Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Mursalat Verse 1

Al-Mursalat [77]: 1 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَالْمُرْسَلٰتِ عُرْفًاۙ (المرسلات : ٧٧)

wal-mur'salāti
وَٱلْمُرْسَلَٰتِ
By the ones sent forth
ʿur'fan
عُرْفًا
one after another

Transliteration:

Wal mursalaati'urfaa (QS. al-Mursalāt:1)

English / Sahih Translation:

By those [winds] sent forth in gusts (QS. Al-Mursalat, ayah 1)

(I swear) by those (winds) that are sent one after the other,

Tafsir jalalayn

By those sent in succession (`urfan), that is, [by] the winds that follow [one another] in succession, like the mane (`urf) of a horse, one part [of hair] coming after the other (`urfan is in the accusative because it is a circumstantial qualifier);

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Allah's swearing by Different Creatures about the Occurrence of the Hereafter

Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Abu Hurayrah said,

وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا




By the Mursalat `Urfa.

"The angels"

From Masruq, Abu Ad-Duha, Mujahid in one narrations from him, As-Suddi and Ar-Rabi` bin Anas, statements similar to this have been reported.

It has been reported from Abu Salih that he said,

"These are the Messengers."

In another narration from him (Abu Salih) he said that it means the angels.

فَالْعَاصِفَاتِ عَصْفًا
