Al-Qur'an Surah Al-A'raf Verse 34

Al-A'raf [7]: 34 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَلِكُلِّ اُمَّةٍ اَجَلٌۚ فَاِذَا جَاۤءَ اَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُوْنَ سَاعَةً وَّلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُوْنَ (الأعراف : ٧)

walikulli
وَلِكُلِّ
And for every
ummatin
أُمَّةٍ
nation
ajalun
أَجَلٌۖ
(is a fixed) term
fa-idhā
فَإِذَا
So when
jāa
جَآءَ
comes
ajaluhum
أَجَلُهُمْ
their term
لَا
(they can) not
yastakhirūna
يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ
seek to delay
sāʿatan
سَاعَةًۖ
an hour
walā
وَلَا
and not
yastaqdimūna
يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ
seek to advance (it)

Transliteration:

Wa likulli ummatin ajalun fa izaa jaaa'a ajaluhum laa yastaakhiroona saa'atanw wa laa yastaqdimoon (QS. al-ʾAʿrāf:34)

English / Sahih Translation:

And for every nation is a [specified] term. So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it]. (QS. Al-A'raf, ayah 34)

Tafsir jalalayn

Every community has a term, a [finite] period of time. When their term comes they shall not delay it a single hour nor bring it forward.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Allah said,

وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ

And every Ummah has,

meaning, each generation and nation,

أَجَلٌ فَإِذَا جَاء أَجَلُهُمْ

its appointed term; when their term comes,

which they were destined for,

لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ



neither can they delay it nor can they advance it an hour (or a moment)
