Al-Qur'an Surah Al-An'am Verse 89
Al-An'am [6]: 89 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer
اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰتَيْنٰهُمُ الْكِتٰبَ وَالْحُكْمَ وَالنُّبُوَّةَ ۚفَاِنْ يَّكْفُرْ بِهَا هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ فَقَدْ وَكَّلْنَا بِهَا قَوْمًا لَّيْسُوْا بِهَا بِكٰفِرِيْنَ (الأنعام : ٦)
- ulāika
- أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
- Those -
- alladhīna
- ٱلَّذِينَ
- (are) ones whom
- ātaynāhumu
- ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ
- We gave them
- l-kitāba
- ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
- the Book
- wal-ḥuk'ma
- وَٱلْحُكْمَ
- and the judgment
- wal-nubuwata
- وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَۚ
- and the Prophethood
- fa-in
- فَإِن
- But if
- yakfur
- يَكْفُرْ
- disbelieve
- bihā
- بِهَا
- in it
- hāulāi
- هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
- these
- faqad
- فَقَدْ
- then indeed
- wakkalnā
- وَكَّلْنَا
- We have entrusted
- bihā
- بِهَا
- it
- qawman
- قَوْمًا
- (to) a people
- laysū
- لَّيْسُوا۟
- who are not
- bihā
- بِهَا
- therein
- bikāfirīna
- بِكَٰفِرِينَ
- disbelievers
Transliteration:
Ulaaa'ikal lazeena aatainaahumul Kitaaba wal hukma wan Nubuwwah; fa iny yakfur bihaa haaa'ulaaa'i faqad wakkalnaa bihaa qawmal laisoo bihaa bikaafireen(QS. al-ʾAnʿām:89)
English / Sahih Translation:
Those are the ones to whom We gave the Scripture and authority and prophethood. But if they [i.e., the disbelievers] deny it, then We have entrusted it to a people who are not therein disbelievers. (QS. Al-An'am, ayah 89)
Mufti Taqi Usmani
They are those whom We have given the Book and wisdom and prophethood. So, if these people disbelieve this (concept of Prophet-hood), then (be not grieved, because) We have deputed for (believing in) it a people who do not reject it.

Those were the ones to whom We gave the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood. But if these ˹pagans˺ disbelieve in this ˹message˺, then We have already entrusted it to a people who will never disbelieve in it.[[ i.e., the companions of the Prophet (ﷺ). ]]

These were the men to whom We gave the Book, and authority, and prophethood; if these (their descendants) reject them, Behold! We shall entrust their charge to a new people who reject them not.

Those are the ones to whom We gave the Book, and judgement and prophethood. And if they refuse to believe in it now, We will bestow this favour on a people who do believe in it.

Those are the ones to whom We granted the Book, and authority with sound, wise judgment, and Prophethood. Then if those (people of yours, O Messenger,) disbelieve it (Our guidance which We have sent them with you), then certainly We entrust it to a people who do believe therein.

It is these (Messengers) to whom We gave the Scripture, the decisive authority and the prophethood. But if these (the so called preservers of the Book) reject these (blissful things - the Book, the authority and the prophecy, it matters little) for We have now entrusted them to a people (-the Muslims) who are not at all ungrateful for these (blessings).
English Literal
Those are, those whom We brought to (gave) them The Book and the judgment/rule and the prophethood, so86if those disbelieve with it, so We had entrusted/empowered/appointed a keeper with it, a nation they are not with it disbelieving.

These are the ones whom We gave the Book and the wisdom and the Prophethood; so if these people do not believe in it, We have then kept ready for it a nation who do not reject (the truth).

It is to these We gave the Book and the Judgment and Prophethood. But if they disbelieve therein, then, indeed, We shall entrust it to a people who will not disbelieve. (See Matthew 8:11-12, Galatians 3:7-16)

They are those whom We gave the Book, Al-Hukm (understanding of the religious laws), and Prophethood. But if these disbelieve therein (the Book, Al-Hukm and Prophethood), then, indeed We have entrusted it to a people (such as the Companions of Prophet Muhammad SAW) who are not disbelievers therein.

This is Allah’s guidance wherewith He guides whom He pleases of His servants. And if they had associated others (with Him), all that they did would have been vain.

They are those whom We gave the Book, Al-Hukm, and prophethood. But if they disbelieve therein, then, indeed We have entrusted it to a people who are not disbelievers therein.

Those are the ones to whom We gave the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood. If these people [the Makkans] reject it, We shall entrust it to a people who will never refuse to acknowledge it.

Those are they to whom We gave the Book, and wisdom, and prophethood. If these reject them, We have entrusted them to others who do not reject them.
Tafsir jalalayn
They are the ones to whom We gave the Scripture, meaning the Books [of God], judgement, wisdom, and prophethood; so if these, people of Mecca, disbelieve therein, that is, in these three, then indeed We have entrusted it to, We have set aside for it, a people who do not disbelieve in it, namely, the Emigrants (Muhjirn) and the Helpers (Ansr).
Tafseer Ibn Kathir
أُوْلَـيِكَ الَّذِينَ اتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحُكْمَ وَالنُّبُوَّةَ
They are those whom We gave the Book, Al-Hukm, and Prophethood.
We bestowed these bounties on them, as a mercy for the servants, and out of our kindness for creation.
فَإِن يَكْفُرْ بِهَا
But if they disbelieve therein...,
in the Prophethood, or the three things; the Book, the Hukm and the Prophethood,
هَـوُلاء
They...,
According to Ibn Abbas, Sa`id bin Al-Musayyib, Ad-Dahhak, Qatadah, As-Suddi, and others,
refers to the people of Makkah.
فَقَدْ وَكَّلْنَا بِهَا قَوْمًا لَّيْسُواْ بِهَا بِكَافِرِينَ
then, indeed We have entrusted it to a people who are not disbelievers therein.
This Ayah means, if the Quraysh and the rest of the people of the earth - Arabs and non-Arabs, illiterate and the People of the Scripture - disbelieve in these bounties, then We have entrusted them to another people, the Muhajirun and Ansar, and those who follow their lead until the Day of Resurrection,
لَّيْسُواْ بِهَا بِكَافِرِينَ
(who are not disbelievers therein).
They will not deny any of these favors, not even one letter. Rather, they will believe in them totally, even the parts that are not so clear to some of them.
We ask Allah to make us among them by His favor, generosity and kindness.
Addressing His servant and Messenger, Muhammad, Allah said
