Al-Qur'an Surah An-Naba Verse 33

An-Naba [78]: 33 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَّكَوَاعِبَ اَتْرَابًاۙ (النبإ : ٧٨)

wakawāʿiba
وَكَوَاعِبَ
And splendid companions
atrāban
أَتْرَابًا
well-matched

Transliteration:

Wa kaawa 'iba at raaba (QS. an-Nabaʾ:33)

English / Sahih Translation:

And full-breasted [companions] of equal age. (QS. An-Naba, ayah 33)

and buxom maidens of matching age,

Tafsir jalalayn

and buxom maidens (kaw`ib is the plural of k`ib) of equal age (atrb is the plural of tirb),

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

And vineyards, and Kawa`ib Atrab,

meaning, wide-eyed maidens with fully developed breasts.

Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid and others have said,
كَواعِبَ
(Kawa`ib)

"This means round breasts. They meant by this that the breasts of these girls will be fully rounded and not sagging, because they will be virgins, equal in age. This means that they will only have one age."

The explanation of this has already been mentioned in Surah Al-Waqi`ah.

Concerning Allah's statement,

وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا
