Al-A'raf [7]: 2 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

كِتٰبٌ اُنْزِلَ اِلَيْكَ فَلَا يَكُنْ فِيْ صَدْرِكَ حَرَجٌ مِّنْهُ لِتُنْذِرَ بِهٖ وَذِكْرٰى لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ (الأعراف : ٧)

Transliteration:

Kitaabun unzila ilaika falaa yakum fee sadrika harajum minhu litunzira bihee wa zikraa lilmu'mineen (QS. al-ʾAʿrāf:2)

English / Sahih Translation:

[This is] a Book revealed to you, [O Muhammad] – so let there not be in your breast distress therefrom – that you may warn thereby and as a reminder to the believers. (QS. Al-A'raf, ayah 2)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

(This is) a book sent down to you. Therefore, your heart must not be straitened because of it. (It is revealed to you) so that you may warn through it, and it may be an advice for the believers.

˹This is˺ a Book sent down to you ˹O Prophet˺—do not let anxiety into your heart regarding it—so with it you may warn ˹the disbelievers˺, and as a reminder to the believers.

[This is] a Book that has been sent down to you—so let there be no disquiet in your heart on its account that you may warn thereby—and as an admonition for the faithful.

This is a Book sent down to you (O Messenger) – so let there be no tightness in your breast in respect of it (in conveying it to people and fearing that they may not believe in it) – that thereby you may warn (people against any deviation), and as an admonition and advice to the believers.

(This Qur´ân is) a (glorious) Book revealed to you that you may warn (the erring) therewith, and (that it may be) a source of eminence and honour to the believers. Let there be no constriction in your mind on this account .

English Literal

A Book was descended to you so no tightness/strain be in your chest (innermost) from it, to warn/give notice with it and a remembrance/reminder to the believers.

Tafsir jalalayn

This is, a Book that is revealed to you -- addressing the Prophet (s) -- so let there be no inhibition, [no] constraint, in your breast because of it, to convey it -- for fear that you might be called a liar -- that you may warn thereby (li-tundhira, `that you may warn', is semantically connected to unzila, `is revealed', that is to say, `[it is revealed] for [the purposes of] warning') and as a reminder for those who believe, in it.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

كِتَابٌ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ


(This is the) Book (the Qur'an) sent down unto you (O Muhammad),

from your Lord,

فَلَ يَكُن فِي صَدْرِكَ حَرَجٌ مِّنْهُ

so let not your breast be narrow therefrom,

According to Mujahid, Qatadah and As-Suddi,

meaning, having doubt about it.

It was also said that the meaning here is;

`do not hesitate to convey the Qur'an and warn with it,'

فَاصْبِرْ كَمَا صَبَرَ أُوْلُواْ الْعَزْمِ مِنَ الرُّسُلِ

Therefore be patient as did the Messengers of strong will. (46;35)

Allah said here,

لِتُنذِرَ بِهِ

that you warn thereby,

meaning, `We sent down the Qur'an so that you may warn the disbelievers with it,'

وَذِكْرَى لِلْمُوْمِنِينَ



and a reminder unto the believers.

Allah then said to the world
