Al-A'raf [7]: 92 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

الَّذِيْنَ كَذَّبُوْا شُعَيْبًا كَاَنْ لَّمْ يَغْنَوْا فِيْهَاۚ اَلَّذِيْنَ كَذَّبُوْا شُعَيْبًا كَانُوْا هُمُ الْخٰسِرِيْنَ (الأعراف : ٧)

Transliteration:

Allazeena kazzaboo Shu'aiban ka al alm yaghnaw feehaa; allazeena kazzaboo Shu'aiban kaanoo humul khaasireen (QS. al-ʾAʿrāf:92)

English / Sahih Translation:

Those who denied Shuaib – it was as though they had never resided there. Those who denied Shuaib – it was they who were the losers. (QS. Al-A'raf, ayah 92)

Those who rejected Shu‘aib became as if they never dwelt there. Those who rejected Shu‘aib were themselves the losers.

English Literal

Those who denied Shu`aib were as if/as though they did not inhabit it/enrich/avail in it, those who denied Shu`aib were, they were the losers .

Tafsir jalalayn

Those who denied Shu`ayb (alladhna kadhdhab Shu`ayban, this constitutes the subject [of the sentence], the predicate of which is [introduced by the following ka-an, `as if']), it is as if (ka-an, has been softened, its subject omitted, in other words [understand it as] ka-annahum) they had never dwelt, [never] had residence, there, in those dwelling-places of theirs; those who denied Shu`ayb, they were the losers (the emphasis effected by the repetition of the relative clause [alladhna kadhdhab Shu`ayban, `those who denied Shu`ayb'] and what follows it is intended as a refutation of what they had said previously [sc. `if you follow Shu`ayb, you shall indeed be losers']).

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ شُعَيْبًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَغْنَوْاْ فِيهَا

Those who belied Shu`ayb, became as if they had never dwelt there (in their homes).

meaning, after the torment seized them, it looked as if they never dwelled in the land from which they wanted to expel their Messenger Shu`ayb and his followers.

Here, Allah refuted their earlier statement,

الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ شُعَيْبًا كَانُواْ هُمُ الْخَاسِرِينَ



Those who belied Shu`ayb, they were the losers.
