Al-Qur'an Surah Al-A'raf Verse 60

Al-A'raf [7]: 60 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالَ الْمَلَاُ مِنْ قَوْمِهٖٓ اِنَّا لَنَرٰىكَ فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِيْنٍ (الأعراف : ٧)

Transliteration:

Qaalal mala-u min qaw miheee innaa lanaraaka fee dalaalim mubeen (QS. al-ʾAʿrāf:60)

English / Sahih Translation:

Said the eminent among his people, "Indeed, we see you in clear error." (QS. Al-A'raf, ayah 60)

The chiefs of his people said, “Indeed we see you in an obvious error.”

The elders of his people replied: "We see clearly that you have gone astray."

The leaders of his people said, “Indeed we see you in open error.”

The elite of his people said, ‘Indeed we see you in manifest error.’

The leading ones among his people said: "We see that you are surely lost in obvious error."

The chiefs of his people said, `Surely, we see you steeped in evident error.´

The nobles/assembly from his nation said: "We , we are seeing you (E) in evident misguidance."

The leaders of his people said, "Indeed we see you in open error."

Said the chiefs of his people, "Verily, we do surely see you in obvious error."

The leaders of his people said: "Verily, we see you in plain error."

Certainly We sent Noah to his people, so he said: O my people, serve Allah, you have no god other than Him. Indeed I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day.

The dignitaries among his people said, “We see that you are in obvious error.”

Tafsir jalalayn

The council, of the respected elders, of his people, said; `Truly We see you in manifest error'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالَ الْمَلُ مِن قَوْمِهِ

The leaders of his people said;

meaning, the general public, chiefs, commanders and great ones of his people said,

إِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِي ضَلَلٍ مُّبِينٍ



"Verily, we see you in plain error."

because of your calling us to abandon the worship of these idols that we found our forefathers worshipping.

This, indeed, is the attitude of evil people, for they consider the righteous people to be following misguidance. Allah said in other Ayat,

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُواْ إِنَّ هَـوُلَاءِ لَضَألُّونَ

And when they saw them, they said;"Verily, these have indeed gone astray!" (83;32)

and,

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَوْ كَانَ خَيْراً مَّا سَبَقُونَأ إِلَيْهِ وَإِذْ لَمْ يَهْتَدُواْ بِهِ فَسَيَقُولُونَ هَـذَا إِفْكٌ قَدِيمٌ

And those who disbelieve say of those who believe;"Had it been a good thing, they (the weak and poor) would not have preceded us thereto!" And when they have not let themselves be guided by it (this Qur'an), they say;"This is an ancient lie!" (46;11)

There are several other Ayat on this subject.

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ لَيْسَ بِي ضَلَلَةٌ وَلَكِنِّي رَسُولٌ مِّن رَّبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
