Al-Qur'an Surah Al-An'am Verse 69

Al-An'am [6]: 69 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

وَمَا عَلَى الَّذِيْنَ يَتَّقُوْنَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِمْ مِّنْ شَيْءٍ وَّلٰكِنْ ذِكْرٰى لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُوْنَ (الأنعام : ٦)

Transliteration:

Wa maa 'alal lazeena yattaqoona min hisaabihim min shai'inw wa laakin zikraa la'allahum yattaqoon (QS. al-ʾAnʿām:69)

English / Sahih Translation:

And those who fear Allah are not held accountable for them [i.e., the disbelievers] at all, but [only for] a reminder – that perhaps they will fear Him. (QS. Al-An'am, ayah 69)

Mufti Taqi Usmani

Those who fear Allah are not responsible for any (evil) act in the account of these (infidels), except for advising them, so that they may be careful.

Those mindful ˹of Allah˺ will not be accountable for those ˹who ridicule it˺ whatsoever—their duty is to advise, so perhaps the ridiculers will abstain.

Those who fear Allah are in no way accountable for them; their duty is only to remind, so that they may abstain [from mockery].

And naught on their account shall be on those who fear but admonition that haply they also may become God-fearing.

On their account no responsibility falls on the righteous, but (their duty) is to remind them, that they may (learn to) fear Allah.

For those who are God-fearing are by no means accountable for the others except that it is their duty to adinonish them; maybe then, they will shun evil.

As for the heedful and devout, they are not accountable for them, but should give advice: They may haply come to fear God.

And the pious are not accountable for them in the least, apart from the giving of advice so that they may avoid.

Those who are Godwary are in no way accountable for them, but this is merely for admonition’s sake, so that they may beware.

Those who keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and piety are not accountable for them in anything. But (what rests with them is) to remind and thereby admonish them so that they may fear (the evil of what they do) and avoid it.

Amatul Rahman Omar

Those who guard against evil are not in the least accountable for these (evil doers). They are only to admonish (them) so that they may too guard against evil.

English Literal

And there is not from a thing on those who fear and obey (God) from their account/calculation (those who fear and obey God need not worry about their account), and but (it is) a remembrance/reminder, maybe they fear and obey.

Faridul Haque

And the pious are not accountable for them in the least, apart from the giving of advice so that they may avoid.

Leave alone (forsake, abandon) those who have taken their religion for a play (pastime) and a sport (jest, amusement), whom the life of the world has deceived, and remind them hereby lest a soul be destroyed by what it has earned. It has, beside Allah, no patron or intercessor; and though it should offer every compensation (or ransom) it will not be accepted. Those are they who perish by their own deserts. For them is (the similitude of) a drink of boiling water, and grievous woe because they persisted in their disbelief.

Those who fear Allah, keep their duty to Him and avoid evil are not responsible for them (the disbelievers) in any case, but (their duty) is to remind them, that they may avoid that (mockery at the Quran). [The order of this Verse was cancelled (abrogated) by the Verse 4:140].

And when thou seest those who talk nonsense about Our messages, withdraw from them until they enter into some other discourse. And if the devil cause thee to forget, then sit not after recollection with the unjust people.

And nought of the reckoning of their (deeds) shall be against those who guard (against evil), but (theirs) is only to remind, haply they may guard.

Those who are cautious are not accountable for them in anything, but it is a reminder in order that they be cautious.

There is no responsibility for them upon those who have Taqwa, but (their duty) is to remind them, that they may (attain) Taqwa.

The God-fearing are not in any way held accountable for the wrongdoers; their only duty is to remind them, so that they may fear God.

The righteous are in no way accountable for them; it is only a reminder, that they may be careful.

Tafsir jalalayn

The Muslims then said, `If we get up [and leave] every time they delve [into the matter of the Qur'n], we would never be able to sit in the Mosque or perform circumambulations. Therefore, the following was revealed; Those who fear God, are not accountable for them, [for] those who discourse [in mockery], in anything (min shay'in; min is extra), if they should sit with them; but it is the reminder, that they are accountable for; [a reminder given] to make them remember and to admonish them, so that perhaps they will be wary, of discoursing thus.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

وَمَا عَلَى الَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِم مِّن شَيْءٍ

There is no responsibility for them upon those who have Taqwa,

means, when the believers avoid sitting with wrongdoers in this case, they will be innocent of them and they will have saved themselves from their sin.

Allah's statement,

وَلَـكِن ذِكْرَى لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ



but (their duty) is to remind them, that they may avoid that.

means, We commanded you to ignore and avoid them, so that they become aware of the error they are indulging in, that they may avoid this behavior and never repeat it again
