Surah At-Taghabun - Word by Word

(The Mutual Disillusion)

bismillaahirrahmaanirrahiim
1

يُسَبِّحُ لِلّٰهِ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِى الْاَرْضِۗ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُۖ وَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ ١

yusabbiḥu
يُسَبِّحُ
Glorifies
lillahi
لِلَّهِ
[to] Allah
مَا
whatever
فِى
(is) in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wamā
وَمَا
and whatever
فِى
(is) in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِۖ
the earth
lahu
لَهُ
For Him
l-mul'ku
ٱلْمُلْكُ
(is the) dominion
walahu
وَلَهُ
and for Him
l-ḥamdu
ٱلْحَمْدُۖ
(is) the praise
wahuwa
وَهُوَ
And He
ʿalā
عَلَىٰ
(is) on
kulli
كُلِّ
every
shayin
شَىْءٍ
thing
qadīrun
قَدِيرٌ
All-powerful
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allah. To Him belongs dominion, and to Him belongs [all] praise, and He is over all things competent. (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 1)
Tafsir

هُوَ الَّذِيْ خَلَقَكُمْ فَمِنْكُمْ كَافِرٌ وَّمِنْكُمْ مُّؤْمِنٌۗ وَاللّٰهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ بَصِيْرٌ ٢

huwa
هُوَ
He
alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
(is) the One Who
khalaqakum
خَلَقَكُمْ
created you
faminkum
فَمِنكُمْ
and among you
kāfirun
كَافِرٌ
(is) a disbeliever
waminkum
وَمِنكُم
and among you
mu'minun
مُّؤْمِنٌۚ
(is) a believer
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
bimā
بِمَا
of what
taʿmalūna
تَعْمَلُونَ
you do
baṣīrun
بَصِيرٌ
(is) All-Seer
It is He who created you, and among you is the disbeliever, and among you is the believer. And Allah, of what you do, is Seeing. (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 2)
Tafsir

خَلَقَ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَوَّرَكُمْ فَاَحْسَنَ صُوَرَكُمْۚ وَاِلَيْهِ الْمَصِيْرُ ٣

khalaqa
خَلَقَ
He created
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wal-arḍa
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
and the earth
bil-ḥaqi
بِٱلْحَقِّ
with truth
waṣawwarakum
وَصَوَّرَكُمْ
and He formed you
fa-aḥsana
فَأَحْسَنَ
and made good
ṣuwarakum
صُوَرَكُمْۖ
your forms
wa-ilayhi
وَإِلَيْهِ
and to Him
l-maṣīru
ٱلْمَصِيرُ
(is) the final return
He created the heavens and earth in truth and formed you and perfected your forms; and to Him is the [final] destination. (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 3)

4

يَعْلَمُ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّوْنَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُوْنَۗ وَاللّٰهُ عَلِيْمٌ ۢبِذَاتِ الصُّدُوْرِ ٤

yaʿlamu
يَعْلَمُ
He knows
مَا
what
فِى
(is) in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wal-arḍi
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
and the earth
wayaʿlamu
وَيَعْلَمُ
and He knows
مَا
what
tusirrūna
تُسِرُّونَ
you conceal
wamā
وَمَا
and what
tuʿ'linūna
تُعْلِنُونَۚ
you declare
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
ʿalīmun
عَلِيمٌۢ
(is) All-Knowing
bidhāti
بِذَاتِ
of what
l-ṣudūri
ٱلصُّدُورِ
(is in) the breasts
He knows what is within the heavens and earth and knows what you conceal and what you declare. And Allah is Knowing of that within the breasts. (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 4)

اَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَبَؤُا الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا مِنْ قَبْلُ ۖفَذَاقُوْا وَبَالَ اَمْرِهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ اَلِيْمٌ ٥

alam
أَلَمْ
Has not
yatikum
يَأْتِكُمْ
come to you
naba-u
نَبَؤُا۟
(the) news
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
(of) those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieved
min
مِن
from?
qablu
قَبْلُ
before?
fadhāqū
فَذَاقُوا۟
So they tasted
wabāla
وَبَالَ
(the) bad consequence
amrihim
أَمْرِهِمْ
(of) their affair
walahum
وَلَهُمْ
and for them
ʿadhābun
عَذَابٌ
(is) a punishment
alīmun
أَلِيمٌ
painful
Has there not come to you the news of those who disbelieved before? So they tasted the bad consequence of their affair, and they will have a painful punishment. (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 5)

6

ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّهٗ كَانَتْ تَّأْتِيْهِمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنٰتِ فَقَالُوْٓا اَبَشَرٌ يَّهْدُوْنَنَاۖ فَكَفَرُوْا وَتَوَلَّوْا وَّاسْتَغْنَى اللّٰهُ ۗوَاللّٰهُ غَنِيٌّ حَمِيْدٌ ٦

dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
bi-annahu
بِأَنَّهُۥ
(is) because
kānat
كَانَت
had
tatīhim
تَّأْتِيهِمْ
come to them
rusuluhum
رُسُلُهُم
their Messengers
bil-bayināti
بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
with clear proofs
faqālū
فَقَالُوٓا۟
but they said
abasharun
أَبَشَرٌ
"Shall human beings
yahdūnanā
يَهْدُونَنَا
guide us?"
fakafarū
فَكَفَرُوا۟
So they disbelieved
watawallaw
وَتَوَلَّوا۟ۚ
and turned away
wa-is'taghnā
وَّٱسْتَغْنَى
And can do without them
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُۚ
Allah
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
ghaniyyun
غَنِىٌّ
(is) Self-sufficient
ḥamīdun
حَمِيدٌ
Praiseworthy
That is because their messengers used to come to them with clear evidences, but they said, "Shall human beings guide us?" and disbelieved and turned away. And Allah dispensed [with them]; and Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy. (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 6)
Tafsir
7

زَعَمَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْٓا اَنْ لَّنْ يُّبْعَثُوْاۗ قُلْ بَلٰى وَرَبِّيْ لَتُبْعَثُنَّ ثُمَّ لَتُنَبَّؤُنَّ بِمَا عَمِلْتُمْۗ وَذٰلِكَ عَلَى اللّٰهِ يَسِيْرٌ ٧

zaʿama
زَعَمَ
Claim
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوٓا۟
disbelieve
an
أَن
that
lan
لَّن
never
yub'ʿathū
يُبْعَثُوا۟ۚ
will they be raised
qul
قُلْ
Say
balā
بَلَىٰ
"Yes
warabbī
وَرَبِّى
by my Lord
latub'ʿathunna
لَتُبْعَثُنَّ
surely you will be raised;
thumma
ثُمَّ
then
latunabba-unna
لَتُنَبَّؤُنَّ
surely you will be informed
bimā
بِمَا
of what
ʿamil'tum
عَمِلْتُمْۚ
you did
wadhālika
وَذَٰلِكَ
And that
ʿalā
عَلَى
for
l-lahi
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
yasīrun
يَسِيرٌ
(is) easy"
Those who disbelieve have claimed that they will never be resurrected. Say, "Yes, by my Lord, you will surely be resurrected; then you will surely be informed of what you did. And that, for Allah, is easy." (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 7)

8

فَاٰمِنُوْا بِاللّٰهِ وَرَسُوْلِهٖ وَالنُّوْرِ الَّذِيْٓ اَنْزَلْنَاۗ وَاللّٰهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ خَبِيْرٌ ٨

faāminū
فَـَٔامِنُوا۟
So believe
bil-lahi
بِٱللَّهِ
in Allah
warasūlihi
وَرَسُولِهِۦ
and His Messenger
wal-nūri
وَٱلنُّورِ
and the Light
alladhī
ٱلَّذِىٓ
which
anzalnā
أَنزَلْنَاۚ
We have sent down
wal-lahu
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
bimā
بِمَا
of what
taʿmalūna
تَعْمَلُونَ
you do
khabīrun
خَبِيرٌ
(is) All-Aware
So believe in Allah and His Messenger and the light [i.e., the Quran] which We have sent down. And Allah is Aware of what you do. (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 8)

9

يَوْمَ يَجْمَعُكُمْ لِيَوْمِ الْجَمْعِ ذٰلِكَ يَوْمُ التَّغَابُنِۗ وَمَنْ يُّؤْمِنْۢ بِاللّٰهِ وَيَعْمَلْ صَالِحًا يُّكَفِّرْ عَنْهُ سَيِّاٰتِهٖ وَيُدْخِلْهُ جَنّٰتٍ تَجْرِيْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُ خٰلِدِيْنَ فِيْهَآ اَبَدًاۗ ذٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيْمُ ٩

yawma
يَوْمَ
(The) Day
yajmaʿukum
يَجْمَعُكُمْ
He will assemble you
liyawmi
لِيَوْمِ
for (the) Day
l-jamʿi
ٱلْجَمْعِۖ
(of) the Assembly
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
that
yawmu
يَوْمُ
(will be the) Day
l-taghābuni
ٱلتَّغَابُنِۗ
(of) mutual loss and gain
waman
وَمَن
And whoever
yu'min
يُؤْمِنۢ
believes
bil-lahi
بِٱللَّهِ
in Allah
wayaʿmal
وَيَعْمَلْ
and does
ṣāliḥan
صَٰلِحًا
righteousness
yukaffir
يُكَفِّرْ
He will remove
ʿanhu
عَنْهُ
from him
sayyiātihi
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِۦ
his misdeeds
wayud'khil'hu
وَيُدْخِلْهُ
and He will admit him
jannātin
جَنَّٰتٍ
(to) Gardens
tajrī
تَجْرِى
flow
min
مِن
from
taḥtihā
تَحْتِهَا
underneath it
l-anhāru
ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ
the rivers
khālidīna
خَٰلِدِينَ
abiding
fīhā
فِيهَآ
therein
abadan
أَبَدًاۚ
forever
dhālika
ذَٰلِكَ
That
l-fawzu
ٱلْفَوْزُ
(is) the success
l-ʿaẓīmu
ٱلْعَظِيمُ
the great
The Day He will assemble you for the Day of Assembly – that is the Day of Deprivation. And whoever believes in Allah and does righteousness – He will remove from him his misdeeds and admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment. (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 9)

10

وَالَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا وَكَذَّبُوْا بِاٰيٰتِنَآ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ اَصْحٰبُ النَّارِ خٰلِدِيْنَ فِيْهَاۗ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيْرُ ࣖ ١٠

wa-alladhīna
وَٱلَّذِينَ
But those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieved
wakadhabū
وَكَذَّبُوا۟
and denied
biāyātinā
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآ
[in] Our Verses
ulāika
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
those
aṣḥābu
أَصْحَٰبُ
(are the) companions
l-nāri
ٱلنَّارِ
(of) the Fire
khālidīna
خَٰلِدِينَ
abiding forever
fīhā
فِيهَاۖ
therein
wabi'sa
وَبِئْسَ
And wretched is
l-maṣīru
ٱلْمَصِيرُ
the destination
But the ones who disbelieved and denied Our verses – those are the companions of the Fire, abiding eternally therein; and wretched is the destination. (QS. [64] At-Taghabun: 10)
