Al-Qur'an Surah Al-Mulk Verse 10
Al-Mulk [67]: 10 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
وَقَالُوْا لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ اَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِيْٓ اَصْحٰبِ السَّعِيْرِ (الملك : ٦٧)

- And they will say

- نَسْمَعُ

- أَوْ

- naʿqilu

- فِىٓ
- among
- aṣḥābi
- أَصْحَٰبِ
- (the) companions
- l-saʿīri
- ٱلسَّعِيرِ
- (of) the Blaze"
Transliteration:
Wa qaaloo law kunnaa nasma'u awna'qilu maa kunnaa feee as haabis sa'eer(QS. al-Mulk:10)
English / Sahih Translation:
And they will say, "If only we had been listening or reasoning, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze." (QS. Al-Mulk, ayah 10)

And they will say, “Had we been listening or understanding, we would not have been among the people of the Hell.”

English Literal
And they said: "If we were hearing/listening or reasoning/comprehending we would not have been in (between) the blazing`s/inflamed`s (inferno`s) owners/company/friends."

Tafsir jalalayn
And they will say, `Had we listened, that is, listening so as to understand, or comprehended, that is, comprehension entailing reflection [upon the truth], we would not have been among the inhabitants of the Blaze'.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
وَقَالُوا
They will say,
لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِي أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ
Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not have been among the dwellers of the blazing Fire!
meaning, `if we would have benefited from our intellects or listened to the truth that Allah revealed, we would not have been disbelieving in Allah and misguided about Him. But we did not have understanding to comprehend what the Messengers came with, and we did not have the intelligence to guide us to following them.'
Allah then says,
فَاعْتَرَفُوا بِذَنبِهِمْ فَسُحْقًا لاَِّصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ
