Al-Qur'an Surah Al-A'raf Verse 23

Al-A'raf [7]: 23 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَآ اَنْفُسَنَا وَاِنْ لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُوْنَنَّ مِنَ الْخٰسِرِيْنَ (الأعراف : ٧)

qālā
قَالَا: Both of them said

rabbanā
رَبَّنَا: "Our Lord

ẓalamnā
ظَلَمْنَآ: we have wronged

anfusanā
أَنفُسَنَا: ourselves

wa-in
وَإِن: and if

lam
لَّمْ: not

taghfir
تَغْفِرْ: You forgive

lanā
لَنَا: [for] us

watarḥamnā
وَتَرْحَمْنَا: and have mercy (on) us

lanakūnanna
لَنَكُونَنَّ: surely we will be

mina
مِنَ: among

l-khāsirīna
ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ: the losers"

Transliteration:

Qaalaa Rabbanaa zalamnaaa anfusanaa wa illam taghfir lanaa wa tarhamnaa lanakoonanna minal khaasireen (QS. al-ʾAʿrāf:23)

English / Sahih Translation:

They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers." (QS. Al-A'raf, ayah 23)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

They said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and do not bless us with mercy, we shall, indeed, be among the losers.

They replied, “Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will certainly be losers.”

Both of them said, `Our Lord! we have done injustice to our souls, and if You do not protect us (against the consequences of our faults) and do not have mercy on us, we shall surely be of the losers.´

They (B) said: "Our Lord, We caused injustice/oppressed ourselves, and if You do not forgive for us, and You have mercy upon us, we will be/become from the losers ."

They both submitted, "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves; so if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, then surely, we are of the losers."

They said, “Our Lord, we have done wrong to ourselves. Unless You forgive us, and have mercy on us, we will be among the losers.”

Tafsir jalalayn

They said, `Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, by our act of disobedience, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we shall surely be among the lost'.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

قَالَا

They said;

رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

"Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers."

Ad-Dahhak bin Muzahim commented,

"These are the words that Adam received from his Lord.
