بَرَاۤءَةٌ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ وَرَسُوْلِهٖٓ اِلَى الَّذِيْنَ عَاهَدْتُّمْ مِّنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَۗ ١
- barāatun
- بَرَآءَةٌ
- Freedom from obligations

- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- warasūlihi
- وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ
- and His Messenger
- ilā
- إِلَى
- to
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those (with) whom
- ʿāhadttum
- عَٰهَدتُّم
- you made a treaty
- mina
- مِّنَ
- from
- l-mush'rikīna
- ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
- the polytheists
[This is a declaration of] disassociation, from Allah and His Messenger, to those with whom you had made a treaty among the polytheists. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 1)Tafsir
فَسِيْحُوْا فِى الْاَرْضِ اَرْبَعَةَ اَشْهُرٍ وَّاعْلَمُوْٓا اَنَّكُمْ غَيْرُ مُعْجِزِى اللّٰهِ ۙوَاَنَّ اللّٰهَ مُخْزِى الْكٰفِرِيْنَ ٢
- fasīḥū
- فَسِيحُوا۟
- So move about
- fī
- فِى
- in
- l-arḍi
- ٱلْأَرْضِ
- the land
- arbaʿata
- أَرْبَعَةَ
- (during) four
- ashhurin
- أَشْهُرٍ
- months
- wa-iʿ'lamū
- وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟
- but know
- annakum
- أَنَّكُمْ
- that you
- ghayru
- غَيْرُ
- (can) not
- muʿ'jizī
- مُعْجِزِى
- escape
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِۙ
- Allah
- wa-anna
- وَأَنَّ
- and that
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- mukh'zī
- مُخْزِى
- (is) the One Who (will) disgrace
- l-kāfirīna
- ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
- the disbelievers
So travel freely, [O disbelievers], throughout the land [during] four months but know that you cannot cause failure to Allah and that Allah will disgrace the disbelievers. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 2)Tafsir
وَاَذَانٌ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ وَرَسُوْلِهٖٓ اِلَى النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْحَجِّ الْاَكْبَرِ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ بَرِيْۤءٌ مِّنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ ەۙ وَرَسُوْلُهٗ ۗفَاِنْ تُبْتُمْ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْۚ وَاِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ فَاعْلَمُوْٓا اَنَّكُمْ غَيْرُ مُعْجِزِى اللّٰهِ ۗوَبَشِّرِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا بِعَذَابٍ اَلِيْمٍۙ ٣
- wa-adhānun
- وَأَذَٰنٌ
- And an announcement
- mina
- مِّنَ
- from Allah
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- from Allah
- warasūlihi
- وَرَسُولِهِۦٓ
- and His Messenger
- ilā
- إِلَى
- to
- l-nāsi
- ٱلنَّاسِ
- the people
- yawma
- يَوْمَ
- (on the) day
- l-ḥaji
- ٱلْحَجِّ
- (of) the greater Pilgrimage
- l-akbari
- ٱلْأَكْبَرِ
- (of) the greater Pilgrimage
- anna
- أَنَّ
- that
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- barīon
- بَرِىٓءٌ
- (is) free from obligations
- mina
- مِّنَ
- [of]
- l-mush'rikīna
- ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَۙ
- (to) the polytheists
- warasūluhu
- وَرَسُولُهُۥۚ
- and (so is) His Messenger
- fa-in
- فَإِن
- So if
- tub'tum
- تُبْتُمْ
- you repent
- fahuwa
- فَهُوَ
- then, it is
- khayrun
- خَيْرٌ
- best
- lakum
- لَّكُمْۖ
- for you
- wa-in
- وَإِن
- But if
- tawallaytum
- تَوَلَّيْتُمْ
- you turn away
- fa-iʿ'lamū
- فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟
- then know
- annakum
- أَنَّكُمْ
- that you
- ghayru
- غَيْرُ
- (can) not
- muʿ'jizī
- مُعْجِزِى
- escape
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِۗ
- Allah
- wabashiri
- وَبَشِّرِ
- And give glad tidings
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (to) those who
- kafarū
- كَفَرُوا۟
- disbelieve
- biʿadhābin
- بِعَذَابٍ
- of a punishment
- alīmin
- أَلِيمٍ
- painful
And [it is] an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah is disassociated from the disbelievers, and [so is] His Messenger. So if you repent, that is best for you; but if you turn away – then know that you will not cause failure to Allah. And give tidings to those who disbelieve of a painful punishment. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 3)Tafsir
اِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ عَاهَدْتُّمْ مِّنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنْقُصُوْكُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَّلَمْ يُظَاهِرُوْا عَلَيْكُمْ اَحَدًا فَاَتِمُّوْٓا اِلَيْهِمْ عَهْدَهُمْ اِلٰى مُدَّتِهِمْۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ ٤
- illā
- إِلَّا
- Except
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those (with) whom
- ʿāhadttum
- عَٰهَدتُّم
- you have a treaty
- mina
- مِّنَ
- among
- l-mush'rikīna
- ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
- the polytheists
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- then
- lam
- لَمْ
- not
- yanquṣūkum
- يَنقُصُوكُمْ
- they have failed you
- shayan
- شَيْـًٔا
- (in any) thing
- walam
- وَلَمْ
- and not
- yuẓāhirū
- يُظَٰهِرُوا۟
- they have supported
- ʿalaykum
- عَلَيْكُمْ
- against you
- aḥadan
- أَحَدًا
- anyone
- fa-atimmū
- فَأَتِمُّوٓا۟
- so fulfil
- ilayhim
- إِلَيْهِمْ
- to them
- ʿahdahum
- عَهْدَهُمْ
- their treaty
- ilā
- إِلَىٰ
- till
- muddatihim
- مُدَّتِهِمْۚ
- their term
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- yuḥibbu
- يُحِبُّ
- loves
- l-mutaqīna
- ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
- the righteous
Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him]. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 4)Tafsir
فَاِذَا انْسَلَخَ الْاَشْهُرُ الْحُرُمُ فَاقْتُلُوا الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ حَيْثُ وَجَدْتُّمُوْهُمْ وَخُذُوْهُمْ وَاحْصُرُوْهُمْ وَاقْعُدُوْا لَهُمْ كُلَّ مَرْصَدٍۚ فَاِنْ تَابُوْا وَاَقَامُوا الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتَوُا الزَّكٰوةَ فَخَلُّوْا سَبِيْلَهُمْۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ ٥
- fa-idhā
- فَإِذَا
- Then when
- insalakha
- ٱنسَلَخَ
- have passed
- l-ashhuru
- ٱلْأَشْهُرُ
- the sacred months
- l-ḥurumu
- ٱلْحُرُمُ
- the sacred months
- fa-uq'tulū
- فَٱقْتُلُوا۟
- then kill
- l-mush'rikīna
- ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
- the polytheists
- ḥaythu
- حَيْثُ
- wherever
- wajadttumūhum
- وَجَدتُّمُوهُمْ
- you find them
- wakhudhūhum
- وَخُذُوهُمْ
- and seize them
- wa-uḥ'ṣurūhum
- وَٱحْصُرُوهُمْ
- and besiege them
- wa-uq'ʿudū
- وَٱقْعُدُوا۟
- and sit (in wait)
- lahum
- لَهُمْ
- for them
- kulla
- كُلَّ
- (at) every
- marṣadin
- مَرْصَدٍۚ
- place of ambush
- fa-in
- فَإِن
- But if
- tābū
- تَابُوا۟
- they repent
- wa-aqāmū
- وَأَقَامُوا۟
- and establish
- l-ṣalata
- ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
- the prayer
- waātawū
- وَءَاتَوُا۟
- and give
- l-zakata
- ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ
- the zakah
- fakhallū
- فَخَلُّوا۟
- then leave
- sabīlahum
- سَبِيلَهُمْۚ
- their way
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- ghafūrun
- غَفُورٌ
- (is) Oft-Forgiving
- raḥīmun
- رَّحِيمٌ
- Most Merciful
And when the inviolable months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give Zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 5)Tafsir
وَاِنْ اَحَدٌ مِّنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ اسْتَجَارَكَ فَاَجِرْهُ حَتّٰى يَسْمَعَ كَلٰمَ اللّٰهِ ثُمَّ اَبْلِغْهُ مَأْمَنَهٗ ۗذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَعْلَمُوْنَ ࣖ ٦
- wa-in
- وَإِنْ
- And if
- aḥadun
- أَحَدٌ
- anyone
- mina
- مِّنَ
- of
- l-mush'rikīna
- ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
- the polytheists
- is'tajāraka
- ٱسْتَجَارَكَ
- seek your protection
- fa-ajir'hu
- فَأَجِرْهُ
- then grant him protection
- ḥattā
- حَتَّىٰ
- until
- yasmaʿa
- يَسْمَعَ
- he hears
- kalāma
- كَلَٰمَ
- (the) Words of Allah
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (the) Words of Allah
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- Then
- abligh'hu
- أَبْلِغْهُ
- escort him
- mamanahu
- مَأْمَنَهُۥۚ
- (to) his place of safety
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- That
- bi-annahum
- بِأَنَّهُمْ
- (is) because they
- qawmun
- قَوْمٌ
- (are) a people
- lā
- لَّا
- (who) do not know
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- (who) do not know
And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allah [i.e., the Quran]. Then deliver him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 6)Tafsir
كَيْفَ يَكُوْنُ لِلْمُشْرِكِيْنَ عَهْدٌ عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ وَعِنْدَ رَسُوْلِهٖٓ اِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ عَاهَدْتُّمْ عِنْدَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِۚ فَمَا اسْتَقَامُوْا لَكُمْ فَاسْتَقِيْمُوْا لَهُمْ ۗاِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ ٧

- كَيْفَ
- How
- yakūnu
- يَكُونُ
- can (there) be
- lil'mush'rikīna
- لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ
- for the polytheists
- ʿahdun
- عَهْدٌ
- a covenant
- ʿinda
- عِندَ
- with
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- waʿinda
- وَعِندَ
- and with
- rasūlihi
- رَسُولِهِۦٓ
- His Messenger
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those (with) whom
- ʿāhadttum
- عَٰهَدتُّمْ
- you made a treaty
- ʿinda
- عِندَ
- near
- l-masjidi
- ٱلْمَسْجِدِ
- Al-Masjid?
- l-ḥarāmi
- ٱلْحَرَامِۖ
- Al-Haraam?
- famā
- فَمَا
- So long as
- is'taqāmū
- ٱسْتَقَٰمُوا۟
- they are upright
- lakum
- لَكُمْ
- to you
- fa-is'taqīmū
- فَٱسْتَقِيمُوا۟
- then you be upright
- lahum
- لَهُمْۚ
- to them
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- yuḥibbu
- يُحِبُّ
- loves
- l-mutaqīna
- ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
- the righteous
How can there be for the polytheists a treaty in the sight of Allah and with His Messenger, except for those with whom you made a treaty at al-Masjid al-Haram? So as long as they are upright toward you, be upright toward them. Indeed, Allah loves the righteous [who fear Him]. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 7)Tafsir
كَيْفَ وَاِنْ يَّظْهَرُوْا عَلَيْكُمْ لَا يَرْقُبُوْا فِيْكُمْ اِلًّا وَّلَا ذِمَّةً ۗيُرْضُوْنَكُمْ بِاَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَتَأْبٰى قُلُوْبُهُمْۚ وَاَكْثَرُهُمْ فٰسِقُوْنَۚ ٨
- kayfa
- كَيْفَ
- How
- wa-in
- وَإِن
- while, if
- yaẓharū
- يَظْهَرُوا۟
- they gain dominance
- ʿalaykum
- عَلَيْكُمْ
- over you
- lā
- لَا
- they do not regard (the ties)
- yarqubū
- يَرْقُبُوا۟
- they do not regard (the ties)
- fīkum
- فِيكُمْ
- with you
- illan
- إِلًّا
- (of) kinship
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- dhimmatan
- ذِمَّةًۚ
- covenant of protection?
- yur'ḍūnakum
- يُرْضُونَكُم
- They satisfy you
- bi-afwāhihim
- بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ
- with their mouths
- watabā
- وَتَأْبَىٰ
- but refuse
- qulūbuhum
- قُلُوبُهُمْ
- their hearts
- wa-aktharuhum
- وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ
- and most of them
- fāsiqūna
- فَٰسِقُونَ
- (are) defiantly disobedient
How [can there be a treaty] while, if they gain dominance over you, they do not observe concerning you any pact of kinship or covenant of protection? They satisfy you with their mouths, but their hearts refuse [compliance], and most of them are defiantly disobedient. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 8)Tafsir
اِشْتَرَوْا بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيْلًا فَصَدُّوْا عَنْ سَبِيْلِهٖۗ اِنَّهُمْ سَاۤءَ مَاكَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ٩
- ish'taraw
- ٱشْتَرَوْا۟
- They exchange
- biāyāti
- بِـَٔايَٰتِ
- [with] the Verses of Allah
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- [with] the Verses of Allah
- thamanan
- ثَمَنًا
- (for) a little price
- qalīlan
- قَلِيلًا
- (for) a little price
- faṣaddū
- فَصَدُّوا۟
- and they hinder (people)
- ʿan
- عَن
- from
- sabīlihi
- سَبِيلِهِۦٓۚ
- His way
- innahum
- إِنَّهُمْ
- Indeed
- sāa
- سَآءَ
- evil
- mā
- مَا
- (is) what
- kānū
- كَانُوا۟
- they used to
- yaʿmalūna
- يَعْمَلُونَ
- do
They have exchanged the signs of Allah for a small price and averted [people] from His way. Indeed, it was evil that they were doing. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 9)Tafsir
لَا يَرْقُبُوْنَ فِيْ مُؤْمِنٍ اِلًّا وَّلَا ذِمَّةً ۗوَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ الْمُعْتَدُوْنَ ١٠

- يَرْقُبُونَ
- they respect (the ties)
- fī
- فِى
- towards
- mu'minin
- مُؤْمِنٍ
- a believer
- illan
- إِلًّا
- (of) kinship
- walā
- وَلَا
- and not
- dhimmatan
- ذِمَّةًۚ
- covenant of protection
- wa-ulāika
- وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
- And those
- humu
- هُمُ
- [they]
- l-muʿ'tadūna
- ٱلْمُعْتَدُونَ
- (are) the transgressors
They do not observe toward a believer any pact of kinship or covenant of protection. And it is they who are the transgressors. (QS. [9] At-Tawbah: 10)Tafsir
