meaning, they will be overcome and covered with Qatarah, which is darkness.

Ibn `Abbas said,
تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ


"This means that they (the faces) will be overcome with darkness."

Allah said,

أُوْلَيِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ
