Al-Qur'an Surah As-Saf Verse 8
As-Saf [61]: 8 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
يُرِيْدُوْنَ لِيُطْفِـُٔوْا نُوْرَ اللّٰهِ بِاَفْوَاهِهِمْۗ وَاللّٰهُ مُتِمُّ نُوْرِهٖ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكٰفِرُوْنَ (الصف : ٦١)
- yurīdūna
- يُرِيدُونَ
- They intend
- liyuṭ'fiū
- لِيُطْفِـُٔوا۟
- to put out
- nūra
- نُورَ
- (the) light
- l-lahi
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- bi-afwāhihim
- بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ
- with their mouths
- wal-lahu
- وَٱللَّهُ
- but Allah
- mutimmu
- مُتِمُّ
- will perfect
- nūrihi
- نُورِهِۦ
- His Light

- the disbelievers
Transliteration:
Yureedoona liyutfi'oo nooral laahi bi afwaahimim wallaahu mutimmu noorihee wa law karihal kaafiroon(QS. aṣ-Ṣaff:8)
English / Sahih Translation:
They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it. (QS. As-Saf, ayah 8)

They wish to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah is to perfect His light, even though the disbelievers dislike (it).

English Literal
They want/intend to extinguish/put out God`s light with their mouths, and God (is) completing His light, and even if the disbelievers hated (it).

They want to extinguish God’s Light with their mouths; but God will complete His Light, even though the disbelievers dislike it.
Tafsir jalalayn
They desire to extinguish (li-yutfi' is in the subjunctive form because of an implicit an [sc. an yutfi'], the lm being extra) the light of God, His Law and His proofs, with their mouths, with their sayings, that this is sorcery, or poetry or soothsaying; but God will perfect, He will manifest, His light (mutimmun nrahu; some have read this in the form of a genitive annextation, mutimmu nrihi) though the disbelievers be averse, to this.
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
يُرِيدُونَ لِيُطْفِوُوا نُورَ اللَّهِ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ
They intend to put out the Light of Allah with their mouths.
indicating that the disbelievers will try to contradict the truth with falsehood. Their attempts are similar to one's attempt to extinguish the sun with his mouth, which is impossible. Likewise is the case of their attempt to extinguish truth.
So Allah said,
وَاللَّهُ مُتِمُّ نُورِهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ
هُوَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ رَسُولَهُ بِالْهُدَى وَدِينِ الْحَقِّ
لِيُظْهِرَهُ عَلَى الدِّينِ كُلِّهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ
