Mufti Taqi Usmani

Surely, Allah is the one who splits the grain and the date-stone (for sprouting). He brings forth the living from the dead, and He is the One who brings forth the dead from the living. That is Allah! To where, then, are you being turned away (by your desires)?

Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran

Indeed, Allah is the One Who causes seeds and fruit stones to sprout. He brings forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living. That is Allah! How can you then be deluded ˹from the truth˺?

Ruwwad Translation Center

Abdullah Yusuf Ali

It is Allah Who causeth the seed-grain and the date-stone to split and sprout. He causeth the living to issue from the dead, and He is the one to cause the dead to issue from the living. That is Allah; then how are ye deluded away from the truth?

Indeed it is Allah Who splits the grain and the seed; it is He Who brings forth living from the dead, and it is He Who brings forth dead from the living; such is Allah; so where are you reverting?

Indeed Allah is the splitter of the grain and the pit. He brings forth the living from the dead and He brings forth the dead from the living. That is Allah! Then where do you stray?

Ali Ünal

God is He Who splits the grain and the fruit-stone (so that they germinate by His command). He brings forth the living from the dead, and He is One Who brings forth the dead from the living; Such is God: how then are you turned away from the truth and make false claims?

Amatul Rahman Omar

Verily, it is Allâh Who splits the (seed) grains and (fruit) stones. He bring forth the living out of the lifeless and He brings forth the lifeless out of the living. Such is Allâh, wherefore then are you turned back.

English Literal

That God (is) splitter (of) the seed/grain and the kernel/nucleuses (and) He brings out the live/alive from the dead, and (He is) bringing out the dead from the live/alive, that one (is) God, so how (do) you lie/turn away.

Faridul Haque

Indeed it is Allah Who splits the grain and the seed; it is He Who brings forth living from the dead, and it is He Who brings forth dead from the living; such is Allah; so where are you reverting?

Hilali & Khan

Verily! It is Allah Who causes the seed-grain and the fruit-stone (like date-stone, etc.) to split and sprout. He brings forth the living from the dead, and it is He Who brings forth the dead from the living. Such is Allah, then how are you deluded away from the truth?

Maulana Mohammad Ali

And certainly you have come to Us one by one as We created you at first, and you have left behind your backs what We gave you. And We see not with you your intercessors about whom you asserted that they were (Allah’s) associates in respect to you. Certainly the ties between you are now cut off and that which you asserted has failed you.

Mohammad Habib Shakir

Surely Allah causes the grain and the stone to germinate; He brings forth the living from the dead and He is the bringer forth of the dead from the living; that is Allah! how are you then turned away.

Mohammed Marmaduke William Pickthall

Tafsir jalalayn

God it is Who splits the grain, from the plants, and the date-stone, from the palm-trees. He brings forth the living from the dead, such as the human being from the sperm, and the bird from the egg; and is the Bringer-forth of the dead, the sperm and the egg, from the living. That, Splitter and Bringer-forth, is God. How then are you deluded?, so how then are you turned away from faith, despite the proof being established?

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Recognizing Allah Through Some of His Ayat

Allah

Verily! It is Allah Who causes the seed grain and the fruit stone to split and sprout.

Allah states that He causes the seed grain and the fruit stone to split and sprout in the ground, producing various types, colors, shapes, and tastes of grains and produce.

The Ayah,
(Who causes the seed grain and the fruit stone to split and sprout) is explained by the next statement,

He brings forth the living from the dead, and it is He Who brings forth the deed from the living.

meaning, He brings the living plant from the seed grain and the fruit stone, which is a lifeless and inanimate object.

Allah said,

And a sign for them is the dead land. We gave it life, and We brought forth from it grains, so that they eat thereof. (36;33) until,
(as well as of their own (human) kind (male and female), and of that which they know not. (36;36)

Allah's statement,
(and it is He Who brings forth the dead from the living).

There are similar expressions in meaning such as, He brings the egg from the chicken, and the opposite.

Others said that it means, He brings the wicked offspring from the righteous parent and the opposite, and there are other possible meanings for the Ayah.

Allah said,

Such is Allah,

meaning, He Who does all this, is Allah, the One and Only without partners,

then how are you deluded away from the truth.

meaning, look how you are deluded from Truth to the falsehood of worshipping others besides Allah.
