Al-Qur'an Surah Al-A'la Verse 16

Al-A'la [87]: 16 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

بَلْ تُؤْثِرُوْنَ الْحَيٰوةَ الدُّنْيَاۖ (الأعلى : ٨٧)

بَلْ
Nay!
tu'thirūna
تُؤْثِرُونَ
You prefer
l-ḥayata
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ
the life
l-dun'yā
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world

Transliteration:

Bal tu'siroonal hayaatad dunyaa (QS. al-ʾAʿlā:16)

English / Sahih Translation:

But you prefer the worldly life, (QS. Al-A'la, ayah 16)

Nay, but you prefer (or read yu'thirna, `they prefer') the life of this world, to the Hereafter,

Rather you prefer the life of this world.

meaning, `you give it precedence over the matter of the Hereafter, and you prefer it because of what it contains of usefulness and benefit for you in livelihood, and your returns (i.e., income, profitable gain).'
