Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Insan Verse 9

Al-Insan [76]: 9 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

اِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللّٰهِ لَا نُرِيْدُ مِنْكُمْ جَزَاۤءً وَّلَا شُكُوْرًا (الانسان : ٧٦)

innamā

Transliteration:

Innaamaa nut'imukum li wajhil laahi laa nureedu minkum jazaaa'anw wa laa shukooraa (QS. al-ʾInsān:9)

English / Sahih Translation:

[Saying], "We feed you only for the face [i.e., approval] of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. (QS. Al-Insan, ayah 9)

(saying to them,) “We feed you only for the sake of Allah; we have no intention of (receiving) either a return from you or thanks.

˹saying to themselves,˺ “We feed you only for the sake of Allah, seeking neither reward nor thanks from you.

“We only feed you for the sake of God. We want from you neither compensation, nor gratitude.

Tafsir jalalayn

`We feed you only for the sake of God, seeking His reward. We do not desire any reward from you, nor any thanks; this contains the reason for the giving of the food. Now, do they actually say this, or is it that God knows this [to be true] of them and has thus praised them by [mentioning] it? The two are different opinions [regarding this matter].

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ

We feed you seeking Allah's Face only.

meaning, hoping for the reward of Allah and His pleasure.

لَاا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَاء وَلَاا شُكُورًا




We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you.

meaning, `we do not seek any reward from you in return for it. We also are not seeking for you to thank us in front of the people.'

Mujahid and Sa`id bin Jubayr both said,

"By Allah! They do not say this with their tongues, but rather, Allah knows it in their hearts and He commends them for it. Every seeker should seek after this."

إِنَّا نَخَافُ مِن رَّبِّنَا يَوْمًا عَبُوسًا قَمْطَرِيرًا
