Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Muddaththir Verse 16

Al-Muddaththir [74]: 16 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

كَلَّاۗ اِنَّهٗ كَانَ لِاٰيٰتِنَا عَنِيْدًاۗ (المدثر : ٧٤)

kallā
كَلَّآۖ
By no means!
innahu
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed he
kāna
كَانَ
has been
liāyātinā
لِءَايَٰتِنَا
to Our Verses
ʿanīdan
عَنِيدًا
stubborn

Transliteration:

Kallaaa innahoo kaana li Aayaatinaa 'aneedaa (QS. al-Muddathir:16)

English / Sahih Translation:

No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. (QS. Al-Muddaththir, ayah 16)

Never! He is inimical towards Our verses.

But no! ˹For˺ he has been truly stubborn with Our revelations.

By no means! He was stubborn towards Our revelations.

Tafsir jalalayn

Nay!, I shall not give him more than that. He is indeed stubborn to Our signs, [to] the Qur'n.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

After all that he desires that I should give more.

Nay! Verily, he has been opposing Our Ayat.

meaning, obstinate.

This refers to his ungratefulness for his blessings after knowing (these blessings).

Allah says,

سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا
