Al-Qur'an Surah Al-An'am Verse 5

Al-An'am [6]: 5 ~ English Qur'an Word By Word and Multi Tafseer

فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوْا بِالْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَاۤءَهُمْۗ فَسَوْفَ يَأْتِيْهِمْ اَنْۢبـٰۤؤُا مَا كَانُوْا بِهٖ يَسْتَهْزِءُوْنَ (الأنعام : ٦)

faqad
فَقَدْ
Then indeed
kadhabū
كَذَّبُوا۟
they denied
bil-ḥaqi
بِٱلْحَقِّ
the truth
lammā
لَمَّا
when
jāahum
جَآءَهُمْۖ
it came to them
fasawfa
فَسَوْفَ
but soon
yatīhim
يَأْتِيهِمْ
will come to them

أَنۢبَٰٓؤُا۟
news

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
mock

Transliteration:

Faqad kazzaboo bilhaqqi lammaa jaaa'ahum fasawfa yaateehim ambaaa'u maa kaanoo bihee yastahzi'oon (QS. al-ʾAnʿām:5)

English / Sahih Translation:

For they had denied the truth when it came to them, but there is going to reach them the news of what they used to ridicule. (QS. Al-An'am, ayah 5)

And so they willfully deny the truth (embodied by the Qur’an) when it has come to them (and mock the truths, warnings, and especially the tidings of the Resurrection). Even so, they will come to understand what it was they were mocking.

So they have already cried lies to this perfect truth when it came to them, but soon there shall come to them the news of ( the fulfillment of the prophecies) that they have been taking very lightly.

English Literal

So they had denied/lied with the truth when it came to them, so information/news (of) what they were with it mocking/making fun of will come to them.

They denied the truth, the Qur'n, when it came to them, but there shall come to them the news, the consequences, of what they were mocking.

Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Indeed, they rejected the truth when it came to them, but there will come to them the news of that which they used to mock at.

This Ayah contains a warning and a stern threat for the disbelievers' rejection of the truth, stating that the disbelievers will surely know the truth of what they used to deny and taste the evil end of their behavior.

Allah advises and warns the disbelievers, that they should avoid the torments and afflictions of this life, similar to what befell their likes from previous nations, who were stronger, wealthier, had more offspring, and were more exploitive on the earth.
