Tafsir
60

۞ اِنَّمَا الصَّدَقٰتُ لِلْفُقَرَاۤءِ وَالْمَسٰكِيْنِ وَالْعَامِلِيْنَ عَلَيْهَا وَالْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوْبُهُمْ وَفِى الرِّقَابِ وَالْغَارِمِيْنَ وَفِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيْلِۗ فَرِيْضَةً مِّنَ اللّٰهِ ۗوَاللّٰهُ عَلِيْمٌ حَكِيْمٌ ٦٠

innamā
إِنَّمَا
Only
l-ṣadaqātu
ٱلصَّدَقَٰتُ
the charities
lil'fuqarāi
لِلْفُقَرَآءِ
(are) for the poor
wal-masākīni
وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينِ
and the needy
wal-ʿāmilīna
وَٱلْعَٰمِلِينَ
and those who collect
ʿalayhā
عَلَيْهَا
them
wal-mu-alafati
وَٱلْمُؤَلَّفَةِ
and the ones inclined
qulūbuhum
قُلُوبُهُمْ
their hearts
wafī
وَفِى
and in
l-riqābi
ٱلرِّقَابِ
the (freeing of) the necks
wal-ghārimīna
وَٱلْغَٰرِمِينَ
and for those in debt
wafī
وَفِى
and in
sabīli
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
wa-ib'ni
وَٱبْنِ
and the wayfarer
l-sabīli
ٱلسَّبِيلِۖ
and the wayfarer
farīḍatan
فَرِيضَةً
an obligation
mina
مِّنَ
from
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِۗ
Allah
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
ʿalīmun
عَلِيمٌ
(is) All-Knowing
ḥakīmun
حَكِيمٌ
All-Wise
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed for it and for bringing hearts together [for IsLam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler – an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 60)
