Al-Qur'an Surah Al-An'am Verse 77

Al-An'am [6]: 77 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

فَلَمَّا رَاَ الْقَمَرَ بَازِغًا قَالَ هٰذَا رَبِّيْ ۚفَلَمَّآ اَفَلَ قَالَ لَىِٕنْ لَّمْ يَهْدِنِيْ رَبِّيْ لَاَكُوْنَنَّ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الضَّاۤلِّيْنَ (الأنعام : ٦)

I will surely be

ٱلْقَوْمِ
the people
l-ḍālīna
ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
who went astray"

Transliteration:

Falammmaa ra al qamara baazighan qaala haazaa Rabbee falammmmaaa afala qaala la'il lam yahdinee Rabbee la akoonanna minal qawmid daaalleen (QS. al-ʾAnʿām:77)

English / Sahih Translation:

And when he saw the moon rising, he said, "This is my lord." But when it set, he said, "Unless my Lord guides me, I will surely be among the people gone astray." (QS. Al-An'am, ayah 77)

Later, when he saw the moon rising, he said, “This is my Lord.” But, when it vanished, he said, “Had my Lord not guided me, I would have been among those gone astray.”

Then when he saw the moon shining, he said, “(You proclaim that) this is my Lord?”; then when it set, he said, “If my Lord had not guided me*, I too would be one of these astray people.” (* Prophet Ibrahim was rightly guided before this event).

Then, when he saw the moon rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord!’ But when it set, he said, ‘Had my Lord not guided me, I would surely have been among the astray lot.’

And when (on another night), he beheld the full moon rising in splendor, he said: "This is my Lord, (is it)!" But when it set, he said: "Unless my Lord guided me, I would surely be among the people gone astray."

Then when he saw the moon rise with spreading light he said (to the people), `Is this my Lord (as you assert)?´ But when it set he said, `Had my Lord not guided me aright I would have, invariably, been of the people who have gone astray.´

English Literal

So when he saw the moon, rising/emerging, he said: "That (is) my lord, so when it set/darkened, he said: "If (E) my lord does not guide me, I will be (E) from the nation the misguided."

Then when he saw the moon shining, he said, “(You proclaim that) this is my Lord?”; then when it set, he said, “If my Lord had not guided me *, I too would be one of these astray people.” (* Prophet Ibrahim was rightly guided before this event).

Tafsir jalalayn

And when he saw the moon rising, appearing, he said, to them; `This is my Lord.' But when it set he said, `Unless my Lord guides me, [unless] He establishes me within [true] guidance, I shall surely become one of the folk who are astray' -- an intimation to his people that they are astray, but still this had no effect on them.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

When he saw the moon rising up, he said;"This is my lord." But when it set, he said;"Unless my Lord guides me, I shall surely be among the misguided people.
