يٰٓاَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَآ اَحَلَّ اللّٰهُ لَكَۚ تَبْتَغِيْ مَرْضَاتَ اَزْوَاجِكَۗ وَاللّٰهُ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ ١
- yāayyuhā
- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- O!
- l-nabiyu
- ٱلنَّبِىُّ
- Prophet!
- lima
- لِمَ
- Why (do)
- tuḥarrimu
- تُحَرِّمُ
- you prohibit
- mā
- مَآ
- what
- aḥalla
- أَحَلَّ
- has made lawful
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- laka
- لَكَۖ
- for you
- tabtaghī
- تَبْتَغِى
- seeking
- marḍāta
- مَرْضَاتَ
- (to) please
- azwājika
- أَزْوَٰجِكَۚ
- your wives?
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- And Allah
- ghafūrun
- غَفُورٌ
- (is) Oft-Forgiving
- raḥīmun
- رَّحِيمٌ
- Most Merciful
O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 1)Tafsir
قَدْ فَرَضَ اللّٰهُ لَكُمْ تَحِلَّةَ اَيْمَانِكُمْۚ وَاللّٰهُ مَوْلٰىكُمْۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيْمُ الْحَكِيْمُ ٢
- qad
- قَدْ
- Indeed
- faraḍa
- فَرَضَ
- has ordained
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- lakum
- لَكُمْ
- for you
- taḥillata
- تَحِلَّةَ
- (the) dissolution
- aymānikum
- أَيْمَٰنِكُمْۚ
- (of) your oaths
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- And Allah
- mawlākum
- مَوْلَىٰكُمْۖ
- (is) your Protector
- wahuwa
- وَهُوَ
- and He
- l-ʿalīmu
- ٱلْعَلِيمُ
- (is) the All-Knower
- l-ḥakīmu
- ٱلْحَكِيمُ
- the All-Wise
Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oaths. And Allah is your protector, and He is the Knowing, the Wise. (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 2)Tafsir
وَاِذْ اَسَرَّ النَّبِيُّ اِلٰى بَعْضِ اَزْوَاجِهٖ حَدِيْثًاۚ فَلَمَّا نَبَّاَتْ بِهٖ وَاَظْهَرَهُ اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ عَرَّفَ بَعْضَهٗ وَاَعْرَضَ عَنْۢ بَعْضٍۚ فَلَمَّا نَبَّاَهَا بِهٖ قَالَتْ مَنْ اَنْۢبَاَكَ هٰذَاۗ قَالَ نَبَّاَنِيَ الْعَلِيْمُ الْخَبِيْرُ ٣
- wa-idh
- وَإِذْ
- And when
- asarra
- أَسَرَّ
- confided
- l-nabiyu
- ٱلنَّبِىُّ
- the Prophet
- ilā
- إِلَىٰ
- to
- baʿḍi
- بَعْضِ
- one
- azwājihi
- أَزْوَٰجِهِۦ
- (of) his wives
- ḥadīthan
- حَدِيثًا
- a statement
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- and when
- nabba-at
- نَبَّأَتْ
- she informed
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- about it
- wa-aẓharahu
- وَأَظْهَرَهُ
- and made it apparent
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- ʿalayhi
- عَلَيْهِ
- to him
- ʿarrafa
- عَرَّفَ
- he made known
- baʿḍahu
- بَعْضَهُۥ
- a part of it
- wa-aʿraḍa
- وَأَعْرَضَ
- and avoided
- ʿan
- عَنۢ
- [of]
- baʿḍin
- بَعْضٍۖ
- a part
- falammā
- فَلَمَّا
- Then when
- nabba-ahā
- نَبَّأَهَا
- he informed her
- bihi
- بِهِۦ
- about it
- qālat
- قَالَتْ
- she said
- man
- مَنْ
- "Who
- anba-aka
- أَنۢبَأَكَ
- informed you
- hādhā
- هَٰذَاۖ
- this?"
- qāla
- قَالَ
- He said
- nabba-aniya
- نَبَّأَنِىَ
- "Has informed me
- l-ʿalīmu
- ٱلْعَلِيمُ
- the All-Knower
- l-khabīru
- ٱلْخَبِيرُ
- the All-Aware"
And [remember] when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement; and when she informed [another] of it and Allah showed it to him, he made known part of it and ignored a part. And when he informed her about it, she said, "Who told you this?" He said, "I was informed by the Knowing, the Aware." (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 3)Tafsir
اِنْ تَتُوْبَآ اِلَى اللّٰهِ فَقَدْ صَغَتْ قُلُوْبُكُمَاۚ وَاِنْ تَظٰهَرَا عَلَيْهِ فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ هُوَ مَوْلٰىهُ وَجِبْرِيْلُ وَصَالِحُ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَۚ وَالْمَلٰۤىِٕكَةُ بَعْدَ ذٰلِكَ ظَهِيْرٌ ٤
- in
- إِن
- If
- tatūbā
- تَتُوبَآ
- you both turn
- ilā
- إِلَى
- to
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- faqad
- فَقَدْ
- so indeed
- ṣaghat
- صَغَتْ
- (are) inclined
- qulūbukumā
- قُلُوبُكُمَاۖ
- your hearts;
- wa-in
- وَإِن
- but if
- taẓāharā
- تَظَٰهَرَا
- you backup each other
- ʿalayhi
- عَلَيْهِ
- against him
- fa-inna
- فَإِنَّ
- then indeed
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- huwa
- هُوَ
- He
- mawlāhu
- مَوْلَىٰهُ
- (is) his Protector
- wajib'rīlu
- وَجِبْرِيلُ
- and Jibreel
- waṣāliḥu
- وَصَٰلِحُ
- and (the) righteous
- l-mu'minīna
- ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَۖ
- believers
- wal-malāikatu
- وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ
- and the Angels
- baʿda
- بَعْدَ
- after
- dhālika
- ذَٰلِكَ
- that
- ẓahīrun
- ظَهِيرٌ
- (are his) assistants
If you two [wives] repent to Allah, [it is best], for your hearts have deviated. But if you cooperate against him – then indeed Allah is his protector, and Gabriel and the righteous of the believers and the angels, moreover, are [his] assistants. (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 4)Tafsir
عَسٰى رَبُّهٗٓ اِنْ طَلَّقَكُنَّ اَنْ يُّبْدِلَهٗٓ اَزْوَاجًا خَيْرًا مِّنْكُنَّ مُسْلِمٰتٍ مُّؤْمِنٰتٍ قٰنِتٰتٍ تٰۤىِٕبٰتٍ عٰبِدٰتٍ سٰۤىِٕحٰتٍ ثَيِّبٰتٍ وَّاَبْكَارًا ٥
- ʿasā
- عَسَىٰ
- Perhaps
- rabbuhu
- رَبُّهُۥٓ
- his Lord
- in
- إِن
- if
- ṭallaqakunna
- طَلَّقَكُنَّ
- he divorced you
- an
- أَن
- [that]
- yub'dilahu
- يُبْدِلَهُۥٓ
- He will substitute for him
- azwājan
- أَزْوَٰجًا
- wives
- khayran
- خَيْرًا
- better
- minkunna
- مِّنكُنَّ
- than you
- mus'limātin
- مُسْلِمَٰتٍ
- submissive
- mu'minātin
- مُّؤْمِنَٰتٍ
- faithful
- qānitātin
- قَٰنِتَٰتٍ
- obedient
- tāibātin
- تَٰٓئِبَٰتٍ
- repentant
- ʿābidātin
- عَٰبِدَٰتٍ
- who worship
- sāiḥātin
- سَٰٓئِحَٰتٍ
- who fast
- thayyibātin
- ثَيِّبَٰتٍ
- previously married
- wa-abkāran
- وَأَبْكَارًا
- and virgins
Perhaps his Lord, if he divorced you [all], would substitute for him wives better than you – submitting [to Allah], believing, devoutly obedient, repentant, worshipping, and traveling – [ones] previously married and virgins. (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 5)Tafsir
يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا قُوْٓا اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَاَهْلِيْكُمْ نَارًا وَّقُوْدُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلٰۤىِٕكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا يَعْصُوْنَ اللّٰهَ مَآ اَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُوْنَ مَا يُؤْمَرُوْنَ ٦
- yāayyuhā
- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- O!
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (you) who!
- āmanū
- ءَامَنُوا۟
- believe!
- qū
- قُوٓا۟
- Protect
- anfusakum
- أَنفُسَكُمْ
- yourselves
- wa-ahlīkum
- وَأَهْلِيكُمْ
- and your families
- nāran
- نَارًا
- (from) a Fire
- waqūduhā
- وَقُودُهَا
- whose fuel
- l-nāsu
- ٱلنَّاسُ
- (is) people
- wal-ḥijāratu
- وَٱلْحِجَارَةُ
- and stones
- ʿalayhā
- عَلَيْهَا
- over it
- malāikatun
- مَلَٰٓئِكَةٌ
- (are) Angels
- ghilāẓun
- غِلَاظٌ
- stern
- shidādun
- شِدَادٌ
- severe
- lā
- لَّا
- not
- yaʿṣūna
- يَعْصُونَ
- they disobey
- l-laha
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- mā
- مَآ
- (in) what
- amarahum
- أَمَرَهُمْ
- He Commands them
- wayafʿalūna
- وَيَفْعَلُونَ
- but they do
- mā
- مَا
- what
- yu'marūna
- يُؤْمَرُونَ
- they are commanded
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded. (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 6)Tafsir
يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا الْيَوْمَۗ اِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُوْنَ ࣖ ٧
- yāayyuhā
- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- "O!
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- "(you) who!
- kafarū
- كَفَرُوا۟
- "disbelieve!
- lā
- لَا
- (Do) not
- taʿtadhirū
- تَعْتَذِرُوا۟
- make excuses
- l-yawma
- ٱلْيَوْمَۖ
- today
- innamā
- إِنَّمَا
- Only
- tuj'zawna
- تُجْزَوْنَ
- you will be recompensed
- mā
- مَا
- (for) what
- kuntum
- كُنتُمْ
- you used (to)
- taʿmalūna
- تَعْمَلُونَ
- do"
O you who have disbelieved, make no excuses that Day. You will only be recompensed for what you used to do. (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 7)Tafsir
يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا تُوْبُوْٓا اِلَى اللّٰهِ تَوْبَةً نَّصُوْحًاۗ عَسٰى رَبُّكُمْ اَنْ يُّكَفِّرَ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّاٰتِكُمْ وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ جَنّٰتٍ تَجْرِيْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُۙ يَوْمَ لَا يُخْزِى اللّٰهُ النَّبِيَّ وَالَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مَعَهٗۚ نُوْرُهُمْ يَسْعٰى بَيْنَ اَيْدِيْهِمْ وَبِاَيْمَانِهِمْ يَقُوْلُوْنَ رَبَّنَآ اَتْمِمْ لَنَا نُوْرَنَا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَاۚ اِنَّكَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ ٨
- yāayyuhā
- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- O!
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (you) who believe!
- āmanū
- ءَامَنُوا۟
- believe!
- tūbū
- تُوبُوٓا۟
- Turn
- ilā
- إِلَى
- to
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- tawbatan
- تَوْبَةً
- (in) repentance
- naṣūḥan
- نَّصُوحًا
- sincere!
- ʿasā
- عَسَىٰ
- Perhaps
- rabbukum
- رَبُّكُمْ
- your Lord
- an
- أَن
- [that]
- yukaffira
- يُكَفِّرَ
- will remove
- ʿankum
- عَنكُمْ
- from you
- sayyiātikum
- سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ
- your misdeeds
- wayud'khilakum
- وَيُدْخِلَكُمْ
- and admit you
- jannātin
- جَنَّٰتٍ
- (into) Gardens
- tajrī
- تَجْرِى
- flow
- min
- مِن
- from
- taḥtihā
- تَحْتِهَا
- underneath it
- l-anhāru
- ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ
- the rivers
- yawma
- يَوْمَ
- (on the) Day
- lā
- لَا
- not
- yukh'zī
- يُخْزِى
- will be disgraced
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- (by) Allah
- l-nabiya
- ٱلنَّبِىَّ
- the Prophet
- wa-alladhīna
- وَٱلَّذِينَ
- and those who
- āmanū
- ءَامَنُوا۟
- believed
- maʿahu
- مَعَهُۥۖ
- with him
- nūruhum
- نُورُهُمْ
- Their light
- yasʿā
- يَسْعَىٰ
- will run
- bayna
- بَيْنَ
- before
- aydīhim
- أَيْدِيهِمْ
- their hands
- wabi-aymānihim
- وَبِأَيْمَٰنِهِمْ
- and on their right
- yaqūlūna
- يَقُولُونَ
- they will say
- rabbanā
- رَبَّنَآ
- "Our Lord
- atmim
- أَتْمِمْ
- Perfect
- lanā
- لَنَا
- for us
- nūranā
- نُورَنَا
- our light
- wa-igh'fir
- وَٱغْفِرْ
- and grant forgiveness
- lanā
- لَنَآۖ
- to us
- innaka
- إِنَّكَ
- Indeed, You
- ʿalā
- عَلَىٰ
- (are) over
- kulli
- كُلِّ
- every
- shayin
- شَىْءٍ
- thing
- qadīrun
- قَدِيرٌ
- All-Powerful"
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow [on] the Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believed with him. Their light will proceed before them and on their right; they will say, "Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent." (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 8)Tafsir
يٰٓاَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ جَاهِدِ الْكُفَّارَ وَالْمُنٰفِقِيْنَ وَاغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْۗ وَمَأْوٰىهُمْ جَهَنَّمُۗ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيْرُ ٩
- yāayyuhā
- يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
- O!
- l-nabiyu
- ٱلنَّبِىُّ
- Prophet!
- jāhidi
- جَٰهِدِ
- Strive
- l-kufāra
- ٱلْكُفَّارَ
- (against) the disbelievers
- wal-munāfiqīna
- وَٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ
- and the hypocrites
- wa-ugh'luẓ
- وَٱغْلُظْ
- and be stern
- ʿalayhim
- عَلَيْهِمْۚ
- with them
- wamawāhum
- وَمَأْوَىٰهُمْ
- And their abode
- jahannamu
- جَهَنَّمُۖ
- (is) Hell
- wabi'sa
- وَبِئْسَ
- and wretched is
- l-maṣīru
- ٱلْمَصِيرُ
- the destination
O Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the destination. (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 9)Tafsir
ضَرَبَ اللّٰهُ مَثَلًا لِّلَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوا امْرَاَتَ نُوْحٍ وَّامْرَاَتَ لُوْطٍۗ كَانَتَا تَحْتَ عَبْدَيْنِ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا صَالِحَيْنِ فَخَانَتٰهُمَا فَلَمْ يُغْنِيَا عَنْهُمَا مِنَ اللّٰهِ شَيْـًٔا وَّقِيْلَ ادْخُلَا النَّارَ مَعَ الدَّاخِلِيْنَ ١٠
- ḍaraba
- ضَرَبَ
- Presents
- l-lahu
- ٱللَّهُ
- Allah
- mathalan
- مَثَلًا
- an example
- lilladhīna
- لِّلَّذِينَ
- for those who
- kafarū
- كَفَرُوا۟
- disbelieved
- im'ra-ata
- ٱمْرَأَتَ
- (the) wife
- nūḥin
- نُوحٍ
- (of) Nuh
- wa-im'ra-ata
- وَٱمْرَأَتَ
- (and the) wife
- lūṭin
- لُوطٍۖ
- (of) Lut
- kānatā
- كَانَتَا
- They were
- taḥta
- تَحْتَ
- under
- ʿabdayni
- عَبْدَيْنِ
- two [slaves]
- min
- مِنْ
- of
- ʿibādinā
- عِبَادِنَا
- Our slaves
- ṣāliḥayni
- صَٰلِحَيْنِ
- righteous
- fakhānatāhumā
- فَخَانَتَاهُمَا
- but they both betrayed them
- falam
- فَلَمْ
- so not
- yugh'niyā
- يُغْنِيَا
- they availed
- ʿanhumā
- عَنْهُمَا
- both of them
- mina
- مِنَ
- from
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- Allah
- shayan
- شَيْـًٔا
- (in) anything
- waqīla
- وَقِيلَ
- and it was said
- ud'khulā
- ٱدْخُلَا
- "Enter
- l-nāra
- ٱلنَّارَ
- the Fire
- maʿa
- مَعَ
- with
- l-dākhilīna
- ٱلدَّٰخِلِينَ
- those who enter"
Allah presents an example of those who disbelieved: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They were under two of Our righteous servants but betrayed them, so they [i.e., those prophets] did not avail them from Allah at all, and it was said, "Enter the Fire with those who enter." (QS. [66] At-Tahrim: 10)Tafsir
