Surah Al-A'raf - Page: 3

(The Heights)

21

وَقَاسَمَهُمَآ اِنِّيْ لَكُمَا لَمِنَ النّٰصِحِيْنَۙ ٢١

waqāsamahumā
وَقَاسَمَهُمَآ
And he swore (to) both of them
innī
إِنِّى
"Indeed I am
lakumā
لَكُمَا
to both of you
lamina
لَمِنَ
among
l-nāṣiḥīna
ٱلنَّٰصِحِينَ
the sincere advisers"
And he swore [by Allah] to them, "Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors." (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 21)
Tafsir
22

فَدَلّٰىهُمَا بِغُرُورٍۚ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَا الشَّجَرَةَ بَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْاٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفٰنِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِنْ وَّرَقِ الْجَنَّةِۗ وَنَادٰىهُمَا رَبُّهُمَآ اَلَمْ اَنْهَكُمَا عَنْ تِلْكُمَا الشَّجَرَةِ وَاَقُلْ لَّكُمَآ اِنَّ الشَّيْطٰنَ لَكُمَا عَدُوٌّ مُّبِيْنٌ ٢٢

fadallāhumā
فَدَلَّىٰهُمَا
So he made both of them fall
bighurūrin
بِغُرُورٍۚ
by deception
falammā
فَلَمَّا
Then when
dhāqā
ذَاقَا
they both tasted
l-shajarata
ٱلشَّجَرَةَ
the tree
badat
بَدَتْ
became apparent
lahumā
لَهُمَا
to both of them
sawātuhumā
سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا
their shame
waṭafiqā
وَطَفِقَا
and they began
yakhṣifāni
يَخْصِفَانِ
(to) fasten
ʿalayhimā
عَلَيْهِمَا
over themselves
min
مِن
from
waraqi
وَرَقِ
(the) leaves
l-janati
ٱلْجَنَّةِۖ
(of) the Garden
wanādāhumā
وَنَادَىٰهُمَا
And called them both
rabbuhumā
رَبُّهُمَآ
their Lord
alam
أَلَمْ
"Did not
anhakumā
أَنْهَكُمَا
I forbid you both
ʿan
عَن
from
til'kumā
تِلْكُمَا
this
l-shajarati
ٱلشَّجَرَةِ
[the] tree
wa-aqul
وَأَقُل
and [I] say
lakumā
لَّكُمَآ
to both of you
inna
إِنَّ
that
l-shayṭāna
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنَ
[the] Shaitaan
lakumā
لَكُمَا
to both of you
ʿaduwwun
عَدُوٌّ
(is) an enemy?"
mubīnun
مُّبِينٌ
open?"
So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?" (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 22)
Tafsir
23

قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَآ اَنْفُسَنَا وَاِنْ لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُوْنَنَّ مِنَ الْخٰسِرِيْنَ ٢٣

qālā
قَالَا
Both of them said
rabbanā
رَبَّنَا
"Our Lord
ẓalamnā
ظَلَمْنَآ
we have wronged
anfusanā
أَنفُسَنَا
ourselves
wa-in
وَإِن
and if
lam
لَّمْ
not
taghfir
تَغْفِرْ
You forgive
lanā
لَنَا
[for] us
watarḥamnā
وَتَرْحَمْنَا
and have mercy (on) us
lanakūnanna
لَنَكُونَنَّ
surely we will be
mina
مِنَ
among
l-khāsirīna
ٱلْخَٰسِرِينَ
the losers"
They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers." (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 23)
Tafsir
24

قَالَ اهْبِطُوْا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۚوَلَكُمْ فِى الْاَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَّمَتَاعٌ اِلٰى حِيْنٍ ٢٤

qāla
قَالَ
(Allah) said
ih'biṭū
ٱهْبِطُوا۟
"Get down
baʿḍukum
بَعْضُكُمْ
some of you
libaʿḍin
لِبَعْضٍ
to some others
ʿaduwwun
عَدُوٌّۖ
(as) enemy
walakum
وَلَكُمْ
And for you
فِى
in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
mus'taqarrun
مُسْتَقَرٌّ
(is) a dwelling place
wamatāʿun
وَمَتَٰعٌ
and livelihood
ilā
إِلَىٰ
for
ḥīnin
حِينٍ
a time"
[Allah] said, "Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment [i.e., provision] for a time." (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 24)
Tafsir
25

قَالَ فِيْهَا تَحْيَوْنَ وَفِيْهَا تَمُوْتُوْنَ وَمِنْهَا تُخْرَجُوْنَ ࣖ ٢٥

qāla
قَالَ
He said
fīhā
فِيهَا
"In it
taḥyawna
تَحْيَوْنَ
you will live
wafīhā
وَفِيهَا
and in it
tamūtūna
تَمُوتُونَ
you will die
wamin'hā
وَمِنْهَا
and from it
tukh'rajūna
تُخْرَجُونَ
you will be brought forth"
He said, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be brought forth." (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 25)
Tafsir
26

يَا بَنِيْٓ اٰدَمَ قَدْ اَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ لِبَاسًا يُّوَارِيْ سَوْاٰتِكُمْ وَرِيْشًاۗ وَلِبَاسُ التَّقْوٰى ذٰلِكَ خَيْرٌۗ ذٰلِكَ مِنْ اٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُوْنَ ٢٦

yābanī
يَٰبَنِىٓ
O Children
ādama
ءَادَمَ
(of) Adam!
qad
قَدْ
Verily
anzalnā
أَنزَلْنَا
We have sent down
ʿalaykum
عَلَيْكُمْ
to you
libāsan
لِبَاسًا
clothing
yuwārī
يُوَٰرِى
it covers
sawātikum
سَوْءَٰتِكُمْ
your shame
warīshan
وَرِيشًاۖ
and (as) an adornment
walibāsu
وَلِبَاسُ
But the clothing
l-taqwā
ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ
(of) [the] righteousness
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
that
khayrun
خَيْرٌۚ
(is) best
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
min
مِنْ
(is) from
āyāti
ءَايَٰتِ
(the) Signs
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
laʿallahum
لَعَلَّهُمْ
so that they may
yadhakkarūna
يَذَّكَّرُونَ
remember
O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness – that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember. (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 26)
Tafsir
27

يٰبَنِيْٓ اٰدَمَ لَا يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطٰنُ كَمَآ اَخْرَجَ اَبَوَيْكُمْ مِّنَ الْجَنَّةِ يَنْزِعُ عَنْهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوْاٰتِهِمَا ۗاِنَّهٗ يَرٰىكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيْلُهٗ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْۗ اِنَّا جَعَلْنَا الشَّيٰطِيْنَ اَوْلِيَاۤءَ لِلَّذِيْنَ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَ ٢٧

yābanī
يَٰبَنِىٓ
O Children
ādama
ءَادَمَ
(of) Adam!
لَا
(Let) not
yaftinannakumu
يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ
tempt you
l-shayṭānu
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ
[the] Shaitaan
kamā
كَمَآ
as
akhraja
أَخْرَجَ
he drove out
abawaykum
أَبَوَيْكُم
your parents
mina
مِّنَ
from
l-janati
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
Paradise
yanziʿu
يَنزِعُ
stripping
ʿanhumā
عَنْهُمَا
from both of them
libāsahumā
لِبَاسَهُمَا
their clothing
liyuriyahumā
لِيُرِيَهُمَا
to show both of them
sawātihimā
سَوْءَٰتِهِمَآۗ
their shame
innahu
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed he
yarākum
يَرَىٰكُمْ
sees you -
huwa
هُوَ
he
waqabīluhu
وَقَبِيلُهُۥ
and his tribe
min
مِنْ
from
ḥaythu
حَيْثُ
where
لَا
not
tarawnahum
تَرَوْنَهُمْۗ
you see them
innā
إِنَّا
Indeed
jaʿalnā
جَعَلْنَا
We have made
l-shayāṭīna
ٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ
the devils
awliyāa
أَوْلِيَآءَ
friends
lilladhīna
لِلَّذِينَ
of those who
لَا
(do) not
yu'minūna
يُؤْمِنُونَ
believe
O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe. (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 27)
Tafsir
28

وَاِذَا فَعَلُوْا فَاحِشَةً قَالُوْا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهَآ اٰبَاۤءَنَا وَاللّٰهُ اَمَرَنَا بِهَاۗ قُلْ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَأْمُرُ بِالْفَحْشَاۤءِۗ اَتَقُوْلُوْنَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ ٢٨

wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when
faʿalū
فَعَلُوا۟
they do
fāḥishatan
فَٰحِشَةً
immorality
qālū
قَالُوا۟
they say
wajadnā
وَجَدْنَا
"We found
ʿalayhā
عَلَيْهَآ
on it
ābāanā
ءَابَآءَنَا
our forefathers
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
and Allah
amaranā
أَمَرَنَا
(has) ordered us
bihā
بِهَاۗ
of it"
qul
قُلْ
Say
inna
إِنَّ
"Indeed
l-laha
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَا
(does) not
yamuru
يَأْمُرُ
order
bil-faḥshāi
بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِۖ
immorality
ataqūlūna
أَتَقُولُونَ
Do you say
ʿalā
عَلَى
about
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
مَا
what
لَا
not?"
taʿlamūna
تَعْلَمُونَ
you know?"
And when they commit an immorality, they say, "We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has ordered us to do it." Say, "Indeed, Allah does not order immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?" (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 28)
Tafsir
29

قُلْ اَمَرَ رَبِّيْ بِالْقِسْطِۗ وَاَقِيْمُوْا وُجُوْهَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ وَّادْعُوْهُ مُخْلِصِيْنَ لَهُ الدِّيْنَ ەۗ كَمَا بَدَاَكُمْ تَعُوْدُوْنَۗ ٢٩

qul
قُلْ
Say
amara
أَمَرَ
"(Has been) ordered
rabbī
رَبِّى
"(by) my Lord
bil-qis'ṭi
بِٱلْقِسْطِۖ
justice
wa-aqīmū
وَأَقِيمُوا۟
and set
wujūhakum
وُجُوهَكُمْ
your faces
ʿinda
عِندَ
at
kulli
كُلِّ
every
masjidin
مَسْجِدٍ
masjid
wa-id'ʿūhu
وَٱدْعُوهُ
and invoke Him
mukh'liṣīna
مُخْلِصِينَ
(being) sincere
lahu
لَهُ
to Him
l-dīna
ٱلدِّينَۚ
(in) the religion
kamā
كَمَا
As
bada-akum
بَدَأَكُمْ
He originated you
taʿūdūna
تَعُودُونَ
(so) will you return"
Say, [O Muhammad], "My Lord has ordered justice and that you direct yourselves [to the Qiblah] at every place [or time] of prostration, and invoke Him, sincere to Him in religion." Just as He originated you, you will return [to life] – (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 29)
Tafsir
30

فَرِيْقًا هَدٰى وَفَرِيْقًا حَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الضَّلٰلَةُ ۗاِنَّهُمُ اتَّخَذُوا الشَّيٰطِيْنَ اَوْلِيَاۤءَ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ وَيَحْسَبُوْنَ اَنَّهُمْ مُّهْتَدُوْنَ ٣٠

farīqan
فَرِيقًا
A group
hadā
هَدَىٰ
He guided
wafarīqan
وَفَرِيقًا
and a group
ḥaqqa
حَقَّ
deserved
ʿalayhimu
عَلَيْهِمُ
[on] they
l-ḍalālatu
ٱلضَّلَٰلَةُۗ
the astraying
innahumu
إِنَّهُمُ
Indeed, they
ittakhadhū
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟
take
l-shayāṭīna
ٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ
the devils
awliyāa
أَوْلِيَآءَ
(as) allies
min
مِن
from
dūni
دُونِ
besides
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
wayaḥsabūna
وَيَحْسَبُونَ
while they think
annahum
أَنَّهُم
that they
muh'tadūna
مُّهْتَدُونَ
(are the) guided-ones
A group [of you] He guided, and a group deserved [to be in] error. Indeed, they [i.e., the latter] had taken the devils as allies instead of Allah while they thought that they were guided. (QS. [7] Al-A'raf: 30)
