Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Haqqah Verse 27

Al-Haqqah [69]: 27 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

يٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَۚ (الحاقة : ٦٩)

yālaytahā
يَٰلَيْتَهَا
O! I wish it
kānati
كَانَتِ
had been
l-qāḍiyata
ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ
the end

Transliteration:

Yaa laitahaa kaanatil qaadiyah (QS. al-Ḥāq̈q̈ah:27)

English / Sahih Translation:

I wish it [i.e., my death] had been the decisive one. (QS. Al-Haqqah, ayah 27)

Tafsir jalalayn

O would that it, namely, death in [the life of] this world, had been the [final] end, that had terminated my life, so that I am not resurrected.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, (He) will say;

"I wish that I had not been given my Record! And that I had never known how my account is!

Would that it had been my end!..."

Ad-Dahhak said,

"Meaning a death which is not followed by any life."

Likewise said Muhammad bin Ka`b, Ar-Rabi` and As-Suddi.

Qatadah said,

"He will hope for death even though in the worldly life it was the most hated thing to him."

مَا أَغْنَى عَنِّي مَالِيهْ
