وَاِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِمْ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالُوْا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا لَوْ نَشَاۤءُ لَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ هٰذَآ ۙاِنْ هٰذَآ اِلَّآ اَسَاطِيْرُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ ٣١
- wa-idhā
- وَإِذَا
- And when
- tut'lā
- تُتْلَىٰ
- are recited
- ʿalayhim
- عَلَيْهِمْ
- to them
- āyātunā
- ءَايَٰتُنَا
- Our Verses
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- they say
- qad
- قَدْ
- "Verily
- samiʿ'nā
- سَمِعْنَا
- we have heard
- law
- لَوْ
- if
- nashāu
- نَشَآءُ
- we wish
- laqul'nā
- لَقُلْنَا
- surely, we could say
- mith'la
- مِثْلَ
- like
- hādhā
- هَٰذَآۙ
- this
- in
- إِنْ
- Not
- hādhā
- هَٰذَآ
- is this
- illā
- إِلَّآ
- but
- asāṭīru
- أَسَٰطِيرُ
- tales
- l-awalīna
- ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
- (of) the former (people)"
And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples." (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 31)Tafsir
وَاِذْ قَالُوا اللهم اِنْ كَانَ هٰذَا هُوَ الْحَقَّ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ فَاَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةً مِّنَ السَّمَاۤءِ اَوِ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ اَلِيْمٍ ٣٢
- wa-idh
- وَإِذْ
- And when
- qālū
- قَالُوا۟
- they said
- l-lahuma
- ٱللَّهُمَّ
- "O Allah!
- in
- إِن
- If
- kāna
- كَانَ
- was
- hādhā
- هَٰذَا
- this
- huwa
- هُوَ
- [it]
- l-ḥaqa
- ٱلْحَقَّ
- the truth
- min
- مِنْ
- [of]
- ʿindika
- عِندِكَ
- from You
- fa-amṭir
- فَأَمْطِرْ
- then (send) rain
- ʿalaynā
- عَلَيْنَا
- upon us
- ḥijāratan
- حِجَارَةً
- (of) stones
- mina
- مِّنَ
- from
- l-samāi
- ٱلسَّمَآءِ
- the sky
- awi
- أَوِ
- or
- i'tinā
- ٱئْتِنَا
- bring (upon) us
- biʿadhābin
- بِعَذَابٍ
- a punishment
- alīmin
- أَلِيمٍ
- painful"
And [remember] when they said, "O Allah, if this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment." (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 32)Tafsir
وَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَاَنْتَ فِيْهِمْۚ وَمَا كَانَ اللّٰهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوْنَ ٣٣
- wamā
- وَمَا
- But not
- kāna
- كَانَ
- is
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- (for) Allah
- liyuʿadhibahum
- لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ
- that He punishes them
- wa-anta
- وَأَنتَ
- while you
- fīhim
- فِيهِمْۚ
- (are) among them
- wamā
- وَمَا
- and not
- kāna
- كَانَ
- is
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- muʿadhibahum
- مُعَذِّبَهُمْ
- the One Who punishes them
- wahum
- وَهُمْ
- while they
- yastaghfirūna
- يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
- seek forgiveness
But Allah would not punish them while you, [O Muhammad], are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness. (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 33)Tafsir
وَمَا لَهُمْ اَلَّا يُعَذِّبَهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَهُمْ يَصُدُّوْنَ عَنِ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَمَا كَانُوْٓا اَوْلِيَاۤءَهٗۗ اِنْ اَوْلِيَاۤؤُهٗٓ اِلَّا الْمُتَّقُوْنَ وَلٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُوْنَ ٣٤
- wamā
- وَمَا
- But what
- lahum
- لَهُمْ
- (is) for them
- allā
- أَلَّا
- that not
- yuʿadhibahumu
- يُعَذِّبَهُمُ
- (should) punish them
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- wahum
- وَهُمْ
- while they
- yaṣuddūna
- يَصُدُّونَ
- hinder (people)
- ʿani
- عَنِ
- from
- l-masjidi
- ٱلْمَسْجِدِ
- Al-Masjid
- l-ḥarāmi
- ٱلْحَرَامِ
- Al-Haraam
- wamā
- وَمَا
- while not
- kānū
- كَانُوٓا۟
- they are
- awliyāahu
- أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥٓۚ
- its guardians?
- in
- إِنْ
- Not (can be)
- awliyāuhu
- أَوْلِيَآؤُهُۥٓ
- its guardians
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- l-mutaqūna
- ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ
- the ones who fear Allah
- walākinna
- وَلَٰكِنَّ
- but
- aktharahum
- أَكْثَرَهُمْ
- most of them
- lā
- لَا
- (do) not
- yaʿlamūna
- يَعْلَمُونَ
- know
But why should Allah not punish them while they obstruct [people] from al-Masjid al-Haram and they were not [fit to be] its guardians? Its [true] guardians are not but the righteous, but most of them do not know. (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 34)Tafsir
وَمَا كَانَ صَلَاتُهُمْ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ اِلَّا مُكَاۤءً وَّتَصْدِيَةًۗ فَذُوْقُوا الْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْفُرُوْنَ ٣٥
- wamā
- وَمَا
- And not
- kāna
- كَانَ
- was
- ṣalātuhum
- صَلَاتُهُمْ
- their prayer
- ʿinda
- عِندَ
- at
- l-bayti
- ٱلْبَيْتِ
- the House
- illā
- إِلَّا
- except
- mukāan
- مُكَآءً
- whistling
- wataṣdiyatan
- وَتَصْدِيَةًۚ
- and clapping
- fadhūqū
- فَذُوقُوا۟
- So taste
- l-ʿadhāba
- ٱلْعَذَابَ
- the punishment
- bimā
- بِمَا
- because
- kuntum
- كُنتُمْ
- you used to
- takfurūna
- تَكْفُرُونَ
- disbelieve
And their prayer at the House [i.e., the Ka’bah] was not except whistling and handclapping. So taste the punishment for what you disbelieved [i.e., practiced of deviations]. (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 35)Tafsir
اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا يُنْفِقُوْنَ اَمْوَالَهُمْ لِيَصُدُّوْا عَنْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ ۗفَسَيُنْفِقُوْنَهَا ثُمَّ تَكُوْنُ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسْرَةً ثُمَّ يُغْلَبُوْنَ ەۗ وَالَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْٓا اِلٰى جَهَنَّمَ يُحْشَرُوْنَۙ ٣٦
- inna
- إِنَّ
- Indeed
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- those who
- kafarū
- كَفَرُوا۟
- disbelieve
- yunfiqūna
- يُنفِقُونَ
- they spend
- amwālahum
- أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ
- their wealth
- liyaṣuddū
- لِيَصُدُّوا۟
- to hinder (people)
- ʿan
- عَن
- from
- sabīli
- سَبِيلِ
- (the) way
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِۚ
- (of) Allah
- fasayunfiqūnahā
- فَسَيُنفِقُونَهَا
- So they will spend it
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- then
- takūnu
- تَكُونُ
- it will be
- ʿalayhim
- عَلَيْهِمْ
- for them
- ḥasratan
- حَسْرَةً
- a regret
- thumma
- ثُمَّ
- then
- yugh'labūna
- يُغْلَبُونَۗ
- they will be overcome
- wa-alladhīna
- وَٱلَّذِينَ
- And those who
- kafarū
- كَفَرُوٓا۟
- disbelieve
- ilā
- إِلَىٰ
- to
- jahannama
- جَهَنَّمَ
- Hell
- yuḥ'sharūna
- يُحْشَرُونَ
- they will be gathered
Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allah. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved – unto Hell they will be gathered. (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 36)Tafsir
لِيَمِيْزَ اللّٰهُ الْخَبِيْثَ مِنَ الطَّيِّبِ وَيَجْعَلَ الْخَبِيْثَ بَعْضَهٗ عَلٰى بَعْضٍ فَيَرْكُمَهٗ جَمِيْعًا فَيَجْعَلَهٗ فِيْ جَهَنَّمَۗ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ الْخٰسِرُوْنَ ࣖ ٣٧
- liyamīza
- لِيَمِيزَ
- That may distinguish
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- l-khabītha
- ٱلْخَبِيثَ
- the wicked
- mina
- مِنَ
- from
- l-ṭayibi
- ٱلطَّيِّبِ
- the good
- wayajʿala
- وَيَجْعَلَ
- and place
- l-khabītha
- ٱلْخَبِيثَ
- the wicked
- baʿḍahu
- بَعْضَهُۥ
- some of them
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- on
- baʿḍin
- بَعْضٍ
- others
- fayarkumahu
- فَيَرْكُمَهُۥ
- and heap them
- jamīʿan
- جَمِيعًا
- all together
- fayajʿalahu
- فَيَجْعَلَهُۥ
- and put them
- fī
- فِى
- in
- jahannama
- جَهَنَّمَۚ
- Hell
- ulāika
- أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
- Those
- humu
- هُمُ
- they
- l-khāsirūna
- ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ
- (are) the losers
[It is] so that Allah may distinguish the wicked from the good and place the wicked some of them upon others and heap them all together and put them into Hell. It is those who are the losers. (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 37)Tafsir
قُلْ لِّلَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْٓا اِنْ يَّنْتَهُوْا يُغْفَرْ لَهُمْ مَّا قَدْ سَلَفَۚ وَاِنْ يَّعُوْدُوْا فَقَدْ مَضَتْ سُنَّتُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ ٣٨
- qul
- قُل
- Say
- lilladhīna
- لِّلَّذِينَ
- to those who
- kafarū
- كَفَرُوٓا۟
- disbelieve
- in
- إِن
- if
- yantahū
- يَنتَهُوا۟
- they cease
- yugh'far
- يُغْفَرْ
- will be forgiven
- lahum
- لَهُم
- for them
- mā
- مَّا
- what
- qad
- قَدْ
- [verily]
- salafa
- سَلَفَ
- (is) past
- wa-in
- وَإِن
- But if
- yaʿūdū
- يَعُودُوا۟
- they return
- faqad
- فَقَدْ
- then verily
- maḍat
- مَضَتْ
- preceded
- sunnatu
- سُنَّتُ
- (the) practice
- l-awalīna
- ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
- (of) the former (people)
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] – then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place. (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 38)Tafsir
وَقَاتِلُوْهُمْ حَتّٰى لَا تَكُوْنَ فِتْنَةٌ وَّيَكُوْنَ الدِّيْنُ كُلُّهٗ لِلّٰهِۚ فَاِنِ انْتَهَوْا فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُوْنَ بَصِيْرٌ ٣٩
- waqātilūhum
- وَقَٰتِلُوهُمْ
- And fight them
- ḥattā
- حَتَّىٰ
- until
- lā
- لَا
- not
- takūna
- تَكُونَ
- there is
- fit'natun
- فِتْنَةٌ
- oppression
- wayakūna
- وَيَكُونَ
- and is
- l-dīnu
- ٱلدِّينُ
- the religion
- kulluhu
- كُلُّهُۥ
- all of it
- lillahi
- لِلَّهِۚ
- for Allah
- fa-ini
- فَإِنِ
- But if
- intahaw
- ٱنتَهَوْا۟
- they ceased
- fa-inna
- فَإِنَّ
- then indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- bimā
- بِمَا
- of what
- yaʿmalūna
- يَعْمَلُونَ
- they do
- baṣīrun
- بَصِيرٌ
- (is) All-Seer
And fight against them until there is no fitnah and [until] the religion [i.e., worship], all of it, is for Allah. And if they cease – then indeed, Allah is Seeing of what they do. (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 39)Tafsir
وَاِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَاعْلَمُوْٓا اَنَّ اللّٰهَ مَوْلٰىكُمْ ۗنِعْمَ الْمَوْلٰى وَنِعْمَ النَّصِيْرُ ۔ ٤٠
- wa-in
- وَإِن
- And if
- tawallaw
- تَوَلَّوْا۟
- they turn away
- fa-iʿ'lamū
- فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟
- then know
- anna
- أَنَّ
- that
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- mawlākum
- مَوْلَىٰكُمْۚ
- (is) your Protector
- niʿ'ma
- نِعْمَ
- Excellent
- l-mawlā
- ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ
- (is) the Protector
- waniʿ'ma
- وَنِعْمَ
- and Excellent
- l-naṣīru
- ٱلنَّصِيرُ
- (is) the Helper
But if they turn away – then know that Allah is your protector. Excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper. (QS. [8] Al-Anfal: 40)Tafsir
