Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Haqqah Verse 24

Al-Haqqah [69]: 24 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

كُلُوْا وَاشْرَبُوْا هَنِيْۤـًٔا ۢبِمَآ اَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى الْاَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ (الحاقة : ٦٩)

kulū
كُلُوا۟
"Eat
wa-ish'rabū
وَٱشْرَبُوا۟
and drink
hanīan
هَنِيٓـًٔۢا
(in) satisfaction
bimā
بِمَآ
for what
aslaftum
أَسْلَفْتُمْ
you sent before you
فِى
in
l-ayāmi
ٱلْأَيَّامِ
the days
l-khāliyati
ٱلْخَالِيَةِ
past"

Transliteration:

Kuloo washraboo haneee'am bimaaa aslaftum fil ayyaamil khaliyah (QS. al-Ḥāq̈q̈ah:24)

English / Sahih Translation:

[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past." (QS. Al-Haqqah, ayah 24)

(It will be said to such people,) “Eat and drink with pleasure, as a reward for what you did in advance during past days.”

And so it will be said to them; `Eat and drink in enjoyment (han'an is a circumstantial qualifier, that is to say, mutahanni'na, `while you are enjoying [them]') for what you did in advance in former days', [in days] that have passed during the [life of the] world.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Eat and drink at ease for that which you have sent on before you in days past!

meaning, this will be said to them as an invitation to them of blessing, favor and goodness.

For verily, it has been confirmed in the Sahih that the Messenger of Allah said,

اعْمَلُوا وَسَدِّدُوا وَقَارِبُوا وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ أَحَدًا مِنْكُمْ لَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ عَمَلُهُ الْجَنَّة

Work deeds, strive, seek to draw near (to Allah) and know that none of you will be admitted into Paradise because of his deeds.

They (the Companions) said, "Not even you O Messenger of Allah"

He replied,

وَلَا أَنَا إِلاَّ أَنْ يَتَغَمَّدَنِيَ اللهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِنْهُ وَفَضْل


Not even me, except if Allah covers me with mercy from Himself and grace.
