Al-Qur'an Surah Al-A'raf Verse 77

Then they slaughtered the she-camel and defied the command of their Lord and said, “O SāliH, bring to us what you threaten us with, if you are one of the messengers.

English Literal

So they wounded/slaughtered/made the female camel infertile and they became arrogant/disobedient from their Lord`s order/command, and they said: "You Saleh, come/bring to us with what you promise us if you are from the messengers."

Tafsir jalalayn

The she-camel was given the water one day and then, another; but they soon tired of this; So they hamstrung the she-camel -- Qudr hamstrung her by their command, killing her with a sword -- and flouted the commandment of their Lord, and said, `O Slih, bring upon us that which you promised us, in the way of chastisement for [our] killing it, if you are indeed a messenger'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

فَعَقَرُواْ النَّاقَةَ



So they killed the she-camel,

Therefore, these Ayat stated that the entire tribe shared in agreeing to this crime, and Allah knows best.

وَعَتَوْاْ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ وَقَالُواْ يَا صَالِحُ ايْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ



and insolently defied the commandment of their Lord, and said;"O Salih! Bring about your threats if you are indeed one of the Messengers (of Allah)."


فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الرَّجْفَةُ فَأَصْبَحُواْ فِي دَارِهِمْ جَاثِمِينَ
