Al-Qur'an Surah Al-A'raf Verse 147

Al-A'raf [7]: 147 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَالَّذِيْنَ كَذَّبُوْا بِاٰيٰتِنَا وَلِقَاۤءِ الْاٰخِرَةِ حَبِطَتْ اَعْمَالُهُمْۗ هَلْ يُجْزَوْنَ اِلَّا مَا كَانُوْا يَعْمَلُوْنَ ࣖ (الأعراف : ٧)

wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
And those who
kadhabū
كَذَّبُوا۟
denied
biāyātinā
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا
Our Signs
waliqāi
وَلِقَآءِ
and (the) meeting
l-ākhirati
ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
(of) the Hereafter -
ḥabiṭat
حَبِطَتْ
worthless
aʿmāluhum
أَعْمَٰلُهُمْۚ
(are) their deeds
hal
هَلْ
Will
yuj'zawna
يُجْزَوْنَ
they be recompensed
illā
إِلَّا
except
مَا
(for) what
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they used to
yaʿmalūna
يَعْمَلُونَ
do?

Transliteration:

Wallazeena kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa wa liqaaa'il Aakhirati habitat 'amaaluhum; hal yujzawna illaa maa kaanoo ya'maloon (QS. al-ʾAʿrāf:147)

English / Sahih Translation:

Those who denied Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter – their deeds have become worthless. Are they recompensed except for what they used to do? (QS. Al-A'raf, ayah 147)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Gone to waste are the deeds of those who have rejected Our signs and the meeting of the Hereafter. They will be recompensed only for what they have been doing.

English Literal

And those who denied with Our verses/evidences, and the end`s (other life`s) meeting, their deeds (were) wasted; are they being rewarded/reimbursed except (for) what they were making/doing?

And those who denied Our signs and the confronting of the Hereafter - all their deeds are wasted; what recompense will they get, except what they used to do?

I shall turn away from My messages those who are unjustly proud in the earth. And if they see every sign, they will not believe in it; and if they see the way of rectitude, they take it not for a way; and if they see the way of error, they take it for a way. This is because they reject Our messages and are heedless of them.

And (as to) those who reject Our communications and the meeting of the hereafter, their deeds are null. Shall they be rewarded except for what they have done?

The actions of those who denied Our signs and the Meeting of the Hereafter will come to nothing -- they shall be requited only, according to their deeds."

Those who deny Our revelations and the meeting of the Hereafter—their deeds will come to nothing. Will they be repaid except according to what they used to do?

Tafsir jalalayn

Those who deny Our signs and the encounter in the Hereafter, the Resurrection and so on. their works, the good deeds they performed in the world, such as the maintenance of kinship ties or voluntary almsgivings, have failed, are invalid, and will not be rewarded, since they are not binding [in this case]. Shall they, they shall not, be requited anything but, the requital [for], what they used to do?', in the way of denial and acts of disobedience?

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَالَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِأيَاتِنَا وَلِقَاء الاخِرَةِ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ

Those who deny Our Ayat and the meeting in the Hereafter, vain are their deeds.

indicates that whoever among them does this, remaining on this path until death, then all his deeds will be in vain.

Allah said next,

هَلْ يُجْزَوْنَ إِلاَّ مَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ



Are they requited with anything except what they used to do!

meaning, `We only recompense them according to the deeds that they performed, good for good and evil for evil. Surely, as you bring forth, you reap the harvest thereof.
