Al-Qur'an Surah An-Naba Verse 10

An-Naba [78]: 10 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَّجَعَلْنَا الَّيْلَ لِبَاسًاۙ (النبإ : ٧٨)

wajaʿalnā
وَجَعَلْنَا
And We made
al-layla
ٱلَّيْلَ
the night
libāsan
لِبَاسًا
(as) covering

Transliteration:

Waja'alnal laila libasa (QS. an-Nabaʾ:10)

English / Sahih Translation:

And made the night as clothing. (QS. An-Naba, ayah 10)

and made the night a cloak?, to cover you with its darkness,

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

And We have made the night as a covering,

meaning, its shade and darkness covers the people.

This is as Allah says,

وَالَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَـهَا

By the night as it conceals it. (91;4)

Qatadah commented;
وَجَعَلْنَا الَّيْلَ لِبَاساً
meaning, a tranquil residence.

Concerning Allah's statement,

وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا
