Tafsir jalalayn

with their eyes humbled, abject, overcast by abasement, shrouded in it. Such is the day which they are promised (dhlika is the subject and what follows it is the predicate), meaning; the Day of Resurrection. Meccan, consisting of 28 or 29 verses.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُ

With their eyes lowered in fear,

meaning humbled.

هُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ

covering them with humility.

meaning, in return for how they behaved arrogantly in the worldly life by refusing to be obedient (to Allah).

ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ




That is the Day which they were promised!
